Welcome to another episode. We're gonna still talk about the new year new you series, and I'm gonna go a little deeper this time with what I'm doing because I've had a lot of emails from a lot of our listeners, and they said, mike, what is your schedule? What do you do to train? Do you eat well? I know you've had some good people on your show. You talk about meditation, breathing, taking care of your body. If your body's not properly fueled, it will take down. So I'm going to go a little bit into my program. I'm going to tell you a little bit about the apparatuses that I use. I'm going to give you some mindset tips because as we talked about, everything is about stories, mindset and champions. And I think the people that tell stories, they use their mindset champions. They all have a plan, and you need that plan in place. And, boy, it was a tough 2020 for, for a lot of us. I could speak for myself. It. It was definitely difficult being isolated. You know, the first thing that was hard for me is when we were just living outside of New York City. You know, the mindset of not being able to go outside, because when it started there, that's where it initially hit. So we were just in Hoboken, New Jersey, which is 10 minutes to new York City. By, by the, you take the ferry across and you're in New York City. But as people remember, a lot of that was going on. We were in Jersey City, and that's where a lot of this started. So we were afraid to go outside. We were, we live right next door to a Starbucks, which did close for, for quite a while. And the grocery store was 100 yards away, and we couldn't even go in there. There was a line to get in, so we would go outside the. Just to do some of these things or we had to go to, like, you know, for a little walk. Like I said, we couldn't even go in the grocery store, so we had to wait in line. It only took so many people to go. You were limited on what you were allowed to do. So we ended up ordering from Whole Foods. So outside was so important. So what are the mindset tips for now? If you can. If you can get outside and just be fully present for with what you're doing out outside. This sounds as crazy as it sounds like. When I moved back to Charlotte, North Carolina I didn't realize how nice it was here. It's a beautiful place. I started listening to the birds chirp. My stress levels went down just naturally. I don't think I was really stressed in, in Hoboken, New Jersey or even going to New York City. But you don't realize it when you're around nature. And I take a walk on the greenway. So one of the mindset things that you can work on is try to be a little bit more. See if that will help you. Just a fresh air even if you can do your workouts outside. And I'm going to get into some of the workout things as well here in a few minutes. But outside is so important. The only thing that scared me about outside, I was walking outside here last week by myself on this greenway. It's like four miles of uninterrupted walking. It was great. I walk right on the greenway and what happened was I saw coyote stare at me. Didn't know if it was a wolf or coyote. So what do they say? Fight or flight? I don't even know what mode I was in. But anyways, being outside is so, so important for your overall health and also think about the process for your mindset. The process of what we do have a process in place. Processes are so important at the end of each day of the week. You know, take those emotions that you had, if you had some bad emotions and turn them around and re engineer it so you feel good. So create these little messages in your head or whatever you have to do. But the process in optimistic thinking is so important because we could always say bad things are. We're in the middle of this pandemic, things are bad. It's easy to sit here and say, but work on positive thoughts. So your process, as far as your mindset goes is very important. I always believe in reading and just reading a book, staying away from the computer. There's a lot of great books out there. There's a lot of helpful books that will help you even within your career, within your Life. Spend about 15 minutes every morning. Make it a ritual. We talk about these plans, rituals and measurable goals. Take time to read something that you enjoy, something that's going to reduce your stress, something that's going to have you at peace with yourself. Get in that mindset of just reading 15 minutes a day, some of us are readers. They read obviously a lot longer than 15 minutes. But just start with a little habit of focusing in on your reading. Now, one thing I always do is do research. So I'm going to give you a list of training programs to do today. I'm going to tell you where to listen to, to some of our guests that had some really good, good tips on how to take care of yourself. And a lot of our people have multiple degrees next to their name. They just don't have degrees. But they're smart, they understand it. And I would only bring them on a show because they are what I considered as a subject matter professional in that area, research it and even research some of the people that we have that come on, go. Self care to me is a mindset that is so important. Everyone says, well, what is self care? Well, really managing yourself, taking care of yourself. The craziest things like, you know, making yourself feel good, making sure that you're, you're really taking care of your body head to toe. You might laugh. I talked to some of the college kids that I, that I have done some work with. They don't brush their teeth right away in the morning. I mean, come on. So, so self care, I think you understand where I'm going with this is like a foundation of a healthy mindset. Managing yourself, especially if you're a leader, if you can't manage yourself, how are you going to manage other people? So really taking care of that self, self care. And I started doing this over the years. There's been many studies about meditation. There's been so many studies on it, how it could relax you even just a few minutes a day. And we've had some people on the show. You can go back and listen to some of our previous people that we've had. We've talked about meditation and breathing, reduce stress for anxiety. It really helps. It really works. These are some of these tools that have helped me and I think they could really help you. Now how I start my day, you know, so I have a plan in place. I'll just give you my schedule. That doesn't mean you have to follow this schedule. I know it works for me. I was fortunate as a professional athlete to have some of the best exercise scientists, dietitians in the world. I'm fortunate enough to be around some of these same people today as well as having dietitians and subject matter professionals in my life to help me. I believe we could always learn from others. So I start my day 5am I start with my Proto bite and I'll tell you a little bit about that. It's a liquid vitamin that just, it just tastes good and it absorbs through your body. It has that bioavailability and it just works for me. So for me the first thing I do is I get up at 5am well probably not the first thing, I don't have to tell you the first thing I do but the second thing I do is I have my protobite