Michael Schneider founded Pilots to Rescue to fly animals scheduled for euthanasia to shelters with better adoption odds. He calls volunteering at local shelters transformative, more valuable than donations alone.

I started Pilots to Rescue to combine my love of aviation and rescuing animals. We spread good through Pilots to Rescue by transporting animals that are facing euthanasia. So by transporting them, they avoid their fate and they have a better chance of getting adopted by a loving home. Spreading good is so important to me because it gives you a great sense of fulfillment. I didn't even know that this is what I wanted to do in my life and that it's my passion. What I'd like to share, a last final thought, is it's very easy to write a check and we need your money, that's for sure. But I would encourage all these listeners to roll up their sleeves, go to your local shelter, and ask how you can get involved and help. If animals aren't your thing, pick a cause that you feel strong about and passionate and figure out a way that you personally can get involved and make a difference and make a change. Watch what happens in your life when you do this. This is truly one of the reasons we're here on this earth.
