Today I'm going to give you some self coaching tips on confidence. And as you know as an athlete or you're a workplace athlete, that confidence is so important and how can you work on your confidence? Like what, what can you do to, to become more confident? And there's, I'm going to give you just a couple things that could really help you. So if you want, you can get a pen out and write these down or go back and listen to this and confidence first you have to understand who you are. So it's very important that you did take one of our assessments whether you're the athlete, which I believe everybody's an athlete, I've mentioned that many times, but the athlete that plays on the athletic field course, court or ice, or you're the workplace athlete. So maybe you work in corporate America, but we still have that athlete's mindset and confidence is still very important in the workplace. So one thing you have to do, I truly believe is practice self acceptance, like accepting who you are, knowing who you are, things that you do well. One thing that you could work on is embrace your strengths and your weaknesses and understand that you're not perfect. So we always would say in sports too that if you're, let's say you're a hockey player and you're known not to be a goal scorer, not that you can't score goals, but that might not be one of your biggest strengths. You might be more of a defensive player, really become the best defensive player and that just helps within confidence. The same with any sport that you play or even in your job or your everyday life. So confidence is something that has to be worked on. So it's very important that you accept who you are. And one thing too I like to talk about is don't compare yourself to the person next to you. We're all unique, we're all different, we all have different attributes and we're all good at different things. I was with somebody yesterday for lunch and he's an electrician. I can't do what he does. I don't have those skills or that skill set. He may not have some of my skill sets. So don't ever compare yourself and these things will help you within your confidence. We talked about goals a lot and within our course and our e learning within here in the community we talk about smart goals but we also believe in setting goals that are achievable. So break down those larger goals into smaller manageable. We talked about measurable goals and that will help you build some confidence because you're going to start accomplishing things little bit more than setting these goals that are really not measurable, they're not attainable. Improve your self awareness, understand your thoughts and feelings and address any negative things about yourself or negative talk. I use this example a lot for the weekend Warrior. I play pickleball and I always hear people getting mad at themselves or saying oh, what a terrible shot, I'm awful here, I'm not very good at this. Well, think about that. That could bring down not only you but also bring down the confidence level of your partner because now your partner's not going to have any confidence in you as well. And it's the same as if you're working in the workplace and you tell somebody I'm really not good at this and I'm terrible, I can't focus. That's going to affect not only your confidence because the negativity, you're also going to affect the people next to you. So so work on these new things. And the way to do it too is when we look at confidence, develop some new skills continuously learn. I like to read and I like to learn from many people. I mentioned the word pickleball a few seconds ago. I love pickleball, as you've heard me say that a lot. I'm an average pickleball player, but I played with a pro recently and I just watched the pro and what the pro did, you could learn from that. Another good example is I used to, I've heard this a long time ago, imagining that the person that you idolize is watching you or you're even watching them and what they do and you can even emulate them. Now be yourself. Don't hide behind a mask, but develop new skills that are going to make yourself better. You might have somebody that's really good at something that may work in your company, who you work for and watch how they do it and keep learning and keep educating yourself because new skills can help build your confidence too. I mentioned it a little bit earlier about the importance of Positive self talk. I talk about that a lot. These will replace negative thoughts with positive affirmations and they'll remind yourself of different things as well. Or good things that happen within your life. Say good things to yourself. So no matter what it is within your sport, you're a high school basketball player and you've missed three shots. Positive self talk would be something like, you know what? Okay, I've missed those three. Now it's time. Let's have a little reset and let's start focusing. And you replace those with negative thoughts and you will feel so much better. Also remember the time when you did make those three shots. Same within the office. All of a sudden everything's happening and sometimes things happen in three. So you've had three negative things happen. To have a little reset, it's the same thing. And you have that little reset and you say to yourself, okay, these three things happen. It's time. We're going to turn it around. And it's not conning yourself, it's saying these positive things just to remind yourself, these affirmations that will help you in your everyday life. Body language is so important. You've heard me mention that a lot of whether