A business strategy talk on why hourly rates miss the point. The speaker argues that what matters is the time and operational burden a solution removes, not what you charge per hour.
Nobody cares what your retainers are. Literally no business cares what your retainers are. Your businesses care about what you cost the business. If you are solving a huge solution that saves the business hundreds and hundreds of hours, you can charge whatever retainer equates to the amount of time and the output that you're saving them. Too many people get caught up on this hourly rate thing or about how much your time is worth. What you need to focus on most is how can you save that business the most time. What automations are going to allow the business to be more fluid and more successful and you sell them that, not the retainer.
