Welcome to another episode. Today we are on the topic think tank, and I have a friend of mine who is also a mindset coach. She's into cooking. She has a lot of energy. Her name is Stephanie McPherson. Stephanie, how are you today?
I am doing doggone fantastic, Mike.
That's awesome.
Excited to be here?
Yeah, no, I'm excited to have you. We. We've. We've talked many times. I know the passion you have for mindset, and we tell everybody this is unedited, it's not scripted, and there's no better person than you because I know you're not afraid to speak your mind. We have to maybe tone it down a little bit. Just kidding.
Absolutely not.
So share your definition of what mindset is.
Okay, so mindset. Every single human being on the planet has a mindset, but the importance or how that's relative to what we're speaking about today is, is your mindset creating manifest in the life that you truly desire? And so I like to tie mindset to heart set. Okay. And heart set is. Is directly related to your deep inner core values. Are you living your life, and is your life a reflection of your inner core values? Does that make sense?
No, it does. Now I know, like. Like something I know as an athlete, for me, we had the mindset of preparing. Now I know for you, your passion is cooking. You've done cooking shows. What is your mindset going in? Because I know you have to prepare. Right? So part of that mindset is, is it preparing for, like, your cooking show and what you're doing?
So. Yeah, so, so relative to, like, my cooking show, I have a cooking show and it's called Def frickin licious. And the point of the extra oomph when saying it's not frickin, which frickin is two syllables as well, but far Rickin, it's because my food is so delicious, because it's healthy. It's healthy food that's so delicious. It's defa frickin licious. But my passion behind the concept of my cooking show is to inspire people to see the value of. Of eating healthfully. Because most time, oftentimes healthy food is associated with bland and just overall, you know, all around not tasting very good. Okay, so, but if you're enjoying the food you're eating, if it's a pleasurable experience, then you're more likely, you know, to want to, you know, put in maybe the extra work or spend a little extra money or spend a little extra, you know, time in creating something that, you know is nourishing your body and it's good for your body as opposed to just running through the, you know, the, the drive thru at McDonald's or a fast food place or, or just throwing something easy and simple in the microwave. So my passion with D4 or through D for Rick and Licious, more should I say, is to inspire and empower people to want to eat healthy. Wow, man, this girl number one, she's hilarious. Like, look at this crazy energy on, you know, here on camera. And so she's entertaining and, and wow, I love to watch her cook. And I'm, I'm obtaining new ideas about what is possible in preparing healthy food that, you know, that it, that it can be pleasurable, that I can enjoy it and then knowing I'm doing something good for myself, you know, and if I'm sharing my food with other people.
Right. It's so much easier to, to do something right. Like that you love.
Absolutely.
It gets you up in the morning. So, so you love to cook, you love to work with people on their mindset, you love to use that energy. And where does the mindset come in? Does it, is it just like, how do you prepare yourself? How are you excited every day? Because I know you've had some ups and downs.
Oh, absolutely. Everybody has. I mean, the mindset is about what is. Again, I'll tie that back to core values, which is, you know, and then how you're living, your heart set, your heart set in your mindset combined. So, you know, I've been doing this my entire adult life, Mike. And it was through in my early 20s, you know, going to college and thinking I wanted this or thinking that I wanted this or that type of career, but realizing what I'd been doing for myself through health and wellness. And I bought the book the Empowered Mind and started answering the plethora of questions within that book. And that's where I really learned that I had a true passion for wanting to empower people to live based upon their core values. So I live based upon my core values. So if my core values are all about being in that state of living my worth and living my value, what am I doing when I first Wake up. I have, you know, tools and practices in place or places, or should I say practices in place based upon tools I've learned and taught myself about how to start your day. If you're starting your day, for instance, start your day in a state of gratitude. Gratitude. Even if it's grateful for wow, I'm grateful for my bed. Wow. And feel. And it's about feeling and being in that state of gratitude. Starting your day with practices that, that then enable you to have that mindset that's elated, that's excited to carry out and take on your day. But say, let's say you wake up and you're like, oh God, this day is going to suck. Wow, I've got this to do. I've got that to do. Instead of what you've got to do, think about what you get to do. Wow. I get to go downstairs and squeeze fresh lemon and spring water. That's the first thing I do when I get downstairs, you know, into my kitchen as I'm squeaming, squeaming, squeaming, squeezing fresh lemon. And then, you know, in my water I'm taking, you know, drinking some water and then I'm, you know, I drink bone broth every day that I have made myself, you know, with grass fed bones and lots of vegetables and nutrients and spices. And then I'm doing that with squeeze of fresh lime and then I'm eating a fresh, you know, a healthy breakfast. A lot of people, oh, I don't have time. Well, you know, time is relative. And again, it's about seeing your worth and value. And this is something I want to hit on. You know, mindset is everywhere. Your mindset is either, you know, poor or piss poor or victim or life is happening to me or it's life is happening through me and I am in charge. I have the power, you know, to create my life and to live in that state of joy. Joy and thriving, prosperity, abundance, love. It's our birthright. But it's a choice. It is a choice. And oftentimes so many people through, you know, as you, as you mentioned before, you know, I've had some pull out the rug from under me situations and. But at the end of the day, because I've had this heart set relative to my core values and I've been living my passions and my dreams and to me life is exciting. I run towards life with open arms.
