Hello everybody, and welcome to the Healthy Mindset App Podcast. And I'm excited to be back. I'm going to be doing a lot of these 7-minute mindset tips and giving out information. And I thought it was important that I would talk about this today because somebody asked me, they said, hey Mike, what is the secret to having a healthy mindset because I want to be like a top athlete at what I do. We never use names on here, but I work with several world-class athletes, athletes all over the world from different sports. And one of my athletes said, what is the trick? And I'm going to tell you, there is no trick. So as a mindset coach, I can give you every system, every tool, every bit of guidance, but at the end of the day, it's you that lives it. You're the one that laces up the skates. You're the one that gets ready to play if you're a tennis player, if you play golf, lacrosse, whatever it is that you, whatever it is that you do. Now, I'm going to go through what I call is the 10 truths about mindset and performance that every athlete should understand. And yes, I wrote a book and the book's a tool. Somebody said to me, "Hey, can I just read these 100 ways?" I had the book years ago, 100 Ways to Become Your Personal Best. Well, that's just a tool. And the truth is I've lived it. I've lived it as an athlete. I've lived through the ups and downs. I've played at the highest level. I've experienced things that a lot of athletes go through, mental blocks. And this is a big reason why I do what I do over the last 20 years. So, the first thing I want to talk to you about again is focusing on you. You know, I'm going to give you a bunch of exercises to do, but it's up to you to do it. So training your mind is no different than training your body. In fact, the mind and body are one. If the mind isn't working, the body isn't working, and vice versa. So the exercises only work if you're going to do them, and you have to do them consistently. You just can't do them a little bit. You have to train the mind just like you train the body. Number 2, I could teach you focus, but you have to stay present when it matters. And our book talks about that. We teach mindfulness, but only you could do it. The best athletes are always where their 2 feet are. That's where you need to be. Yeah, of course we go up through ups and downs. I love watching baseball. Watch the playoffs. How exciting was that? But The thing is, it's wherever your two feet are. Number 3, I can build, I can help build your preparation. I could help you choose the effort that you need to do. Every drill, there's people that do drills and they, they drills on the ice, drills as a tennis player. Every rep is important and the little details are important, but the one thing that you can control is your effort. You can control your effort. Be fully in control of what you do. Otherwise, you could do all the drills you want. I watched somebody recently, somebody put something up on the internet and I don't even think they played at any high level or they don't coach at a high level. They were showing NHL players doing these drills and I said to myself, well, that's great, but you can't just develop the skill set of one of the top players in the world, like some of these players are. It takes a lot of work, but you have to be in control of it. Number 4, I could help you visualize success. I could do imagery with you. I could help you execute under pressure. Anyone could imagine success. The question is, can you stay calm and confident when everything is on the line? That's what you have to practice. So a lot of practice with this is what's going to help you. Number 5, another thing is, because we have our course and the course is there to guide you and our program, the system, the assessment, and it's a great tool. And then we do the guidance and we use our, even our Healthy Mindset App Coach AI to guide you. That's a big purpose of why we do that. But we can guide you through your routines, but you control your reaction. Every athlete faces adversity. You are going to fail, I promise. You are not going to be perfect. There's no way. You could use all the clichés you want. You could read books that now people do when they go through ChatGPT and they, they write their book. You could do all that, but the mindset of living in the moment after a mistake and what you do after that is totally up to you. Another thing, number 6, I could help you reset. Someone said to me, "Hey, this coach always talks about reset." Well, that's easy, but you have to decide when to go forward with it. Champions don't avoid mistakes, by the way, also. They recover from them a lot quicker because they know how to reset. This is all through training and tools, of course. But the next play always matters more than the last one. I remember a coach, I said something to a coach when I was a junior hockey player. And I said, hey coach, you're only as good as your last game. And he said to me, well, if that was the case, you would have been gone a long time ago. So, all these clichés and everything that we say, we just have to be careful on how we do it. And again, it's all up to us. Number 7, I could share proven systems, but you have to bring the belief. Belief separates the good from the great. You can't fake it. And there's a lot of people we know, they put— they fake it till they make it. They, you know, there's coaches that I talked to out there that come to us for extra coaching, and one said to me, hey, I'm gonna, you know, put some of these things out there, but I'm gonna have a lot of these fake reviews. And I said, please don't do that. It's the same as an athlete playing. You have to work hard and you'll get the reviews. You'll get them, and it's tough, but no matter what it is, it's everything we do is built through discipline, preparation, and trust your work. Be confident. The fake it till you make it thing does not work for me. Number 8, I could teach you self-talk. And we always talk about self-talk. I love it. I bought the app Calm for myself and LeBron James was on there. It was amazing. And, you know, he's one of the best athletes in the world. But you have to properly say the right words that defines you. It's your internal voice that is your loudest coach. That's what I always say. So, speak like a pro. Act like a pro even when you don't feel like one. Having that belief, like I mentioned earlier, is important. Number 9, I could help you find purpose in your game. Of course we can. This is what we do as a coach. Coach gives directions, but you must protect it. You're the one that has to protect your purpose. When you know why you play and everyone says, well, what is your why? Well, that's great. You do need a why because that will help you challenge yourself and even and in the moment, in the meeting, of course, what is your why? But again, you have to do it. There isn't any magical tricks to it. And number 10, I can coach your mindset, but only you could live it. Whereas a lot of mindset coaches, and there's a lot of great ones out there, and there's a lot of ones that I sometimes pretend, and I'm not going to say bad things about anybody in particular. We've been doing this 20 years. I've had some of the best training in the world and you could fake it. And the only thing I feel bad is sometimes parents are the ones that are paying for this. So you have to really do your due diligence. But, and I could prepare you, but only you can compete, have that compete within you. You decide how you respond, how you lead, how you show up every day and what you do without having to talk. And that's where transformation happens. So it's all about transformation.
