The AI Gold Rush Is Fool's Gold? (How To Make Money Using AI in 2026)

Michael Elliott argues AI amplifies what you already do well but can't replace sales psychology, strategic thinking, or execution. Direct-response marketing, referral systems, and search channels still outperform AI-generated volume when paired with fundamentals.

Everybody is treating AI like it's a cheat code to wealth, and I've had enough of it, because it is not. If your offer is garbage, AI just helps scale garbage faster. If your strategy is broken, AI gives you a broken strategy in 47 languages. Half of you probably buy courses from people that have basic NAM workflows and then just tell you the basics of business, right? Stuff that you should know. Lead generation, positioning, who you should be going after. Your target demographic. The AI gold rush. For most people, it's fool's gold. Let me show you exactly why and what actually matters. Listen, I get it. AI is a massive opportunity. But here's what nobody's saying out loud. The people getting rich off of AI aren't the ones using ChatGPT to write blog posts or make faceless YouTube channels in most cases anyway. They're the ones that already understood marketing, sales, psychology and leverage. And they're using AI to amplify what was already working. Everybody else, they're just louder versions of broke. I'm going to walk you through the three skills that AI cannot replace. The timeless strategies that are still printing money while everyone else chases prompts, and the uncomfortable truth about why AI is in for most users getting zero results. But first, let's start with the fantasy that keeps people stuck. Let's start with what no AI guru wants to admit. AI is not a shortcut. It's a spotlight filled with opportunity. Yes, but if your foundation is garbage, all AI does is expose that faster and at scale. You listen to me. People are obsessed with prompts. They're obsessed with ChatGPT hacks, with AI tools that they don't understand. The new version of X that they think is going to turn them into millionaires. But what's the actual result? A flood of faceless YouTubers with robotic voices that nobody watches 99% of the time? Or 100,000 word ebooks generated in three minutes that nobody reads? AI generated offers. Solving problems that don't exist is not a good business model. Here's the truth. If your message is weak, your strategy is broken, or your offer sucks, or all of them together, AI won't save you. It'll just make you louder in the wrong direction. Do you know what's worse though, than having a bad product? It's having a bad product with a million dollar marketing budget. And I see it every day handling 100 million ad spend. From a Google Ads perspective, I see it every single day. That's what it's doing for people right now. It's giving Them unlimited content output for ideas that were never validated in the first place. The uncomfortable question if you removed all AI tools from your business today, would your offer still sell? If the answer is no, you don't have an AI problem, you have a fundamental problem. If AI isn't the answer, what actually is? Let's talk about the three skills that still crush with AI in the real world. Here's what AI still can't do and probably won't do for a very long time, if ever. Skill number one sales psychology. Understanding real human hesitation. Handling objections. Building trust. AI can script it. I'm a massive advocate of this, of lead handling and nurturing. But it can't feel it. You can't outsource emotional intelligence. You cannot automate reading a room. You can't prompt engineer your way into knowing when someone's on the fence versus where they're mentally checked out. That's why the best salespeople will always outperform your the best chatbots. Because selling isn't about information, it's about transformation. So stop trying to sell sales team replacements and start qualifying leads for businesses so then their sales reps can go on and do their job. Skill number two, strategic thinking. AI gives outputs. It doesn't make judgment calls based on intuition, timing, business context, et cetera. It doesn't know when to pivot. It doesn't know when to double down. It doesn't know when the market's about to shift or when a competitor just made a huge fatal error that you can take advantage of. That's why a marketer who understands frameworks that who knows how to think in systems will always outmaneuver someone who's just really good at prompt writing. And skill number three is the execution grid. AI doesn't wake up at 6am with a crying baby and understand how to launch a business from your exact individual position right now. Nor does it give you any context of how to take you to the next step. It doesn't handle rejection. It doesn't deal with imposter syndrome. It doesn't push through the messy middle when the dopamine's gone and you're three months into something that hasn't paid off yet, does it? You do. That's the edge. Real power comes from combining timeless skills with AI, not trying to replace your brain with a robot. But here's the kicker. While everyone's chasing the future, the past is printing money today. And let me show you. Do you want to see what's outpacing AI tools right now? It's the stuff your granddad would have built a business with Direct response marketing. It's been around since the 1920s and it still drives conversions better than any AI content ever possibly could. Why? Because it's built on human psychology, not algorithms. Long form sales letters, email sequences that build up trust over time. SMS marketing, which is obviously relatively new. Frameworks like ADA Attention, Interest, Desire Action or pass Problem Agitate solution. Those are traditional marketing strategies that have converted billions of dollars across a whole century. AI can help you execute that faster. That's the key. Get them to your inquiry faster and boost sales numbers stupendously. But if you don't understand why they work, your AI generated copy is just noise that goes straight in the bin. Strategy 2 the referral system Businesses are built on word of mouth. In some, trust and community are exploding while others are fighting for TikTok views and trying to crack the algorithm. People still buy from people they trust, believe it or not. They still value recommendations from friends, colleagues and peers over any ad. AI can't manufacture trust. You build it. One conversation, one result, one referral at a time. I'm not a builder because I don't know how to go and build myself a house extension. It doesn't matter how many times I ask ChatGPT, do you go outside now, give it a try and see how it goes. Strategy number three search based SEO, PPC offers, etc. Boring and old school. Maybe Profitable? Absolutely. I personally love it. It's my favorite thing on Planet Earth. Agencies focused on Google Ads, SEO and B2B related services are quietly scaling past seven figures while 19 year olds are trying to build their 19th AI course this week. Wondering why nobody's buying. Because people with money problems are searching for solutions. They're willing to pay for someone who can deliver results, but not someone who can just generate content. Meanwhile, the AI crowd is focused on volume. Views follow as content output and here's the truth. Volume without value is spam. I don't want to see it. Neither do they. A personal brand is the most powerful thing that you can have and it's why I started this YouTube channel. So please like and subscribe because I do share a lot of information on this channel. I have a lot of experience in public, right? I've earned half a million in public on upwork. But I have a vision and integrity that makes decisions. I'm not going from 0 to 100, I'm going from 80 to 180. AI cannot buy that intuition and experience. Let me hit you with the truth bomb that people can't handle. If you've been sucked into the AI hype, I want you to drop a comment below and be honest. What's the one tool or strategy that you thought would change everything but didn't? And if you're somebody building with timeless strategy, if you're focused on fundamentals, not fads, call it out in the comments. We need more creators. Keeping it real because I'm not trying to sell you anything here, right? Most people are. Because here's what I'm noticing. The people who are actually winning aren't the loudest. They're the ones doing the boring compound work. Okay, AI isn't the enemy. That's not what this video is about. But it's not the savior either. The truth Most of you don't need more tools. You need more execution, more boring strategy, more patience, more fundamentals. You don't need another prompt library. You need to understand why your offer isn't converting. AI isn't the reason for that. You don't need another AI assistant. You need to learn to sell. AI is a force multiplier. But if you are multiplying zero, guess what you get? Zero. If you're still watching, you're probably someone who knows that real growth doesn't come from the newest toy. It comes from mastering the old rules better than anybody else and implementing AI. When you combine those old rules with the new tools, that's when you become dangerous. And that's when you stop chasing and start building.
