Live Rescue: 13 puppies from NC arrive safely at an airport in NJ with Pilots To The Rescue

In a live Facebook/YouTube broadcast on May 11, 2021, Michael Schneider of Pilots to Rescue and co‑pilot Daniel documented the rescue and transport of 14 dogs from Southern Pines, North Carolina, to the foster‑based network A New Chance Animal Rescue in Westchester County, New York. The stream featured real‑time interaction with viewers, introductions of the dogs, and explanations of the logistical challenges of loading the aircraft – described as a "game of Tetris" – including the use of a ramp and crate management. The team highlighted the partnership with A New Chance, the role of veterinary screening in Southern Pines, and the broader rescue network that includes past collaborations with the Bissell Pet Foundation and upcoming rescues with the Abyssal Pet Foundation. Influencer Chelsea (model) joined to promote adoption via her Instagram handle @chelseakipnis.model, illustrating the use of social media influencers to raise awareness. Donation information was repeatedly shared (pilotsarescue.org, 931 Manhattan Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11222) and the nonprofit status (501(c)(3)) was emphasized. The broadcast concluded with plans for a future rescue to Knoxville, Tennessee, and thanks to viewers and volunteers.

Hey guys, Michael Schneider here, Pilots to Rescue. Rescued 14 dogs today from Southern Pines, North Carolina. It's our second of three rescues this week. If you joined us last Thursday, we went down to Knoxville, Tennessee and rescued 13 dogs with Bissell Pet Foundation. Today we're working with A New Chance Animal Rescue. It's a partner we work with often out of Westchester County, New York. They're a foster network. And we had about a 6-hour round-trip flight today.
And I'm going to show you some of the dogs that we captured.
Show you what's going on. Tammy, Lewis, thanks. Thanks for coming. Tammy, welcome back. So here we go.
I don't know, do they actually— the dogs have to stay apart?
Hi, Jeanette. Hi, Vanya. Thanks for joining. Got a little chichi here. We got more chichis here. We got another chichi here. This guy is really excited. Look at him. Look at this guy go. Hi, Terry. Hi, Vanya. Hi, Sherry. This guy, he's ready to go. Yeah, you had a good flight? What do you want to tell the viewers on Facebook? Yeah? You excited? You probably want to come out of this crate. Hey, Roger. Hi, Sandra. Thanks, everybody, for joining. Joanne, welcome. Hi, Michelle. Hi, Vicki. This guy wants to get out. Okay, okay, we'll get you out. We'll get you out. Thanks, Sandra. Thanks, Ruth. Hi, Cindy. Hi Karen, thank you Sarah. Hi Mary Beth, hi Daniel. Hey Dawn, you're welcome. Hi Lit, got a shepherd mix here. Hey, Sandra. You're so calm. You're so calm. Oh, okay, you got a little feisty. Hi, Roger. Hey, Phoebe. Welcome, Phoebe. It was great to see you, Phoebe, in Kingston. Hi, Clement. Hi, Michelle. All right, all right.
So once again, guys, if you're just joining us, we rescued 14 dogs today from Southern Pines, North Carolina, for A New Chance Animal Rescue. They're a foster-based network in Westchester County, New York. We work with them often, and this is our second rescue this week. We have a third one on Tuesday with Bissell Pet Foundation, and today we did 14 dogs. Last week we did 13. Thanks, Vicki. Uh, I'm not sure, Karen. The Aussie— is this an Aussie?
I think it might be. Hi, Judy. Hi, Jeanette.
Hey, Salvatore.
Hey, Daniel.
Here's Daniel, our co-pilot. Tell everybody what we did today, how it went.
Honestly, one of the more logistically simple ones. We got 14 dogs, came up here, we've met with the volunteers. They were already here when we got here. They're all either relieving themselves or getting ready to get in the crate. So great day otherwise, nothing, nothing crazy like last time we did one.
Yeah, but what happened when we got there? We had an unexpected passenger.
We did. Oh, that's right, we did go down thinking we're getting 13 dogs. We came to find out that there was a giant husky that apparently had surgery, stitches or something. So we had to sort of refigure out our logistics, but we're just happy we got over here.
We took them an extra pass for every day. Yeah, great.
Yeah, thank you.
Awesome.
Thank you.
There's a Schnauzer. I would adopt this guy if I didn't already have one.
You're welcome, Kim.
Hi, Isabelle. Hi, Kelly. This guy is very vocal down here and very excited.
Okay.
All right. Very excited. Okay, okay, calm down. Simmer down, simmer down, simmer down. I'm not sure what this guy's doing with his leg. I hope he's okay.
I'm only kidding.
