A short motivational podcast episode from the Mike Hartman Show (host Mike Hartman) featuring Healthy Mindset App Coach AI. The episode contrasts being "interested" (curious, prepared, learning-focused) with being "interesting" (self-focused), and urges athletes and business professionals to study organizations, people, and contexts to gain advantage; it ends with calls-to-action to visit the Hartman Academy and the Healthy Mindset e-learning.

Welcome back to another episode. We're still on our little mini course and I'm going to use the term interested or interesting. Now let's talk about the young athlete. Are you interested or are you interesting? Well, I hope you're going to answer by saying, I'm interested. I'm interested in learning. I'm interested in gaining knowledge. I'm interested in learning as much as I can so I could better myself, so I could know the situation I'm going to. For an example, let's say you get recruited to Michigan State and you're a hockey player and you go there. Do you know the name of the stadium? Do you know who their captain is? Do you know how many seniors that are coming back? Do you know who the coaches are? Do you know the last time they won a national championship? You have to be interested instead of interesting. So when you go in and you're going to meet somebody, let's say it's a coach, you want to really have all the knowledge possible about that school that you're going to so you could put that good impression on. So at least you're not just an interesting. Maybe they look at you as a selfish person being interesting the same too. I was working. This is for the business athlete, but a little bit different. You could apply this any way you want. There was a young athlete I was working with and he was in sports management. I call him the business athlete Sports management. And he was looking to do an apprenticeship and he was telling me he's going to go to this particular team and hopefully get a summer apprenticeship. And I asked him, well, who's their big league club? He didn't know. I said, you have to know this stuff. You have to be interested in this. You have to know, like, who is there? Let's say he was going to a Double A club. Who's the Triple A team? Where are they from? I'm not sure who owns the team? Is it privately owned or does the big league team own a piece of this team? This is something that you have to know. You have to dive in. And I learned this at a very young age. I remember my father, he worked for the Detroit Red Wings. He was the photographer. That was his passion. It still is. He loves the photography. He does it for the place, you name it. He just loves taking pictures. He put that camera in his hand, especially back in the old days with the big zoom lens and everything. He loved to take pictures, but he would always come home with those books of all the players in it. They had those little media guides. And I would study everything about everybody else. Maybe a little bit, a little bit more on the OCD side, where I was just really getting too deep into it. But I was interested in knowing about everybody. Where are they from? How many Americans play in the National Hockey League? And I learned this at a young age, like so. You know, my father used to quiz me. He says, okay, so there's 21 teams. What's the percentage of Americans that are in the NHL? I don't know. Well, you told me it was 10%. 10% of the players in the NHL back then were Americans. Now it's a lot higher. So we would talk about that and it was really interesting just to learn. But I was not interesting. I was interested in everything. And I think if you take that with you, it's going to help you and it's going to help you be prepared. Personally, I read about three self help books a month. I love. They could be a long book, it could be a short book, it could be a competitor. But I love to read, I love to learn, and I highly recommend you do the same. That's going to further you as a person. It's going to help you with your confidence because now you're going into a situation that you know, no matter what it is, whether you're the athlete that plays the sport that we're talking about or you're the business athlete, go into these situations. So I want you to ask yourself, are you interested or are you interesting? I've said that enough. Go to Hartman Academy. If you need any help with this, reach out to us. You'll see us there.
