Today, in our stories of gratitude, I'm going to talk about three athletes that have really touched me. Well, just to start it here, I'm really not much of a Detroit Lions fan, even though I am from Michigan. I should be one, right? But I'm more of a Buffalo Bills fan. So I hope that doesn't turn anybody off. But they're really one step away from the super bowl now. And my biggest takeaway of watching the entire game is watching Aiden Hutchinson and I didn't even know who he is. I'm not a big, even though I played a professional sport, I'm not really a big sports fan with names and did a little research into Aiden, realized that he is from the Michigan area, played football for Michigan, his father played for Michigan. But really what touched my heart was after the game how he looked up into the crowd and just took it all in. And this is what we talk about. Just, we're talking about stories of gratitude and being mindful and, and look where you are. You're playing in Detroit. You're playing for the Detroit Lions. He was playing against players he idolized like Stafford that night. And he had players on the sidelines like Barry Sanders, among others. And for him he just, I listened to one of his interviews and boy, I really like this, really like this player. But he's so mindful and grateful and humble with where he is. And to me that means a lot. We teach that, we talk about that quite a bit and just love it. For me, it's so special to watch these players do it. And we can't emphasize enough the importance of being mindful, showing gratitude. I talk to my young players all the time and I almost have to convince some of them and they're not even at the world class level. I have some really good athletes, of course, and I have some world class athletes at the highest level and it seems like the world class athletes really understand this and they should because they're world class athletes. But some of you younger athletes out there, you should watch this and Watch and learn and be appreciative of these athletes. I was watching the Baltimore Orioles and there was a catcher named Andy Ruchman. I think that's how you say his name. Maybe I'm saying it wrong again, but I was watching him. The first pitch of the game, he takes the pitch as a catcher, and then what he does is he stands up and he's looking around the whole stadium. He just took it in. And I just love that. I've seen it happen so many times. It happened in the Final Four last year with a team calling a timeout, and I heard the announcer say, the whole purpose of this timeout was to get the team together, close your eyes and do some visualization. I mean, if this doesn't sound like enough, and we're not trying to sell you on this, but you don't realize how much this could help you. Even if you're a workplace athlete or no matter what you do, you could take this in and learn. Some of you from Michigan, again, the Michigan quarterback being so mindful, I think his name is J.J. mcCarthy. And what I've read about him is he leans on motivation. And how does he do that? He practices meditation and mindfulness, and that's what motivates him. That's what keeps his head in the game. And these are things that we've talked about so much that could really just help you in your overall game, in your overall life, and being fully mindful of the situation. Have you ever been to a hockey game and the rookie, the first game that rookie will play in the National Hockey League, they give him the spotlight. He gets up, gets to go on the ice and warm ups. He's the only one out there shooting pucks. The purpose of that, you know, the way I look at that, is giving this player the ability to be mindful, to be fully in the moment, to be fully present and get out there and this is your time. So I just really wanted to emphasize on a few of these stories that I saw, and it's. To me, it's just, it's so crucial that some of you young players do it. So no matter what level you are, you don't have to play at the highest level or be in the top 1% or be a college athlete. No matter where you play, if you play high school, be in the moment, look where you are. If you're playing in a high school championship or you're playing, you're a bantam hockey player or you play flag football, it doesn't matter. You could still fully be in that moment and it would really help you and it's going to maximize your potential. It really will. It will maximize what you're doing because you're going to realize over time that boy, it's a privilege to play a sport and how grateful it is that you could do this. So I hope this has helped you.