This guy, see what he's doing with his leg? He's kind of— his leg is up in the air. Hey, maybe he's just a little nervous, you know. Yeah, you're welcome, Kim.
Look at this guy down here.
Thanks, Debbie. We will, we'll keep doing it. This guy, I know, this guy is ready.
They're ready to go.
Yeah, he's really excited.
He is so So excited to get out of here.
Yeah, you want to take them out? You got a slip leash?
You can— we can try.
Yeah, um, I, I think if this guy doesn't come out, he's going to explode. Hi Priscilla, Debbie, we'll keep going.
Hi Michelle, do you want to go on camera to our Facebook Live and talk a little bit about yourself and what you're doing? Say who you are and what you do.
Hi, I'm Chelsea. So I'm a model and I'm here with the dogs to help them get a forever home. This is Mala and she's the happiest dog ever. I love her.
So how do people find you online?
Um, so—
I think you need to adopt this dog.
You can see my work on my page on Instagram or Facebook, or you probably can even see it in some stores.
What's your Instagram handle?
My Instagram handle is @chelseakipnis.model.
All right, and what kind of work do you do? What kind of brands?
I'll do print work for companies like Under Armour or Target or the tailor.
That's great. Thanks for coming out to support our organization today. Everybody tells you they love your hair, I'm sure.
Thank you.
Yes, great. And Nala is really, uh, excited.
Beautiful dog. I think this dog has multicolor eyes, right? If I can get a picture. She's just—
hi!
Oh, there we go.
Beautiful dog. Hey, you're messing with my phone. Oh, look at those eyes! Look at those eyes!
Gorgeous.
Yeah, okay, very excited, very excited dog, beautiful dog. So I believe most of these dogs are owner surrender, uh, strays. Um, they are picked up in Southern Pines, Moore County in North Carolina, and they're all vetted. Uh, there's a veterinarian center there, um, that helps out A New Chance Animal Rescue and vets them. And we've been doing— we've had this relationship with A New Chance for many years, so it's our bread and butter. We go from New Jersey to North Carolina all the time. Oh, Deborah, you couldn't hear what she said. Can you guys hear me? Give me, give me a sign if you can hear me or not. Well, she came out to support our cause, and she's gonna be doing some social posting on her Instagram and Facebook. And, you know, we've been using influencers more to get the message out about our work. So, okay, thanks, Michelle, for letting me know. Okay, good. Thanks, Kelly. If you guys have any questions—
oh, you can hear me but not others talk. Okay, I get it. Yeah, I probably need some kind of microphone for that. Yeah, but I'm glad you can hear me at least.
She's a model.
She models in print for— she mentioned Under Armour, and she came here with her whole family. And what she does is she takes— these influencers take pictures with the dogs and they do social media, whether it's Instagram or Facebook, and it helps create awareness about rescuing animals and the work that we do. The dogs, Judy, are going to A New Chance Animal Rescue.
It's a foster-based network in Westchester County. You can go to— you can Google A New Chance Animal Rescue. They're also on Facebook. I think I tagged him. Thanks, Kim, that's very nice of you to donate. Every little bit helps. So we managed to fit all these dogs in our— in this plane. This is our workhorse, and it doesn't look that big, but it's managed to fit all these crates in. Daniel, what is it like trying to fit all these dogs into the plane? What do we— what do we compare it to all the time?
Uh, it's the game of Tetris, we call it. It. Um, because we only have so much information about, you know, what dogs we're getting, and we only have a certain amount of crates. So every time we do it, it's trying to figure out what dogs are going to go in what crates. We try to find out which ones we can combine in others, but every time it's a— it's an absolute game of Tetris to try and figure out how we're going to get all these in there. But yeah, somehow we figured out— I think we're getting better as we go. Uh, so it's fun, it's a fun time every time.
Yeah. Is that the one that was going crazy? I think Kim, this is the little one that needs to come out. He or she is Yeah, since we got her out, I think, yeah, being in there. Oh, Lori, our address to donate is 931 Manhattan Avenue, Suite Number 3, Brooklyn, New York 11222. It's also on our website, pilots-to-the-rescue.org, all spelled out, pilots-to-the-rescue.org. Thank you. And, uh, I did— it does say raising money for Pilots to the Rescue if you wanted to donate through the Facebook link. Hopefully that came through. And there should be also a donate— a way to donate through our Facebook page. Hi, Millie! Oh, thanks, Brielle! I know that's Brielle who, uh, just posted our address. She read my mind. Thanks, Judy! Appreciate it. Every little bit helps. We love doing this work. Oh, I think this dog's much better than now that it's out of the crate.
It just didn't want to be in there anymore.
