Now let's dive headfirst into this episode of the Healthy Mindset App Podcast podcast. Here's your host, Mike Hartman.
Today we're going to get into why setting daily intentions can be so powerful for so many different reasons. Let's talk about number one. A focused mindset. Intention settings help you start your day with a very clear focus on what you want to achieve and how do you want to approach the day. I always say make your bed. Do the first thing. You wake up in the morning and make your bed. You're off to a positive start. This also directs your thoughts and actions toward desired outcomes. So let's start our day on a positive note. Number two, Positive outlook. By setting positive intentions, you shape your perspective and attitude. This can lead to a more optimistic and proactive mindset which can improve your overall well being and how you handle challenges. So we all go through different adversities in our life, but a positive outlook is going to help you. So if you get up and you say oh boy, I don't want to get up in the morning today, I feel like, like I don't want to do it, I don't want to go to the gym, I'm not going to exercise. Let's wake up with a more positive outlook. So number three is alignment with your goals. Daily intentions can align you with your long term goals. We practice smart goals. If you read the Healthy Mindset for Athletes and Workplace athlete books, there's a whole thing in there about smart goals. So. But when you set your attentions are in line with your values and aspirations, you create a sense of the things that you want to do on a daily action. You feel good about it. You feel like, okay, I could do this. You feel larger than life. You want to do it. So align your goals with your daily intentions and good things will happen. Number four Mindfulness. We talked about mindfulness so many times. About what? Being fully present, being in the moment, Intention setting and encourages mindfulness and being present in the moment. Remember, think about being in the moment. Whether you're playing pickleball in the morning, be in the moment, whether you're exercising, whether you're in a Meeting whether you're one on one with somebody. This is something that we work on a lot, being fully mindful, being in the moment. So when you set your intentions, you're more likely to pay attention to your actions and your experiences throughout the day rather than going through just emotions. Like we say in our sports, you know, they just, just showing up. If you catch yourself doing that, we always need actionable items. Do some self talk. Talk to yourself. Number five, stress management. Setting intentions can help manage stress. Doesn't mean it's going to get rid of your stress, but giving you a sense of purpose and control. So instead of feeling overwhelmed by the day's demands, you approach it with these certain tasks. And we've talked about it before with, with this intentional mindset that, okay, going to do something like imagery, I'm going to do meditation, I'm going to do something that could help me manage my stress. And we talked a lot about habits. When we talk about habits, we go into the point of consistently setting intentions that you can cultivate positive habits. When you intentionally focus on specific behaviors or actions, you're more likely to reinforce those behaviors over time. So practice it. It's not easy. Get yourself on a schedule. Practice habits. Habits is a big part of what we do in our healthy mindset app community and we focus on these habits, but it's practicing. This is all practicing. Number seven, increased awareness. Intentions prompt self awareness. They encourage you to reflect on your priorities, desires and areas of growth. This self awareness can lead to personal development and a better understanding of yourself. But be aware of who you are and accept yourself no matter, you know, we always try to compare ourselves to others, but we are who we are and you can only be your best self. Number eight, personal empowerment. Intention setting empowers you to take charge of your daily life and in your everyday life. For as far as that goes, you actively decide how you want to show up. So you could show up miserable, you could be happy, you could be angry, which leads to a greater sense of self control. So if you're going to show up and you know you don't want to be there, people could read body language. You ever hear anybody say, boy, I could read energy? Well, you can. It's not, you don't have to be a genius to read energy. Someone brings energy in. I was playing pickleball the other day and somebody walked in and they didn't have to say a word. You just knew their energy was, was, was not. You know, maybe they had a bad day, but they brought that energy to me. So, so make sure that you you're setting good intentions. So being resilient is is I love this one. I work with with so many athletes and workplace athletes. So when you set intentions and align with the qualities like resilience, patience or adaptability, you equip yourself with tools to navigate challenges and you bounce back from setbacks. So we always take our assessment with our, with us. We believe you take an assessment and it gives you a baseline of where you are. And if you agree in the assessment that, you know, I could be probably in a better place, you work towards that. You work towards the patience and the adaptability and you equip yourself with tools that will help you. It could be again, imagery, meditation, the assessments a tool Improved Relationships I've said it in the last episode, setting intentions related to kindness, empathy or active listening can improve your intentions with others. Being intentional about how you engage with people can enhance your relationships. And I was with somebody a couple weeks ago when this lady got out of the car and the first thing this person that I was with said, oh my gosh, your dress is beautiful. That just put a smile on that person's face. And that wasn't being fake. There wasn't anything fake about it except it just, it was from the heart. Now again, we don't teach you to be fake or phony. It's not about that. It's about doing things if you really feel it. If you don't feel it, don't be fake or phony. I hope this has helped you.
