Welcome to another episode. Today we are on the topic possibilities and I'm really excited today because we have Joe Nun Ziata, I hope I pronounced that right. Joe. And Joe is here. He's a best selling author. He said he's into the spiritual life. We're going to talk a lot about things, about how your energy works. And before I even go any further, I'm going to let Joe share his story. Hey Joe, how are you?
Great, great. Thank you so much, Mike. Thank you for having me. So I'll be, I'll give you the quick version just to get everybody kind of up to speed. So I'm originally from Brooklyn, New York. Grew up there as a kid. My dad was a narcotics, narcotics detective. So he worked on a lot of famous cases and actually was working with the guys with the French Connection. I don't know if you remember that movie or that book, but he worked with those people on that case at one point. So he was involved obviously in not the greatest world. And unfortunately he passed on the job when I was 12 years old. I ended up going to work right after high school because we had financial issues. So I got a job and I started working on a truck delivering beer actually in Brooklyn, Budweiser beer. So that's kind of how I got started. That was the beginning. I ended up buying a business at 19, which was a soda delivery business. Ended up going bankrupt at 20, wound up in New York City bartending and ended up living in New York and working in nightclubs and even managed a couple of places. Decided, you know, let me get into the business world. I was, you know, that was kind of a rough lifestyle. So I got into sales, did very, did well, bounced kind of up and down, bounced around a little bit. Ended up starting another business and in direct mail marketing, ended up going bankrupt a second time by the time I was 30. So I was really kind of frustrated and upset because I was, even though I didn't go to college, I was a voracious reader. I was always improving myself. I was setting goals, I was going to seminars, I was doing all this stuff and I just could not seem to crack the code, so to speak. And a friend of mine said I had an older guy who I knew. He said, you know, Joe, did you ever think of going to therapy now? You know, just so you know, Mike, Italians from Brooklyn, we didn't sit around the Sunday dinner table talking about therapy or feelings or emotions or anything like that. That wasn't our conversation. But I was, like, actually desperate. So I was like, you know what? At this point, I'll try anything. And I went to see a therapist that was referred and, you know, kind of went through the first session, and I was mesmerized. I was just so into it. I just was fascinated. So I started to read a lot and study a lot about how your mind works and how things work in your. Your brain, so to speak. Took some courses. He gave me a bunch of materials and audios and things like that to go through. And that led me into energy work and spiritual work. And then I started working on energy and meditation and the chakra system, which is the part of your. Actually, we all have a chakra energy system. It's spelled C H A K R A, which is we hold energy in these chakras. And the idea was you had to learn how to clear the negative energy out. And then once you did that, you changed your energetic field field and your vibrational field, and then you started to create better results in the external world. So basically, you know, I started out, I think, like many of us, kind of chasing after something and saying, okay, this is what I have to do. I make a plan, I go after it. I work hard. It happens. I did all that. It didn't work. I did it many, many times, and it didn't work. And finally I learned this work and it changed my life. And then I started to kind of use it in business. I started to use it as I was working at that point as a corporate sales director, and I started to use it with my team and started to get results and ended up leading to one of my book deals. And I started speaking, and that's kind of how it all evolved. But so I actually do both. I still work with companies and corporations, but I do a lot of work in the energy field just with people and helping them identify these blocks and then showing them how they can clear it and then empower themselves to then create the life that they want.
Oh, that's awesome. I mean, that was quick. You know, that's the New York version.
That's the. That's the reader. I know we don't have that much time, so I didn't want to give You. The full. The too long version. Yeah.
No, that's great.
So.
So we say, like, we talk about possibilities and. And anything's possible. And what. What I heard was that you've been knocked down a couple times and you kept getting back up.
Correct?
Yeah.
Yeah. I mean, you know, I think that was the. The New Yorker in me, or just, you know, the way I. I grew up, like I said, without a dad. So I had to learn how to deal, you know, I was able to be resilient enough to. To deal with controversy and come back from it. But, yeah, it was just really, ultimately for me, saying I couldn't tap into what was missing. And that's when it all really changed. Once I got into this other work and got a little deeper into myself, and that's when I started to see changes take place.
