Alright, so should you start a website? That's the question we're answering today. This is Mike gannings on the landscapebusinesscourse.com podcast. And in short, I could really make this like the shortest episode ever recorded on a podcast by just saying, yes, you need a website. Alright? Now this is the thing. So a lot of people say, well, is there actually return on investment for a website? Now I would not recommend going out and spending five or ten thousand dollars hiring a web designer and all of that. However, having a web presence is integral to keep the professional image of your business high. Now a couple things I'm just going to toss out to you if you want like super in depth of all of this, you're going to have to check out landscapebusinesscourse.com but to keep this short, I'm going to throw out a couple things you have to do with your website. Okay? Like I'm not. I'm gonna talk a little bit of why exactly you need to. Okay, let's backtrack a little bit. Why do you need a website? Okay, this is the 21st century. Everyone that has a cell phone probably doesn't use a phone book. Anyone that has a smartphone and can search Google is not gonna use a phone book. Do not advertise in the white pages or the yellow pages or whatever phone book you have in your area. It's a waste of money. Okay? This is the 21st century. People are like, when was the last time you actually looked at a phone book, okay, and actually used it? Like it was probably five or ten years ago at least. There's this new thing called a smartphone and it is going to replace the way we advertise as business owners. Okay? You have to have a website and it has to be mobile friendly. All the tools that you need to do that are on landscapebusinesscourse.com and we talk about exactly what needs to be on the website, how to design it, needs to be mobile friendly, needs to be very clear to Google as to what your service area is. And we talk about exactly how to do that. Like what keywords should you be using? Why do you use your zip code and your city names and like you want to become the. This is the thing with our industry. Not too many people are good business owners. So when you run a great business, you actually stand out just by the fact that you run, you do good business. Fast estimating, invoicing, all of that. But this is an even greater area that our industry is falling behind in is whoever creates the best website is gonna stand out. And not just the best website, but just one that's professional because so many people don't. The guy that just has a pickup, pickup and throws his mower in there and rows on the weekends, he's not gonna have a website, he's not gonna have a web presence. So when people see your trucks or they hear.
More and more as we get into the 21st century, you're going to see people, the first thing they do is they're going to Google you, they're going to look for reviews, they're going to look for a good looking website. And your website is going to be a direct reflection of the professional level of your business. If your website, if you don't feel like it compares to your level of quality with your business, you need to hire someone or you need to use Weebly, or you need to use Jimdo, or you need to use WordPress, or you need to use any of these other sites to create a professional looking website that's gonna drive traffic to your.
You'Re gonna get traffic from the phone. That's really what you're trying to do on your website is you're trying to get people to pick up the phone and call you for an estimate. Okay? Now what you have to do on the website is present your professionalism by showing before and after pictures and all of that stuff that goes into a great website has gotta be reflected so that people, when they look you up, they see professional and there's no barrier for them to being like, oh, I should call them. Because a lot of times what people do is they will look up a company, they will search their local area for, you know, lawn care business in my area. Like for instance, if you ask Siri, no, where's a lawn care business? It's looking algorithmically at the area around you. So if your website, as a lawn care and landscaping business owner, if it does not clearly tell Google where it is located and what your service area is, you will get, you know, Google will not push you up in the rankings. But if you can be the dominating force, the dominating search engine so that Google is looking for any sort of search in your area for a lawn care landscaping, it's going to push you to the top. Now there's a lot of things you can do to get you to the top. Things like linking your social media and your YouTube channel and you know, Google is a big factor. All of those things are we Talk about on landscapebusinesscourse.com. check it out, check out the webinar. I answer all of your questions on this on the webinar, free, live and in person. This is Mike, and he's on the Landscape businesscourse.com podcast.