I love that.
You know what? Go ahead, Stephanie.
One thing I want to share with you is like one thing. So you've Been knocked down a lot.
Yes.
Then you get back up and you get knocked down and you get back up. That's all mindset, right? That's part of your.
It's about what's important. And again, it's important for me to live a life in which I am in a, you know. And no, we can't be in a state of joy. I mean this isn't frou frou, you know, kind of talk here. This is I, because I did this so young that. And it's carried over throughout my life. You know, for instance, when I had the last. And I'll just describe it. Let's just hypothetically. This is a metaphor, you know, like a, an analogy here I'm driving a thousand miles an hour in an extremely, very excited car slam right into a wall that is mentally and physically what that, what with what had happened through. Not to me that, that. I mean I was. Suffered anxiety, I suffered depression. But every single day that did not change how I executed my every single day. I still got up and I, you know, lemon water, bone broth, healthy breakfast, back for like a year. I remember seeing the documentary. One of the best documentaries I highly recommend watching is Look Mom, I Can Fly. It's a documentary about Travis Scott and it's one of the most inspiring documentaries about a guy who truly had this, I mean deep core heart centered passion all his life since he was a child to be, you know, this successful rapper. And just. Anyway, so it was just amazing. It's an amazing documentary. Look mom, I can Fly. I would get up every day and I would say, hey Google, play Travis Scott.
Wow.
Hey Google, stop. But anyway, I would start my day because I was so inspired. Hey Google. Hey Google, stop. I would start my day and dancing, dancing because I had to do something to lift my energy. I was personally responsible. I took personal responsibility for my. For overcoming and getting through the depression and the anxiety, whatever it took and whether through meditating daily writing again, still steadfast on my goals and my passions of what I want in life. Because you know, my ultimate dream, one of the biggest dreams is to be hosting cooking shows, hosting multiple shows, you know, through the Food Network on the Food Network. And I haven't, I've never lost sight of that because I know I'm worthy of that. I know that's where I belong.
Well, you're taking those steps. I've seen we've known each other for a while. I posted this out there for the think tank is really letting people express themselves.
Yes.
And one of the main reasons why I'm doing this think tank, nobody has really asked me, but I've had, I have a lot of so called big names on, on the show, a lot of athletes because that was my background. But we're all unique in our own way. And I remember this thing I really wanted to be about you. So I'm going to tell this really quick story because a lot of what we learn is through stories. But I used to walk by this guy's house every day where I used to live, long time ago, let's say. And I walked by and he ignored me. And I walked by again, I said hello. He ignored me like he was too good for me. Then I walked by again and I saw something that we had in common and I gave him my card. And this was back in New York City and. Or Hoboken, sorry, seven minutes from New York City. And then when he saw that I had a podcast and then he saw that, oh wow, you played for the Rangers. I remember you because he had a New York Yankees thing on his driveway and a Ranger thing. So I said, hey, do you listen to podcast? I just had a tanning sturts on from the Yankees. I've had Art Shamsky on from the Yankees. Then he was my friend. I'm saying, wait a second, was I now because I played a sport, do you, you like me? So I have to have. We talk about mindset. That's still the mindset way. So wait a sec, does someone just like me because I did something? So I think it's fair that we have people like the Stephanie McPherson's and the people out there that have dreams and they're doing whatever they can to make it. Because I believe, I talk to people in corporate America about this, that it's easier being an athlete than it is working in corporate America because we have to perform every day. We have to be on, eat well, sleep, do all this. But we have three or four months off in the summer and we're only. We have to be really on. I mean, I played like seven minutes a night, sometimes 13 minutes a night where some people have to be on all day. Now, yes, we prepare before, but I think the mindset for someone just trying to make it is tough. So that's a big reason why I'm doing this, Stephanie.
Right? And you know what, Mike? It's tied to your why. And this is something. This is. I want to drive this point home as fervently and passionately as I can. If. And it's the concept. If Anything is possible for anyone. Anything is possible for anyone. Anyone.