No.
Yeah.
Anyone else you want to take a look at?
Yeah, do you want to sit inside the plane?
Sure.
All right, you want to hold the dog or you want to just— I don't know, I'll show you how to get inside the plane. And, uh, maybe— who's taking pictures, your mom? Okay, so maybe you want to hand the dog off while she sits on plane, or you want to hold the dog in your lap? It's just the paws are wet, so I don't know how you feel about that. You could hold a dog in your lap in the plane. That'd be a cute picture.
All right, so why don't you get in the plane first?
Thanks, Mila. Hi, Heather. Thanks for joining us, Heather. My cousin just came online. Hi, Heather. We're gonna show her how to get in the plane. The way you get in the plane is there's a step here and you can step anywhere that is black and there's a handle here. So I'll show you guys inside the plane. I guess you're curious what it looks like in here.
So here's inside the plane. Uh, we actually watch movies. That iPad right there is where we put an iPad there and we watch movies. So It's a lot of fun. It makes the time go by faster. You're welcome, Lori.
Hi, Heather.
Hi, Michelle.
So I'll show you the back of the plane. This is where you put everything. Oh, Deborah, they're getting time out of the crates. Hi, Rebecca. Thanks for joining us again. Rebecca's from the Wolf Conservation Center. We've done 3 wolf rescues with them and hope to do more. Hi, Lori. Okay, enough of the plane. They're getting walked. All the dogs are getting walked. Thanks, Deborah. Judy, we have rescued dogs from Texas before. I wouldn't fly this plane all the way to Texas, but we've worked with relays with other pilots. Heather, come on, you've jumped out of airplanes before. Hi, Ellis. Hi, Kelly. Here's a nice Schnauzer.
Nice Schnauzer to rescue. He's very polite.
Hi.
Hi.
Okay, we'll get you out. We'll get you out soon. Oh, Heather, you could still do it. You're welcome to come fly with me anytime. Yeah, you could start taking the dogs out now. This one has beautiful colors.
Look at the colors on this one. That's great markings.
You do?
You do?
That'd be great.
Hi, Debbie. Yeah, beautiful colors. Maybe you need to get some pictures of this one. The, the redheads with, uh, with the redhead.
Yeah, seriously, we don't often see that.
Beautiful markings.
Yeah, you're welcome, Debbie.
Hi, uh, Deborah. Yeah, we actually— we are, we're doing a rescue to Michigan.
Um, we couldn't connect with other pilots in Chicago.
Hi, Nancy. Hi, Priscilla. Daniel's just cleaning up this dog.
Yeah, beautiful dog.
Looks like it has an old soul.
Very, uh, very stoic.
Yeah, yeah, he or she has seen some things, right?
You good?
Oh, a little hairball.
Furball.
All right, um, I think I'm gonna try the—
you want the ramp?
We could try.
Yeah, here, I'll hold the dog.
Grab the ramp.
The ramp's right in the corner of the hangar. You see it there? Daniel's gonna grab the ramp, makes things a little bit easier.
Hi Kathleen!
Hi Sarah! Yes, Karen, he is handsome. I think it's a he. Here's a ramp, makes things a lot easier. Walk the doggies up into the Did you want pictures with this one?
Yeah.
Oh, okay, not yet then.
Little one is shivering really bad.
Oh, oh, oh, the Yorkie!
The Yorkie's shivering. Oh yeah, we do get, uh, full breed rescues. We have a Yorkie and a Schnauzer today.
Thank you, Heather.
I want her.
Yeah, Deborah, I think, I think, uh, this one is a Collie Aussie. A kalyasi, probably.
Yeah. Um, let's put the, um, Yorkie away. You want to put her— what's your face? This one?
Yeah, right here. This one on top.
Yeah, there you go.
You want to put her in there? No, we don't need any escape artists in the, uh, airport. But it's a slip collar, just, um, bring it up, bring that through.
Bring the black.
Yeah, yeah, they're coming through.
Okay, so you want me to— I can put this one in a crate.
Yeah, go for it. Yeah, the ramp helps. Ramp helps. You may need to pick one up for your business.
Yeah.
Is there anything you want to say about A New Chance Animal Rescue?
Oh, they're amazing. They're so great because it's foster-based, so when you are going to adopt a dog, you really can get a lot of information about the dog. And most of our fosters are so amazing, you know, they help train the dog, and of course they figure, you know, they love the dog, and so it's awesome.
Oh, and Brielle, she's— she said Judy Pascoe Whitman is a contact. Does that sound familiar? Judy Pascoe Whitman?
Yes.
Okay, great.
Awesome.
Awesome.
Thanks, Michael Schneider.
