Welcome back to another episode. And today I'm doing this podcast right from my car. So if you hear airplanes flying above or you hear people slamming the door or if you hear anything or even people arguing, I just heard a door slam. Come on. You're not supposed to slam the door when I'm doing a podcast. But I do want to get through these podcasts again. I do have the fancy equipment out of our studio, which is my home studio, but I also use my iPhone, which I think works just as well. So we have a question today, and one of the questions is, how do I break bad habits? Well, one thing I could share with you is, you know, you hear all these different things about bad habits, like how many people. Let's just start with New Year's resolutions. And the reason why people have these New Year's resolutions is because they were probably in. They put themselves in some pretty bad habits themselves. They did things that, you know, created bad habits, like they stopped exercising, which we're going to talk about in a second, or they stopped taking care of themselves. So they say, okay, I have this New Year's resolution. I'm gonna do it. I'm gonna follow through. And they get a gym membership and they might never go. Or they're gonna start something and they don't do it. Or they get all excited about it and do it. A couple times. They order a peloton and they've been on it two times. This may be you, it may not. But one thing I could say about, you know, habits is you have to work on yourself. You have to take care of yourself. You're going to be back in that New Year's resolution, not really completing what you're set out to do. So three weeks, people say to work on yourself. And it takes time. It just doesn't happen overnight. It takes time to do that. You have to work on yourself. You hear these different things. Well, it takes 21 days to break a habit, but it takes 90 days to practice it. Maybe, I don't know. I can go with that. But one thing I believe is practicing mindfulness. And I repeat that quite a bit. You probably might say, you know, I've heard him say this before, but the ability to be fully aware in the present moment and some of the things that you could do to break those habits, just be in that moment and say, okay, I'm going to do it right now. And I have some tips for you that you could use to be in the moment to break some habits here in a second. So like I said, one of the things that people are doing, they're just not taking care of themselves. And if I think about certain things, we talk about fitness and fitness is important for so many reasons. Taking care of yourself. Some people say, I don't have the time to do it, but I'm going to give you a couple fitness tips that you can do to take care of yourself. Example is if you don't have time to go to a gym and you do have time throughout the day of 3 minutes, 2 minutes, 30 seconds, this is what you could do. This might not work if you are in a suit or in business casual clothes, but it may work as well. So one thing that you could do is you could be sitting at your desk for a long time. Number one thing I would do is I would get up, go for a walk. If you're sitting at the desk for two hours, your hips, your back, everything's going to get tight. I remember I took a drive from Charlotte to Hilton Head, sat in the car for four hours. We, I think we stopped once along the way. My hips and back were, were killing me. Like I felt it for like three or four days because I'm so used to being active and moving. So the important thing is to move is to walk. But also, you know, if you have time and you have to talk to your physician to see if this fits into your schedule, or you could do this, but take a walk and do 10 squats and then go back to the desk and then you could do some wall push ups. Just the important thing is to break that habit of being isolated and just sitting still. So we've mentioned so many times the importance of sleep. And sleep is so important. These are the same things we continuously mention. I think it takes many times for people to retain certain things. It could take, I don't know, the average person could retain only 10% of what is being told. But your sleep is so important and how you break habits of these, like not getting enough sleep. One of them could be, is that blue light. You've heard it from so many different people. It's the same thing. But that's true. You look at that blue light and not only that, I was at fault for this. Recently I looked at the phone. I fell asleep early, like at 8 o' clock on the couch. That's a bad habit. All of us have bad habits, right? So I fell asleep, 8 o'. Clock, I think I got up at 11. Now I felt like I just, I can go, probably go, run, go, go do a full training program. And I'm laying in bed and I finally pass out again around 1am and then I get up again. My body just. I woke up and what did I do? I look at my phone, I'm looking at my emails. And there was an email there that didn't sit well with me. Nothing bad. I mean, nothing too bad, but it just didn't sit well. So what happens now? I'm reading this email and. And it's on my mind. Oh boy, I got to worry about this tomorrow. I can't wait to get up. And now what happens now? You're going to lose more sleep and you're not going to be able to function. And that's a bad habit. Another one is negative self talk. These are the same things that I've said throughout different podcasts. You keep telling yourself how bad you are, you're going to be bad. But if you believe in yourself, you believe that you can make it happen no matter what it is, and you could do it. In fact, someone just shared a book with me, Bruce Hershot. Bruce, I know you listen to this show. You shared a book with me. I'm not going to. I have to read the book first. I read. One of my good habits is I listen or read about two books a month, sometimes three. And if I have more time, sometimes more than that. I love to, even now that I'm in my car, a lot more. I love to listen to audio. Like audio, either audio, podcast or audible. I love to listen to that. But, Bruce, I'm gonna not mention this book yet, but it's talking about how to always be positive and I'm gonna learn that. And I don't know if that's possible, but working on yourself is so important. So negative talk is going to set you back. Even if it's like, oh my gosh, I have a big meeting tomorrow and what am I going to wear? I don't look good in this, I don't look good in that. You're going to not look good. But if you say, you know what, they don't really care. As long as I'm fully mindful, I'm fully in the moment. I'm present and it's supposed to be fully present without judgment. But yeah, people do judge us. But right, who cares? Sometimes what we do is we put the solution ahead of the problem. So some of our bad habits are because we're so stressed out. We are so stressed. How do we get stressed? Well, we're stressed because we didn't do all the things that I mentioned above. And I believe if you work on some of these things, it will definitely help you. It will help you in your everyday life. It will help you in your business life. If you're an athlete, no matter what it is, you have to take care of yourself. The reason why I'm doing some of these podcasts from the car is because I'm doing a new system and I want to get in all of these answers. I hope I've answered your question for you of ways to get out of a bad habit. I'm sure you've heard you've heard some of these before, but it's it never hurts to hear them again. As well as hey Bruce Hershot, I'm going to find out more about that book. I'm going to do some research into it and thank you for sharing. Can't wait to read it.
