Julie founded Animal Lighthouse Rescue twelve years ago after seeing Puerto Rico's stray dog crisis. She's saved thousands of dogs since. Now Michael Schneider and Ashley Esseltine are heading to South Carolina to pick up eight dogs and nine cats for the rescue.
I'm Julie. I am the founder of Animal Lighthouse Rescue. I got involved around 10, 12 years ago. I went down to Puerto Rico, actually, when I saw all the stray dogs. Literally, anywhere you go in Puerto Rico, you'll see tons and tons and tons of dogs, and they're just like so needy for affection. And love and food, of course. They're suffering. So I got to witness that firsthand, and I was just like, um, I want to help. So yeah, just more and more people started helping me, and it just grew and grew and grew. We've saved thousands of dogs, and it's just an amazing organization that we could save all these little helpless lives.
Michael Schneider here, Top Dog Pilots to Rescue. I'm here with Ashley Esseltine. And we're headed down to Andrews, South Carolina. We're picking up, I believe it's 8 dogs and 7 cats. Is that right, Julie?
9 cats.
9 cats. I also have Julie back here.
Hello.
My first dog that I fostered was with Animal Lighthouse, and I failed miserably and I kept him. So I got a dog a few months later and from the same shelter that we're going to get the dogs from and the cats in South Carolina today. All very connected.
Mission accomplished!
I am so glad I did this. I've never done anything like it. I guess it was a dream I didn't know that I had.
