In this first‑person narrative, the speaker recounts a recent Pilots to the Rescue (PTTR) mission undertaken with their friend Melanie. The volunteers flew from New Jersey to North Carolina to collect nine at‑risk puppies, including a puppy named Astro. After loading the pups into crates and placing them in the aircraft’s rear, they returned to New Jersey, where the puppies were unloaded and briefly played with before being placed in foster homes. The account highlights the seamless combination of the volunteers’ passions for aviation and animal welfare, describes the calm in‑flight behavior of the puppies, and ends with gratitude toward PTTR for the opportunity.

Recently, my best friend Melanie and I had the amazing opportunity to assist in a Pilots to the Rescue mission. Pilots to the Rescue is an incredible organization that helps bring at-risk animals to their new homes. On this mission, we had the opportunity to combine our two passions of animals and airplanes. We flew from New Jersey to North Carolina to pick up our adorable puppy passengers for the day. After we loaded them into their comfortable crates for transport, we put them in the back of the aircraft and departed back for New Jersey. Once we got airborne, our 9 pups fell fast asleep and enjoyed the ride. Like this little guy named Astro who slept on my lap for the whole flight. Soon enough, we landed back in New Jersey where we unloaded the pups and got to play with them a bit before they went to their new foster homes. Then we loaded the airplane back into the hangar and that's all for this adventure. Thank you so much, Pilots to the Rescue, for an amazing day.