Well, you start hearing the word energy a lot. I mean, the other day I walked into the room and my girlfriend said, come on, change that energy. I just said, well, you know what? I've been. And I'm usually positive. I said, okay. So I've been going from like, I get up at 5am I do my workout. I. I take care of myself. I walk my best friend, which is my dog. I mean, I go have a Starbucks coffee. I journal. Then I go walk in this called the Greenway. Whether it's freezing, I don't go in the rain, but. And that's what I do. Then I prepare my day. Well, the day just. It was a long day. I didn't even say anything. I walked in, she goes, all that energy. I go, what do you mean, that energy? Usually you're positive, but something happened today. I said, well, not every day could be perfect. How can help me out? Can somebody like me walk in after a really long day, which I teach leadership, and I do different things and I'm working with businesses, I'm hearing their problems. How do you turn that into bringing good energy into something after having a tough day?
Well, I think it's not about. I think we look at energy as, like, how much zip do I have or how much pep in my step or whatever it is. That's not really what it is. Really. Energy is how you feel. And sometimes, you know, I know myself from doing training and being a person who does this work or exercise, whatever we do. You. You could be taught, you know, you could be physically tired because energetically, when you expend a lot of energy, I know I do when I do my work. So, you know, that's a different thing than Having energy that is negative. So it's learning. I think people throw this word energy around. It's. It's like anything else. They don't really understand what it is and how it works. So we have energy that we think of as, how do I feel? Do I feel, like, good? Do I feel strong? Do I feel, you know, whatever? And then the other part of it is, the much deeper part is the energy you're holding, which is creating your vibration, which is what you're actually projecting out. So that's the much more important part of the energy than just saying, hey, I'm tired or whatever. It's very, it's a, it's very different than just saying, oh, yeah, your energy's bad. To me, if your energy is bad means you don't feel good about yourself and you're holding negative feelings, that's a much bigger issue.
Oh, wow. Okay. So if I was going to ask you, I know you just, you just told us, but in a clear way. Not clear on your point. Maybe for me, number one, energy. Can you give me like a definition that we could take with us and understand it? Because I just like we knew in our, in sports and hockey, someone said, hey, he's an energy player. So he's going to change the tempo of a game. If you walk into a company and you could tell that that employee has bad energy and they could bring the rest of the team down. Tell me about the energy you're talking about.
So basically, the way you want to understand it, the way I teach it for people in the beginning, is we are very third dimensional, which means we look at everything in the physical world, which is really the after effect, so to speak. So you have to see everything is energy. So I'm energy, your energy. The computer that I'm using is energy. The desk is energy. Everything is energy. Every, all energy carries vibration. So what's happening is you. We all have our own, in effect, unique signature. So even though we're all one energy, we came here to have our own thing. Right? So you have your energy, I have mine. So my energy is vibrating at a certain level. So it's actually scientific. So the vibration that I send out is now going to create my reality in the physical world. So this is. So I'll tell you where this comes in. This is why people say, I don't. This is how I really bought into it, because I said, okay, I'm doing all this stuff, but I'm not getting the results. What am I missing? And that's when I Realized it, doing all this stuff. Yeah. Do you have to do things because we are in a physical world? Absolutely. But if my energy is not in alignment with where I'm going, I will not get there. But without that vibrational alignment, it doesn't happen. So that's probably the best description I can give you. Hopefully that helped.
Oh, I love that. You know, I once read, I worked with a group when I was doing. Working with Wachovia at one time now Wells Fargo and. And the group used to talk about, you don't manage your time, you manage your energy. Can we relate the same type of process to that?
So basically, think about your life that you've created now. You have to understand you created your life. Now part of it is there's two different things going on. So this is. So I like to people to understand you have parts of your life that are, let's say, the challenges or difficulties or whatever we would call them. Those are things that you came here to work on and learn. So that's part of it. The other part of your energy is to say, okay, am I dealing with this issue? Because if I don't deal with the issue, I keep holding the negative energy. That's what we would call or consider a negative cycle. So you keep saying, wow, you know, I keep, like, I hear this a lot of people that dating. Oh, I keep having the same experience. Or work. I keep having the same experience or. You played sports, right? You know, there are certain teams, Mike, that, you know, had a different energy when they came in. And I remember years ago, I was. I grew up in New York as a big Yankee fan. And I remember. And obviously, you know, they used to play the Red Sox a lot because that was the big rivalry. And I remember at one point, you. I don't know if you remember, Wade Boggs, who was the big star of the Red Sox, ended up going to the Yankees and winning a World Series with them. And he, he was doing an interview and he said something that was so compelling in for this kind of thing. He said, you know what the difference was? He said, when we walked on the field, we were hoping to win. The Yankees knew they were going to win. So it's the energy. See, that vibration carried that team because they all kind of lived in that space. But as individuals, if I'm holding negativity, if I'm holding fear, if I'm holding unworthiness, all those feelings will generate a negative result. So you've got to be able to say, you know, it's not just What I'm doing. I think we're so caught up in doing, doing, doing. This is really. I have to take almost take a step back and say, how do I feel? So this is when I start working with clients. I say, you need to keep a journal of your emotions and say to yourself, how did I feel throughout the day as these things were happening? And learn how to really identify what you're feeling. That's the first step to then being able to shift that energy and move yourself to a different result.
