In this conversational segment, entrepreneur Mike Michalowicz shares his fascination with Taylor Swift’s business model and the dynamics of her fan base, the Swifties. He notes the community’s strong loyalty and occasional defensiveness, questioning how Swift balances engagement without allowing fan retaliation. Michalowicz also reveals his personal plan to attend Swift’s December concert in Vancouver with his partner Krista, describing how a connection to Vancouver’s mayor, Ken Sim—who is part of his mastermind group—provides them with a premium seat and potential networking opportunities. The discussion blends analysis of Swift’s brand strategy with personal anecdote about leveraging influential contacts for a concert experience.

I'm not a Swiftie. I'm not either. I'm an admirer in what she's accomplished. I am fascinated by the business model and how she's sparked a community around the Swifties. But also interesting, there's such a defensiveness in that community. Sometimes there can be vitriol and stuff. So that's really interesting dynamic. How does she navigate that? How does she keep her clients engaged but not from going too far, which they have had the tendency to do in certain circumstances and in retaliation and protection of her? I am going to see Taylor Swift.
You are?
Yep. In December, I'm going to go to Vancouver. Krista and I are flying out to Vancouver to see her perform.
Is this Krista's wish?
No, it's a mutual wish. I love her music and I have an opinion. I don't necessarily think she's the best music writer or the best songs in the world, but I think collectively her talent, her persona, and her music collectively is the best ever. My friend happens to be the mayor of Vancouver, and we're going to talk about in a future episode, we're going to talk about masterminding. My friend Ken Sim is his name. Ken Sim is in my mastermind, and one of his aspirations was to become mayor, and he's become mayor of a major city, Vancouver. He has the mayor's suite at the concert. He said, I can invite some friends. You got to pay your own way and tickets and stuff. But he's like, you can sit with me. You take a place. So we have an amazing seat, and some celebrities may be coming through or not. We don't know. And maybe, maybe, maybe a long shot, I can brush elbows with Taylor Swift for a second.
