Now let's dive headfirst into this episode of the Healthy Mindset app podcast podcast. Here's your host, Mike Hartman.
This is the first episode in what I call is Life after Sports. And my whole purpose is to help anybody that has played sports. So I know there are a lot of groups out there or organizations that only work with athletes that were collegiate athletes or professional athletes. And for me, I want to help all athletes, athletes. I'm out there to help everybody. We're in the business to help, to lead, to share, to share our knowledge or do whatever we can to help people. So I want to do is offer this to a high school athlete. So if a high school athlete is just finishing their, their high school career or they're just even ready to, even if they're a senior and they want to learn more and they want to get polished up on their life skills, we are here to do it, but we're here to do it for next to nothing. And all you have to do is you'll just have to go to our website and I'll put it in the show notes. Actually, it's a lot easier for me just to put it in the show notes. But I want to do is offer our 30 life skill courses to individuals as well as a personal talents assessment as well as our system. So the way it works is I have a system. If you went to healthymindsetapp.com it's a, we call it a 14 day system and really we say 14 days because we want you to finish it. We have 14 different chapters of the Healthy Mindset system. It's a 14 day system. So what you would do is you would log on to the website and you would look at the program that best suits you. But in this case, Life after sports, I'm using the personal talents assessment. So the first thing you do is you would take an assessment and we have a validated assessment. And that assessment, what it does, it looks at the different views. So our assessment for personal talents, it wants to look at how you value yourself. And we look at it from two views. Again, one view is the world view and then the other view is a Self view. So the world view is the extrinsic side of things. How do you look at things from the outside world looking in? So we want to look at that. We want to see how you look. So you may show up one day. Good example is you look fine, you look like everything is going on, but intrinsically you're hurting. So you might have a smile on your face, but intrinsically you're hurting. And that is called the self view. So we look at the intrinsic side of things. The next thing is we educate. And I want you to go through the 14 chapters and they're really short. I purposely made them short. I know a lot of athletes have the ADD adhd. I was told I had adult ADD at one time. And again someone says, well, how do you have it at one time? Either you have it or you don't. I was never diagnosed, but sometimes I get bored and my mind drifts and I go off on a tangent. So I know for me I wanted a short course. So we have that short audio course and you get a little certificate. And it's not about getting a certificate, but we really want you to finish the course. And it works on, on yourself. Teaches you a little bit about being grateful and having mindfulness in your life. And then once you finish that, what you would do is you would take the other 30 courses that are there for you and they're Short Courses or 45 Minute Life Skills courses that could help you. And this is a tool to help you just to get better for the betterment of yourself. And then I'll get into the transformational side and in a different podcast I just wanted to introduce us. The next step we would do is we, we created this AI. It's not chat GPT. We created all around mindset. So what we do is you would upload your assessment into our private area of our Healthy Mindset Coach AI and it's going to give you an entire system and program to follow. It's going to help you and lead you and then you could ask it to, hey, will you debrief my assessment and tell me really what I need? And like I said earlier, it's a scientific, validated assessment and it's an unbelievable tool. I've been using this for over 20 years. And the other thing, as well as the courses and the healthy Mindset course itself, you use the AI to talk to. Now it doesn't diagnose and we make claims that it's not a therapist. It's there to help you as a tool to help you in your everyday life. And then the healthy mindset coach AI is there for questions and answers, like having a mindset coach in your pocket at all time. Now, we're not out here to sell this. If any athlete that really can't afford the program, they could reach out. And we also have a special pricing for this program that I'm going to put actually into the show. Notes of this episode here of where you would go and you would apply again. The purpose is to help you. And the whole reason behind this is I know as a former professional athlete, when I retired from the sport and I probably should have quit a few years earlier than I did, in fact, I had an offer to go to Europe right when I was done and I didn't want to do that. But long story short, I moved to Charlotte, North Carolina and I was ready to retire from the game and figure out what was going to be next. And for me it was like, okay, really what do I want to do? And I love the personal development. I went back to school and got a bachelor's degree while I was playing in the minors. And in the summer I would take courses and ended up getting a bachelor's from a non accredited university. So what happened was it was an accredited school and then back in the day, like my kids would never know this. We had something called correspondence school. We had a primary mentor as a teacher and they would lead us through our classes and you would do it on your own and then you would have to take a test in front of a primary mentor. And again this, the school I was with became non accredited, but studying sociology and loved it, which probably led me to what I'm doing today, personal development. So this is all to help you. Like I said, I really struggled when I was done in a way where it's not about. It wasn't much of a financial struggle. It was more of a personal struggle. Like you're so used to getting up in the morning as a professional athlete, you go to the rink, you see your teammates, you grab something to eat, you're joking around, you have the camaraderie and the unity with your team. And then you play a game and you're frustrated, you get your frustrations out. I mean, what a great life to get paid to play a sport. Well, when I realized, when it was done, it was done. And I came to Charlotte, I mentioned earlier, I came here to North Carolina and they heard I was here, the Checkers, the Charlotte Checkers. And they said, would you like to be a player coach? And I said, not really. I came to retire from the game, but I actually ended up playing whenever they needed me. And I had so much fun my first year that I actually ended up going to Europe and playing in, in Germany thanks to my good friend Bob Halkitis, who I played on the Buffalo Sabres with. They said they, you know, they needed a forward that can kill pedal these over in Europe. And I didn't kill a lot in the NHL. I did kill a lot of pedal these in the minors and I went over there and it worked out great. Played in Cologne and I was over there. And at that time they, you know, the qualifying rounds from the World Championships were going on and I ended up getting a chance to. Playing in the qualifying rounds for the, for the World Championship and played on a line with Neil Broughton and Joey Mullen. And so sometimes the decisions you make, you never, you know, looking back and say, wow, what if I wouldn't have done that? It was such a great experience to play for my country for the, for the second time. So that's what life's all about. But when it's over, it's, it's over. It's like, wow, what do you do? And I just talked to an athlete just recently. I ran into somebody here in Charlotte and he told me that, you know, he asked me where I was from and I said, I'm from Michigan. And then, you know, my better half, she said she's from Buffalo. He says, oh, I played for the Buffalo Bisons. Next thing you know, he starts telling me how it's been 12 years since he has been playing and, and he misses it every day. And I said, I completely get it. So this is why I'm doing it now. Like I did say earlier, even the high school player, and I shouldn't say, even though I. Excuse me for saying that, the high school player. The reason I said even though is because everyone always focuses on the professional athletes. But the high school player that's played and they don't play anymore and they want to look back and they miss that camaraderie and that, you know, the ability to compete. So that's the whole, the same thing with them, the love of the game that they, that they had. So for me, my whole purpose is to help everybody, including. This is going to sound bizarre, but I play pickleball. I love pickleball. I was playing quite a bit, quite a bit of pickleball. And just, you know, just while I was playing, I had somebody come up to me and say, boy, I, I miss those. This, this is my, my freedom. This is my like my exit strategy. And every day getting away from the work and gets my mind off of things. But I like to compete and I say, well, why not make it for pickleball players too? Make it for all athletes. So that's my reasoning behind it. I'm sticking to it. Looking forward to leading you more down this life after sports. But again, it's gonna, you know, it sounds like kind of wishy washy what I'm gonna say, but the sports isn't over once you, you know, once you reach like I'm 58 years old, that doesn't mean it's over. But sometimes that compete level isn't there anymore. So yes, we may play pickleball or tennis and you want to compete, but we're not diving for balls unless I hope you don't. We want to keep you safe. I I'm looking forward to sharing more about this program and would love to help you. Any questions, Please go to healthymindsetapp.com reach out and also send you the link.
