This is a YouTube video titled "Stop Overcomplicating APIs ๐" created in September 2025. The content is a monologue or talk explaining the concept of APIs using a simple analogy of a waiter taking and delivering an order, aiming to clarify common misunderstandings and encourage safe API usage. There is only one speaker, and no conversation involving Michael Elliott.
You hear API all the time, but what is it? One second. Hello? Hi. Yeah, of course I know what APIs are. What do you mean? What does it stand for? I don't know. Sorry, I've got bad signal. Bye. Yeah, everybody has this issue when it comes to APIs, right? They fall into a category where you're in a position of overcomplicating what an API is. An API effectively is you asking a waiter, pointing at him, saying, hey, I want this burger on this menu. And the waiter say, no problem, Mike, going away, and then brings back that burger. Well, the burger was the API request that we made, what we selected. Always use APIs carefully and safely. Make sure that you don't provide them to anybody, because they can be used. API implementation is simple. The analogy to understand it is it's like a waiter. You give it an instruction, you ask it nicely to give you some information, give you something, and it will come back and it will bring it. Don't overcomplicate it. Seriously. It's a common pitfall of beginners, and it's just something that you don't need to worry about.