Absolutely.
Oprah is where she is. She was told that she would never make it in, like, media, really. But again, she had such a heart set. Her heart. Her. Why. Why do you. I know exactly why I want what I want. I know what I want, and I know why I want it. And that is the most important thing. And I know you tell a story. It's my favorite story of, you know, being in high school, I believe. And your music. Your music teacher asked you, you know, we're asking the class, what do you want to do when you grow up? And you stood up, you said, I want to play in the NHL. And he looked at you and he said, no, you. Do you understand how many millions of boys want that? Want to do that? You can't do that. And you. And you said, no, you can't do that. And let me explain something here. Yeah, he could do that, but he doesn't have the heart set or the mindset for it. He has the heart set and the mindset to be a music teacher, and there's nothing wrong with that. There's everything right with that. That's his journey. But you had the heart set and the mindset, and that's why you did play in the NHL. That's why you. Y' all went to the Stanley Cup. You won the Stanley cup, or. I don't even know how to say it, went to the Super. The Super Bowl. You know what I mean? But it's like, again, it's not just some, oh, yeah, I want to be famous, or, oh, I want to. You know, there's real fervent. Like, I played restaurant when I was a kid. I played restaurant with my mama. I've loved cooking. My grandma inspired me to cook when I was a little girl. You know, I've always loved cooking all my life. And then in my early 20s, of course, is when all of a sudden I couldn't just eat as much, you know, as I wanted, and as much of it as I wanted, you know, McDonald's and Pizza Inn. I mean, I had the typical young person diet, but all of a sudden, I couldn't just do that without the undesirable, you know, physical consequences. So that's when I started the journey to health and wellness, and I saw what it was doing for me, and I see so many unhappy people. And again, mindset, you know, the healthy cooking and the healthy eating and the exercise, that comes when you realize your worth and value. That's just a byproduct Mindset, you know, and this is the point I really want to drive home is like, you know, your mindset creates your reality. And if you are not living in a state where a state of joy is frequent, a state of being, not getting, but being happy isn't a frequent part of your reality. You know, ask yourself why. I mean, do you know? So I have a course. It's called empower your mind. Empower your.
I'm gonna ask you about that. I want you to. I love to hear. That's what I. We're gonna wrap it up and tell us where they could learn, because I know your course is amazing. I'm going to talk about that in a minute. We're going to wrap it up here. But where can they see your information to get this course? Because I'm going to recommend your course. So where can they.
It's so. I mean, it's through a teachable platform, but I don't think that's what you're asking. It's. Well, I have a link. I mean, I'll provide the link to the course, but what I. I was trying to tie that in to what I did for myself through that book, the Empowered Mind. The Empowered Mind was not the only book I've ever read on. I like to call it personal growth, self awareness. They used. It used to be called self development or self improvement. Sorry, Self improvement. Back in the day when I first, you know, back in the 90s. But it's been a lifelong journey and it will continue to be part of my journey. There is more. I have. I have so much more that I can. That I have access to as I. Because we continue to grow throughout our life. Because if you're not growing, you might as well die. I mean, be dead. Not. You know what I mean? Not literally.
Listen, Stephanie, you and I could talk for. I mean, your energy is.
I am tying. I promise I'm tying. Okay. But I'm tying this into. That's how you learn what your mindset and your heart set are. Is by asking yourself those basic questions. How many people do you know if you ask them? So tell me 10 things that are awesome about you.
Yeah, they can't do it.
Yeah, a lot of people tell me, tell me 10 things that are awesome about your life. And that's what my course. It's the basics. Because you've got to understand who you are. You got to go into the depths of who you are to figure out what you want and why, where your fervent passion is, where your heart set where you're. That creates your mindset, that then creates your life. And that's why I was tying in.
Where can we get your course to wrap it up? Where can they get it? Is it live? Is it on your website?
It's absolutely live. So it's a link I will provide. Do you have the show notes? I can provide a link to my course.
Okay, we'll do that. We'll put it in the show notes. I want to wrap it up saying, you gotta.
I know you've only got a certain amount of minutes.
Well, we have tremendous. That's okay. You got a tremendous amount of energy. We usually, we keep them short and sweet. The think tank is. But that, that's good. You know, you bring a lot of energy. You're very passionate. Keep it going. And if anybody wants to reach out, go to Hartman Academy, go into the contact us area and then even message me and I'll get you Stephanie's information. So it's Hartman Academy and we would love to help you if you're. If you want any information about Stephanie, I will then forward it on. Stephanie, thank you so much for being here today.
