Hi Mike, thank you so much for having me. Hi, I'm Marni April and I'm an intuitive and energy healer and a single mom working my way to living in the mountains in a more sustainable life. And I'm excited to talk to you guys about meditation. Meditation changed my life 30 years ago and I am super passionate about helping everyone out there get the benefits. And the benefits are so many, oh my gosh, from rebuilding your self esteem, from helping you love yourself, physical things like blood pressure and arthritis, gut health, there's so much, the list is endless of so many things. But one thing that so many people struggle with is how do I deal with my stress? How do I get calm quickly? People want it fast, fast and furious. And you can do that. There are things you can do with your breath. There are things you can do that are longer, but there are things you can do in the meditative world, so to speak, that are 60 seconds or less. And I this is something that I have just created for myself. I like simplicity. I can't do that. I can't do 500 steps when two will give me the same quality. I'm just about simplification. I don't want to lose quality, but I want the simplification. I learned to meditate when I was in treatment for bulimia. It was called relaxation therapy and it changed my life. I am, you know, we all learn things differently and you know, your innate way is, is there's one way, and you may learn the other ways. But, like, so for me, I'm definitely a visual and then a kinesthetic or feeler, like, I need to do it. Auditory is something that many years later in my life, I got better at the listening. Interestingly, that's been something I've worked on a lot. So if you lean towards a simple. And you want simple ways to do this, I want to give you three ways that you can look at how to do a simple mindful meditation practice. So if you're someone who leans towards visual, this is something. This was how I started. So I created a place in my mind that didn't exist. I had never been there. So it can be a place that does exist. It could be a person, it could be a pet, it could be a memory. It is something that you create in your mind or. Or you have a picture of right in front of you. So you can do this eyes open or closed. I learned eyes closed. But I do it both ways now. And set a timer, give yourself, you know, a minute and really focus on that person, place, thing, pet, whatever it is. And if you. If your mind kind of gets distracted and you start thinking about the bills and the list of the 25 things you need to do, it's okay. Just say, okay, I'll get to that in a second. And go back to what you were picturing. And you're just imagining this in your mind or imagining this as you look at, you know, or looking at a picture. And you focus on it. Now, there's another thing that I do in focusing it in my mind, and this one I typically do eyes closed. And it is what I call the happy word. And the happy word is. It doesn't matter what the word is. You can say it can be pretty much anything. It can be graphic, if you like that. It can be, you know, for me, the word right now is love. And you set your timer again and you just focus on that word. I close my eyes and I picture the word love. And I. Sometimes I color it. Sometimes it's cool cursive, sometimes it's calligraphy, sometimes it's block letters and what colors it is. And I just focus on that until the timer goes off. And you will notice that you feel different from when you started to when the timer goes off. Now, if you're auditory, so you're going to focus on sounds. So whether that be with your eyes open and you're sitting outside listening to the birds and just figuring out how many different birds can I hear in 60 seconds, in five minutes, whatever it is that you can give to yourself. And 60 seconds will make a difference that I can absolutely tell you. Maybe it's the beach, sounds of the waves, maybe it's a waterfall, maybe it's music. And there's just certain music or types of music that when you listen, soothe your soul. Any of it will work. If it speaks to you, it works. And that, that's all that's important. There's no rule. No one else gets to decide what works for you except you. Okay? Now, kinesthetic, if you are kinesthetic, it's going to be something you touch. I typically will go for a crystal or a rock, something that. Or some mala beads, if you know what those are. They're like prayer beads. And just rubbing and moving it around in your hand. So any of Those will work 60 seconds or less. The idea is you're getting back in touch with you, your body, your mind. You're grounded. You're just getting in touch with your breath. It's slowing you down. And it can help with so many different things. This is how I started because when I was bulimic, I had no self esteem. I didn't love myself, I didn't even like myself. I didn't like how I looked, you know, and we're all out there, so many of us are going, ugh. There's issues with my relationship. I don't like this or this about my body, I don't like this about my job. It's all this outward stuff. But the reality is the healing is that it's an inside job. And it's learning to love yourself, even if you love yourself now at a deeper level. And I'm constantly going deeper. Not constantly like every single moment of every single day, but throughout my life, even since the 30 years. And I love myself now. I love my body, I love my life. I continue to level up. It's just, it's just part of life. So if that's something that interests you and you want to know more, or if you even want my free 4 simple ways to activate calm, reach out to me. I'm on Facebook as Marnie April and I'm on instagram @marnie aprilintuitive. Or reach out to Mike and ask him how to get in touch with me. Mike, thank you so much.