and then I start managing my self care after that. So after 5am I'm taking care of myself, I'm brushing my teeth, getting myself ready and I start my workout every day early because I know personally if I can't start my workout at 5:30 in the morning it ain't going to happen. I mean it's not going to happen because by the end of the day I'm tired or I just don't want to do it. I love getting it out of the way and then having my shower, get myself ready. So by 6:30 I'm telling you my schedule now all of us have a schedule. I walk my, my dog Sam, he's 16 years old, love him to death, I swear he's human, he understands me. I cuddle with them when no one's around. I talk to him like I'm talking to, to a human being and it's great. It's like my, my girlfriend said to me the other day we joked, we heard this like someone said man I, I can't live without you in 2020 but then I can't live with you. That's kind of, that's a little joke. But the truth is one thing about my dog is we can cuddle, we could be together, I could talk to him and he just wants to lay there and listen. It's fantastic. So that's my little ritual in the morning I start my every day off. I do have something. Is it the most healthiest thing? No. But with my breakfast I have a Starbucks coffee because I love it. That's my thing having that coffee. I love it. I also try other coffees so I'm not here promoting Starbucks but this is what I do. This is some of the ways I prepare for the day. I then journal, I journal what I try to journal every day, write down some affirmations, write down some different thoughts, do a little bit maybe in Facebook, go in there and do a post or trying to help people through our Facebook group. So that's just another tip on what I do in the morning, I'm preparing for the day. Then about 9 o', clock, I start my work. And I'm a performance leadership strategist. We have elearning courses. And then I get on with my day and then we do the podcast. Our podcast releases about once a week. So within that day, I would do the podcast. I take breaks, I walk jogs some days, and I add that into my program to get a little bit more deep into it. So the plan is like the New Year new you. So I brought on our registered dietitian, Cheryl Buckley. Now, Cheryl, you could listen to her with this new Year new you plan. She has multiple plans on helping you. I've been around her where her clients have lost 20, 30 pounds. They feel better in their genes, like myself. Now, I haven't necessarily lost a lot of weight, but this is the best I ever felt because I've incorporated some of these things that Cheryl added to my life. So if you listen to one of the previous discussion, discussions with Cheryl, she talks about ways to properly fuel your body. I've learned so much from her. Even go to her website, cherylbuckley.com and it will really help. Now another one of our episodes from the new year new you. This is a part of my plan is the physical freedom with gmb. Now, the reason I do this now I do one of their programs. I do the mobility program because I need, especially being a former athlete, my hips are tight. Sometimes I wake up, my back is sore. I have different ailments going on, and I make sure that I follow this program. The reason I had them on my show is they're not a sponsor. A friend of mine, his name is Joe Turso, he's a smart guy, a lot smarter than me. He went to Harvard in Wharton. He said, mike, I want you to watch these guys. This guy Andy, you got to see what he does. And he's in his jeans doing it. So you could do it at any time. And I see these things like they're balancing on their hands and they're in their air. I said, I can't do that. He goes, no, there's another part of what they do that is really good for mobility. And then you work your way up to that. So that's. I incorporate that into my workout now three days a week. And I have. I'm telling you, I'm not selling you. I'm not trying to, you know, I'm just sharing what I do. And I have never felt better. I ended up getting the program it's, it's not expensive and I use it because I use it for mobility. I use it for my core. And overall, I mean it's not just a linear, like basic thing where you're just doing like even just a push up. You're doing so many different movements now. I compliment that. And I recently found this group. I have a friend of mine in Greensboro, he says you need to try this T2 ISO trainer. And you can find all of these on the Hartman Academy because I made them in our resources. So people ever want to go to their website and look at it and I'm not, you know, am I promoting it? I promote what I believe in and this is how I trained because I have stayed away from weights now. Weights are not bad. You can complement all of this with weights if you like. But for me, my body has never felt better and I'm probably in the best shape of my life since I retired from professional hockey. So I do the ISO 2 trainer. It's like an isometric type workout with so many different resistant type movements that you could do. There's no free weights on it and they're right on our website. It's amazing. So my friend told me about this. I started doing some of the movements. You could do them for your legs. And the cool thing about this, it's not like a band, but it's like a, it's this thing moved. It's like one of the most effective, versatile fitness tools I've ever seen because you could move it so you could do an arm curl with it without hurting your elbows. There's just a lot of different ways to use this. It's not, it's a little bit different than like a resistant band. I mean you could do so many different things and you're not stationary, you're moving. And a lot of what we do today is movement. So I highly recommend that. And I mentioned it before. I take my protobite every day and now the protobite is something that I believe in. It's the quality of vitamins and minerals all through this rapid absorption. I'm not a dietitian, I can't even say it. I put this on my site for people to see. You can also, at any time you could check out our articles because we have many articles around some of this way. And I could tell you how I train. I also do, every now and then I'll do a HIIT program which I've written down. So I'm, you know, the number one thing you do is you know, what do they say? You know, consult your physician before doing any of this stuff. But seriously, it's, it's how I do it. I have never felt better. I feel more agile. It also, it helps me overall. By the time I'm ready to go to bed. And we didn't talk about sleep, but our dietitian does in, in her episode how important sleep is. Because I can't be an expert in all these areas. I'm just sharing with you the plan, what I do for the New year new you. If anybody has any questions, please reach out. We want to help you. Or you go to Hartman Academy. You go into the contact us area and you can ask me questions. I could send you links on it. We want to help you. We could even put you through some of our playbooks if that helps. And we really appreciate everybody listening and being a part of it. And our goal is to have you become your personal professional best everybody. Great new year new you. That's my plan. I'm sticking with it. Have a great day.