I love that. I love that. And by the way, I am a big Yankee fan. Even though I grew up in Detroit. I had. I had Tanya and Sturts on the show not too long ago.
Okay.
And if he's a friend of my brother's and he's a friend of mine, and he talked about how he was in that fight when the Yankees were playing the Red Sox and they threw at a rod. But I don't want. This is not a sports show. I want.
I can remember it well.
Well. And they talk about, like, in sports, and you could use this in business, do you come. Do you come to the stadium to win, or do you come not to lose? It's kind of the same. I love that. Okay, so let's go to the second thing I read and I read. We talked about this, and I read something that you have. You. You say, clearing it out. What does that mean?
So now what happens is in order. So one of the things for me, when I started learning spiritual energy work, a lot of the stuff I came in contact with is what I would call being a New Yorker. I would say it was kind of airy, fairy. You know, it was all this like, be happy, love everybody, or whatever it is. And I said, that's nice, but that's not the reality of the world. Right. That's not what's happening. So part of it is saying I need to deal with the emotion that I don't want to deal with. So if I'm feeling a feeling that's negative, what we've been taught, most of us, is if I came to you and said, hey, boy, you know, Mike, I feel really down. Things aren't working out. You know, my life is not going in a positive direction. What would you say in that case? If I said that to you, what would I say?
I probably have a negative response. Probably.
What would you say?
I don't know. Things aren't going my way. I'm frustrated. I'd maybe blame people.
Right, Right. You go into a victim energy or whatever the case. So what you have to learn to say is, why do I feel this way? Where is this coming from? And it's going to link back to your childhood because there's something that happened to you growing up that you didn't resolve. So generally it's going to be a feeling that you're holding toward. Really, it's toward yourself. But something happened with your parents or something happened when you were growing up, and it probably happened repeatedly. So, like, when I work with somebody and I'll say, well, how did your. You know, they'll kind of identify and say, well, my dad was hard on me. And I'll say, how did your dad talk to you? And they'll say, well, he was always telling me I was doing something wrong. He was always berating me. He was always this. So now I'm carrying all that anger toward my father for doing that to me, and I'm carrying all this negativity within myself. So the way to deal with it is to first say, I'm angry about this, which a lot of people don't want to do. They don't want to say, yeah, I'm angry at my father, I'm angry at my mother. And also then say, I need to deal with this feeling. And say, yes, I have to accept I do feel bad about myself, and I need to allow myself to feel the sadness and release that feeling that I have never addressed because I've been avoiding it my whole life. Because that's how we learn to protect ourselves. So it takes us into deeper work to do it.
I love that. So we always tell stories on the shows because it's about stories, mindset, and champions. And this is great because possibilities, we talk about possibilities, but if you don't have your mindset, your energy and clearing it out, as you just said, all in the right place, place, then it's hard to have those possibilities. That's why, you know, I. I love what you do. And I. I know all about your bestselling books and you got some great things. But I'll share a quick little story with you. When I was a kid and people thought my father was crazy, he's the most lovable guy. He loves me. He was hard on me as in school, and he was hard on me as an athlete. And my mother is a wonderful person. She would sit and listen and I would get into the car and I was 10 years old, and my father would say, how do you think you played today? And I said, I did okay. He goes, ah, you were Horrible today. Are you kidding? So then another game goes by, another game. And you know, my, you know, or in school, my. I, I would do. I bring home a C. And if I brought home a D, that means you're done. So I brought home a C. And he goes, well, how do you think you did on this test? I think I did okay. Okay, a C, you can't. And so it's funny you said that, but then sometimes what happened with my confidence was. And I know my father's gonna listen, he's gonna want to, you know, knock me out. He's in San Diego. We relationship. And then I get in the car and I joke with him about this. And he would say, well, how do you think you played? Oh, not too good. No, you were great today. You went to the net. And, and, and, and what he didn't know was the, the old school inconsistency. I still think about that today. So we're probably. When we're done, I'm going to probably.