you're the athlete or workplace athlete, if you're an athlete and you are sitting on the bench and you're not playing but you're sulking, that's bad body language. Or it looks like you're not even engaged or you don't care, that's going to just send off bad energy to your team and it's really not going to help your confidence level at all. But if you sit there and say, okay, I'm going to learn, I'm going to watch what these players are doing, yes, I want to be out there, but I'm going to make it happen. That will help your confidence and you'll feel open. If you're working in an office and you have, let's say your boss is talking to you or somebody that you report to is talking to you and you're folding your arms, that's kind of closing them off. You may not even realize it that you're closing them off. Be a little bit open. So your body language is going to really determine a lot. And it's also going to help you in your own confidence level. Now, when I say dress for success, that doesn't mean you don't have to dress to the nines and get all dressed up and look, but dress professionally. Let's start with the young athlete. If you're coming in with ripped sweats and not really dressed appropriate. It's not going to make you feel good about yourself. Maybe some people say, it doesn't make me feel bad about myself. Just talk to a police officer and they always have to be dressed appropriately. They can't have their shirts out. I was talking to her recently. She cannot just show up and look all disheveled. You have to look like you have some style. And it's the same with you. No matter what it is that you do, you will just feel better and then you'll present more confidence to others as well as having that confidence within yourself. One thing that I tell people to do is face your fears. You don't just face them and go right at them, but gradually confront, overcome your fears and your insecurities to build that resilience within yourself. Facing your fears are not easy. I use an example. If somebody told me recently that they're dyslexic. And I really respected that, that they came out and told me that, and they told me when they were young, people thought that this individual, and we never say names, wasn't smart. This person's very intelligent, but they had a form of dyslexia. And it really held them back until that person had to face it and overcome it and do everything that person could do to try to work with what it is that they have. They face that fear. And now this person's very successful in their life and has more confidence because they addressed it. It's the same with you. Address the. Those things that may be holding you back a little bit, even some of your fears. The other thing I want to talk about is seek support. Surround yourself with friends or family or a coach or somebody that could help you within your life. Try not to be around people that are going to bring you down. Now, we may have somebody on a team that constantly says negative things to you and brings you down. What I say is. And it's sometimes words, there's more than words when it comes to this. But one thing I said, hey, if it's not going to change my life, I don't care what they're going to say. And most likely it's not going to change your life. And it's the same as in an office. Surround yourself with people that care and mentors. And it's so important that you do that for yourself, for your own confidence level. Because remember, there's always going to be somebody there that may not agree with you. They may bring you down and just be strong inside and say you Know what? I'm okay. I'm going to take some of these tools that we're learning here in the community. We're going to take this and we're going to apply it. At the very end, I'm going to talk a little bit about self coaching, so bear with me. I want to talk about self care and how important that is. Your physical care, your well being. We've talked about it so much. We have a lot of great things here in the community that's going to really help you with that. From meditation to visualization to some good tips on nutrition and how to fuel your body. The mind map, the E learning course, and that's. We call that self coaching because one thing we talk about with self coaching is we can't be there all the time for you. Like we can't hold your hand all the time. Now we do do some one on one coaching or you might have mentors in your life, but they can't be there all the time. So you're going to have to learn to self coach yourself. That's why I believe these techniques are so important. And then you learn some of our tips like motivation, you learn how to do that so you could do it on your own. You learn how to take care of yourself and properly fuel your body by, by educating yourself. So remember that building confidence takes time and effort. So be patient with yourself and work on these of all aspects of your life. If again, if you need a mental health professional or somebody that does that along those lines, and the self coaching isn't something that I recommend that you do, I really think it's important that you talk to a professional who could really help you with that. Because don't get me wrong, yes, self coaching is good for you and it's great to learn, but it doesn't replace medical help. So we always tell people to make sure you consult with your physician even before you know doing something. Meaning if you have some really things that are weighing you down and you have some things that are really setting you back in your overall life, then it's time to really talk to somebody.