Yeah, sure. There you go.
There you go.
Oh, you want to put her in the front seat? There's a handle on top of the crate if you want to use that, but maybe you hold it from the bottom. I don't know how secure that crate is.
It real quick if you want me to.
Whatever's easier for you.
Yeah, I don't want to push you. Okay, you want the, uh, ramp, Daniel?
You want the ramp here?
Yeah, get the ramp right here.
Never actually used the ramp from—
oh, escape dog! Escape, Otis! It's all right, we got an escape artist. Oh, look at that, she went right in the car.
Ah, up.
Yeah, all right, well, we got— we had an escape artist, but we caught her. Hi, Lori, it is a great day. Hi, Lori.
You are a yapper. You are a yapper, you know that? Okay, we'll let you out soon. Oh, this one looks sad. Look at those eyes. All right, we'll get you out of there soon. We'll get you out soon. Okay. All right. This one's just chilling out, just chilling out. Hi Deborah! Hi Lori! Hi Lori! Hi Alan!
Here's a Schnauzer.
Hey guy!
Hey, hey!
All good? Yeah, you can start unloading more. She has her own agenda.
Like, I want to go that way. She does have her own agenda.
Oh, she wants— she wants to go home.
She's done. Yeah, she's like, I need a good house.
Yeah.
I didn't get much time with you. Hi Lacey, Kansas in the house. Okay, hi Holly.
A long journey, right Daniel? Long journey. Yeah, yeah.
All right.
Hi, Michelle from Florida. Thanks, Renee. Yeah, beautiful markings on this dog.
Yeah.
They think— someone mentioned it's an Aussie Collie mix. Seems about right.
Yeah.
Hello, hello. You need some crates? Are you— you want to put— you want to put this one in that one?
All right.
Yeah, let's go for it. You want to use the ramp, make things a little easier? May not want to go up the ramp.
Good girl. What a good girl.
Yeah, you're so smart.
Want to take out the Schnauzer? All right, we'll get a slip leash for you. Hi Lauren! Hi Janie! Hi Edie! Hi Lori from Arizona! Hi Kathleen! Jason from South Dakota! All right, Lacy, welcome! We're going to take out the Schnauzer.
Yeah.
You're welcome, Janie. Hi, Lorraine. Hi, Kathleen from North Carolina. We just came from there. I don't know if Mills River is anywhere near Southern Pines, but that's where we came from. All these 14 dogs today.
Oh, thank you.
Hi, Mona from Minnesota. You're welcome. Thank you for donating, Mona. Hi, Edie. Is it a girl or a boy? This one's a boy. Uh, Janie, it's, uh, Southern Pines, Moore County, North Carolina, um, where we picked the dogs up.
And the rescue is a foster-based network called A New Chance Animal Rescue in Westchester County, New York. A New Chance Animal Rescue is where you can adopt these dogs.
Thanks, Robin.
Hi, Kathy. Hi, Rhonda. Hi, Janie.
Oh, look at that, we used the ramp. Why not? That's all right. All right, it's a cutie. He's in good shape. Yeah, well groomed. Oh, well, let's see how they do. This one's really excited. Excited. Oh wow, he's running around like crazy. Yeah, you're welcome, Deborah. Hi, Alice. Hi, Kim. Oh, okay, he's got to relieve himself. Better to do it out here than in the plane. Hi, Jason. Hi, Robin. Oh, that, that is a smelly pee.
I smelled it from all the way over here.
Yeah. Yes, Robin, we are 501 nonprofit. We are volunteer pilots. Uh, hi Kelly, we just came from North Carolina. We go down there all the time to pick up dogs. Hi Lauren, hi Gail. Robin, this is, uh, the plane we operate out of New Jersey. Robin, there should be, uh, it says raising money for Pilots to Rescue. It's, uh, pilotsarescue.org. Brielle, maybe you can post the website link. In the chat, pilotsarescue.org. Robin Nichols is looking for a donation link. You could donate through our website, pilotsarescue.org. There's a donate button. There you go. Thanks, Brielle. All right, we're gonna get you guys home soon. Don't worry, don't worry.
Sure, let me—
you know what, let me figure out which crate I'm gonna—
yeah, that's fine.
Hi, Jocelyn. All right, guys, so I'm getting ready to sign off here. I want to thank you very much for, for joining us for this Facebook Live, and, um, I'll be doing another live this Tuesday. Thank you so much for joining us. I'm signing off. Gotta try to get a good selfie with the plane. It's very sunny all of a sudden. The sun just came out.
So thank you everyone for joining. Thank you for supporting Pilots to the Rescue. Have a wonderful weekend.
