Foreign. Welcome to Origins, the podcast that dives deep into the business of venture capital, where we learn how the people behind the capital, both GPs and LPs, make decisions. I'm Nick Charles, GP at Asylum Ventures, a newly launched early stage venture firm celebrating the creative act of building startups.
And I'm Beezer Clarkson, your LP co host and partner at Sapphire Partners, the LP arm of Sapphire Ventures, where we invest in early stage venture capital managers, both emerging and established franchise VCs. We're excited for you to join us for a brand new season of Origins.
I believe the faster you can make decisions as a founder, the better versus as a as an investor. Like that's a horrible orientation. You want to be making fewer better decisions. We talked to prominent GP and LP industry leaders to share insights on what it takes to win in venture how LPs choose which funds to invest in, how VCs build their firms, the do's and don'ts of fundraising, and the latest venture trends shaping the investment ecosystem. If you look at kind of times where you've had technology inflection points coupled with valuation corrections, at least historically those have been very interesting times for new company formation and ultimately been great vintages of venture capital years.
We dig into the highly competitive journey one must take to go from emerging manager to an established manager where the overall odds are just 17% and even more rare. Becoming a franchise VC odds we estimate at being 1% or even less. You're not going to create a franchise without great investment returns. It's just not going to happen. It just takes years before you actually can look at the numbers and say they mean much.
So join us as we speak with some of the brightest minds from both the LP and VC world to share their highly sought after perspectives.
