Michael Schneider founded Pilots to the Rescue after a 2015 mission saved ten abandoned puppies from North Carolina. His nonprofit uses small aircraft to transport animals within 24 hours to adoption-ready homes, moving as many as sixteen animals per flight from overcrowded shelters where many face euthanasia.

Oh, it's beautiful today. I absolutely love to fly. It's my favorite thing to do.

My name is Michael. I'm the founder of Pilots to the Rescue. The first rescue that I did was back in 2015. We picked up 10 puppies from North Carolina. Someone took these puppies and threw them on the side of the ditch, and we got to rescue those puppies. We brought them to Connecticut, and that was our first rescue.

After I rescued those puppies, I realized that there's such a need for rescuing animals, and you have to do them sometimes in as little as 24 hours. A light bulb went off in my head, and I combined my love of aviation and rescuing animals.
Today we're going to be rescuing 16 animals, 12 puppies, 4 dogs.
North Carolina has a big overcrowded shelter where almost all the rescues that we do on the East Coast originate in North Carolina. The service that we provided them was a real benefit because they're getting 25, 50 dogs a day and they don't know what to do with them. And the only choice that they have if you don't get them out is they unfortunately have to euthanize them. 3025, 976 whiskey Bravo. To do this work because we can rescue animals in a short period of time, cover more ground, and make it possible for families to adopt them. If it was up to me, I would do this every day.
Yes, Mama, I know. I take care of you. I take care of you.
I'm grateful for the work that the people do in the refining industry. The essential resource that we need to make this plane fly is fuel. I do this work because it's rewarding to fly and I love animals, but there's absolutely no substitute for fuel, and I needed to do this mission.