Call you and I'll clear some energy out for you.
Oh, that's fine. But I. Everything's about a story. I don't hold back. And again, I'm going to say it again. My father gave me everything that I needed to have the tools to move to Canada and do what I want to do and live my dream. And this is not about me. But you brought up something that. Wow. I thought back and I talked to so many people and I've had even people say, well, I remember in school people said, I look fat or whatever it is. And they, they hold on to that. Yeah. And then I'm going to get into the second thing because I know, I read this with you, karma. Share that with me, because that's. I'm a big person that believes in karma, but I'm sure you're going to clarify it a little bit for me to. So I could really know what karma means. So how does it mean in your world, in the energy world?
So basically, I think I wrote a book actually, called Karma Buster because it was one of those things that I wanted to clarify for people. I think we think of karma. When I went out and wrote the book, I spoke to a bunch of people and I said to them, tell me your definition of karma. And most of them said, well, you know, what goes around comes around. So if I'm a good person, good things will happen, and if I'm a bad person, bad things will happen. So I said, well, that's kind of like taking this gigantic principle and Bringing it and you're getting an eyedrop of what it really is. So really your karma, the way I see it in this work has been your karma is the blueprint for the emotional experience you came here to have in this lifetime. So that's why we all have karma. And it's not energy just to understand in energy world, there is no good or bad, right or wrong, there's no judgment. Energy is just clean. So in your karma, because you came to have an emotional experience, obviously I need to have positives and negatives because here in third dimension, in the physical world, this is a world of duality, right? We have positive, negative, like sports, you have win, lose, right? That's the way it works. So your karma is that blueprint for you. So you, before you came here, you specifically said, this is the experience I want to have. And I'm going to, I will do it this way. I will have it through. In your life, playing sports, maybe in my life, going through business failure, somebody else's life, maybe have physical issues or illnesses. So we chose this path. And now the idea is to say, can I work through the issues and then connect to my higher self and then really get myself on the path, the high path, the high road. So it takes work, of course, to get there. But we accept that. I came to have challenges. I didn't come here to just have this nice, easy, airy, fairy life. Because that's what happens when you leave here, when you finish your third dimensional life, you cross over and on the other side, you don't have any of these issues. So you chose to come here and have, for lack of a better term, some drama. And you want to accept that that's why you're here. And the idea is to say, how do I move through this? And the key to really elevating yourself is learning how to master your emotional space and then deal with the energy that comes with it. And once you get there, then you can really change the way you live.
Well, this has been very informative. This has been fantastic. And without what people have to realize, like they wait, let's say I'm not a football player. But sometimes the first thing they teach you if you're a football player, is to carry the ball under your left or right arm a certain way. And I don't know football. Someone say, what is he talking about? But it's the basics in order. Like in corporate America, you need the basics. Well, Joe, I want you to tell everybody where they can get in touch either. But before they do that we could also. We're going to find Joe on hartman.academyno.com. as everybody knows, all of our listeners, we have listeners all over the world. And I'm gonna. I'm gonna throw your information up there. Your book. But tell us where, if somebody wanted to directly reach out to you, where can we reach out to you at?
Well, the best place. Go to my site. It's Joe J O E N U N z dot com. Joe Nuns. I shortened it. I actually have Jay Nunciata, but people can't spell it, so I got Jonah. So it's J-O E N U N Z dot com. You can find all my information. You can contact me through there and you can find my books and all my information, events and so forth. I do webinars every month. I do all kinds of stuff virtually as well. So they could see all my info right there.
Well, you bring so much. This is helpful for me. I mean, this was a lesson. Now here I was. I know a lot about you. I've heard a lot of great things from you. You have that Southern accent. I'm kidding. I could hear that New York accent from here to.
Oh, yeah.
But it's been great having you and looking forward to chatting again for sure, Joe.
Well, Mike, thank you so much. It's a pleasure and a privilege. I really appreciate you reaching out to me and having me on your show. So thank you so much.
