Now let's dive headfirst into this episode of the Healthy Mindset App Podcast podcast. Here's your host, Mike Hartman.
You know, one of the first things I learned as a professional athlete back when I played is that the mind and body are one. So a lot of times we think that the mind and body are different. So when somebody would ask me, what percent of sports is mental? I would say 100%. What percent of sports is physical? 100%. And I've always stuck to that. I've learned this, boy, back in 1986, that many years ago when we were working with sports psychologists, when I was playing for the Buffalo Sabres. And that's when we started learning meditation and visualization and imagery and so many things that led me to what we're doing now in our community. That's why we have over 300 different audios and tools that we use to help you whether you're an athlete or workplace athlete. And even the one of the assessments we have is the mind score and body score that's together, including your environment score, your relationship score, your emotions score, your being present score, and your stress tolerance score. It all is one. So when we look at this, I didn't want it to be confusing for people, but the purpose and objective was to look at everything as one. So, you know, when you think about sports or even in everyday life or you're working in the workplace, the mind and body are one. It really encompasses the same thing. The mental focus, your concentration. You know, we talk about having a pot of positive mindset that directly affects your physical performance, just like it does in the workplace. It really goes hand in hand. And I really wanted to be clear on this because we get a lot of people even within our community asking many different questions around this. And this is something that just takes me back so many years and it's even talked about more today. So if you look at the mental and the physical aspects, think about it going hand in hand to improve your peak performance. So we look at focus and concentration. You know, a sharp mind enhances the ability to focus on what needs to be done for decision making within your, within your sport, within the office, any of that. Coordination. Right. We always talk about coordination in sports, but mental clarity contributes to coordination. We're using our body for that. Allowing like athletes and workplace athletes to execute precise movement and techniques. That's all around the same thing. We say, well, what about motivation and drive? Well, yeah, strong mindset fuels motivation. When you do different things, like something that motivates you to exercise or doing different, like we talked about movements, that's going to help you, it's going to help your mind, body. I talked about the emotional control and managing emotions positively will impact your physical performance. Emotions are the intrinsic. That's what we get through our assessments, the intrinsic and the extrinsic. I don't want to get a little bit too deep on that. I mentioned visualization, learning that back in the day. So mental imagery helps the athlete in the workplace. Athlete just help you with your memory and helps you stay focused. And when you're exercising, you'll even have so much more to give. And that's where visualization comes in saying, okay, I'm going to visualize myself doing X, Y and Z. That's still visualization. And these tools will definitely help you. I want you to think about strategic thinking. So a sound mind aids strategic planning and decision making. It also helps with overall your individual performance. We're performing. That's the physical side, adaptability. So mental flexibility enables athletes to adapt to changing situations and the workplace too. You're adapting to it so you could use your body in different challenges. So there's so many different areas here that we can go so deep into this. This is what we do in our community, the healthy mindset for athletes and workplace athletes. So it's healthy mindsetapp.com and we go deep and we have many tools for you, including audio debriefings on the seven dimensions of total wellness. We also have it for the ready to play assessment, the change readiness assessment for the workplace athlete, as well as ongoing live group coaching and Q and A. And it's a place just to overall develop your skills and your mind and body skills. And we're here to help you. And I just thought I would bring this out and do a very short podcast on this because people question it. They say, well, I don't get it. How could it be 100% and 100%? Because it is. It's 100% mental, it's 100% physical. And you have to do both of these to maximize your performance. So any questions, please reach out, go to healthymindsetapp.com and love to help you.
