Now let's dive headfirst into this episode of the Healthy Mindset App podcast. Here's your host, Mike Hartman.
Go back to this. This is more for the workplace athlete that I call somebody that maybe you work in corporate America or you have a job or you're sitting by a desk all day, but I'm going to talk about physical movement. It refers to the act of using your body to engage various activities, exercises or motions. It's a fundamental aspect of human life and it plays a crucial role in maintaining overall health. The ability to move. It will help your well being, it will help you be more functional. And overall physical movement encompasses a wide range of activities. It could be from basic everyday walking or moving or exercising or going to a gym or playing sport. You may be a weekend warrior, but I'm going to give you some key aspects that I think you could work on that would really help you in your everyday life become more productive at what, at what you are doing. So everyday movements, I would say that's number one. Everyday physical movements include actions like walking, standing, sitting, sitting, bending, reaching and lifting. These movements are essential for performing daily tasks and maintaining mobility, which is so important in your life, especially if you're just sitting still. I'm going to talk about exercise and fitness. That doesn't mean you have to go to a CrossFit or go to a gym and pump iron. It could be, it could be engaging in regular exercise that's essential for maintaining physical fitness. Cardiovascular health, muscular health, flexibility. You could do exercise routines right at work activities outside of work as well. You could do little movements like little arm movements and or when you get home you could do some jogging if your body permits it. Make sure you talk to your healthcare professional to make sure you could do some of these things. Swimming is so good for you. I remember athletically that the Russians, pro athletes used to tell me that after they would train and they would have their training day, they would go in the pool because it's just, it's one of the best things that you could do. It's a little non impact. You know, you could lift weights if you think that will help you. Yoga or whatever is best for you. But it's important that you find some sort of exercising that you're able, able to do your cardiovascular health activities that increase your heart rate, like brisk walking, running, as I just mentioned, cycling, aerobic exercises. You know, this promotes cardiovascular health by strengthening the heart and improving blood circulation which, which you need. It's so important I don't have to tell you all the other effects that it's going to do to you. And so someone asked me once like, what is strength training? And is that like pumping iron? While strength chain involves resistant exercises to maintain muscle strength, it can include using weights or resistant bands or body weight exercises. Like if you ask me what a body weight exercises like a push up or squat, I do body, I do bodyweight training and band training, resistant bands and I do yoga and some other things. But for strength training it's those that I just listed. Now flexibility and mobility is super important. I just bought myself a stretch band off the Internet because I need to stretch more. Practices like stretching and yoga enhance flexibility, improve joint mobility, helping prevent injuries. So if you are a weekend warrior, the importance of stretching is key. Balance and coordination. I've been believing in balance since I was a professional athlete working on balance beam. But activities like challenging your balance and coordination, like Tai chi is so good. I have a friend, Scott Green Apple that practices that. He's constantly on the Internet doing that. People that if you dance. I used to work with Irish dancers. I worked with actually the number three Irish dancer in the world, Patrick Quinlivin. Such a great kid, I love working with him, but he taught me the importance of dance. Unfortunately I have two left feet. But you improve stability in your body control by doing that. And we talked about sports and recreation. Find a sport that you like. I know pickleball is a new big thing out there. So if some of you play pickleball, some of you might not like it. Might go hiking, play tennis, play basketball, you can include soccer, whatever. But do something that's going to keep you active and we talk. Someone asked me what is functional movement? Well, I like to mimic real life activities that help improve the body stability to perform everyday tasks. Like we have to bend over. If we drop something, you might have to bend over and pick it up. But make sure you bend your knees properly and you're doing it correctly. I see that's how people blow their backs out. You got to be very careful. Talk to your physician. I'm sure you can get exercises with some of these as well. Or we actually have some people in our community healthymindsetapp.com if anyone doesn't know about our community and you're new to us, go in there. We do have some people that are to play very high level sports. I think we have some athletic trainers in there as well and good group of people and that's what we do within our community. Posture is so important. Be mindful of your posture during various movements that can prevent strain, reduce the risk of, you know, musculoskeletal issues that you don't need your back and next thing you know your hips are going. So it's important to have good posture, be aware of it. And the mind body connection is the last thing I want to talk about. Many movement practice such as yoga, Tai chi as I mentioned earlier, is so good for you and I love it. I do this program which I can't really promote the company here on the podcast, but I just love them. I do their training every day. Actually I could tell you that I go into a hot sauna now. I don't know if it's for you, it's not for everybody. But even in the summer I'm in this hot sauna, infrared sauna and I do, they got, they have yoga, they have hot cycle for the bike. So you spin class while you're in the sauna, yoga bands, exercises, Pilates and I just love that. So I hope this has helped.
