What if I told you I truly believe the new class of weight loss medication, GLP1s are the new treatment or will be the new treatment for eating disorders. I know this is super controversial, but I want you to bear with me and like listen to the dialogue. Tell me your thoughts below. But I've been doing our weight loss program using these medications at Modern Thyroid Clinic for over a year and a half now. I started out very open minded. I had sent patients to use them elsewhere for almost a year before I even started our program. And especially in the hypothyroid community where people cannot lose weight with effort, meaning they can eat well and exercise and still not lose weight. These medications have been profoundly life changing and allowing them to lose weight, but also healing their metabolism so that when they come off of these medications they're able to maintain their weight. Some of them continue to lose weight without the medication. All of that's amazing. Yes. The number one thing that I didn't expect when I created this program was for the most profound and common response to the program being this has healed my relationship with food. And so what ends up happening with women, especially as we age, but even some young women, the effort that we put in to losing, maintaining being healthy weight, all the things does not yield the appropriate outcome. So slowly over time, our brains become hardwired that food is bad. When we eat, it's bad. If we deviate from a perfect diet, we're a failure. Every time we eat, we feel guilty and that creates disordered eating. And what these medications do is they allow a reframing in your mind that food is not bad, that every time you eat you're not going to gain five pounds for going on vacation, that you'll never lose, that food is not always going to make you feel inflamed, that you don't feel like a failure when you eat, food does not have so much power over you. And what happens is every time our neurological connections reaffirm those thoughts, our disordered eating pathway in our brain gets weaker and weaker and our healthy relationship with food pathway in our brain gets stronger and stronger. And what ends up happening is the switch of disordered eating flips off. So I found that happenstance in the program. I'm a data analyzer. That's what makes me really good at my job. That's how we've perfected thyroid treatment at Modern Thyroid Clinic. But I've done the same thing with our weight loss program. So I've had three patients now with an actual eating disorder and obviously this is a case by case basis. Obviously, this goes without saying. We have intense conversations about risks and benefits and alternatives. I've met with someone's family before making this decision, but one of them was so severe with an eating disorder, she had been an inpatient. And y', all, all three people have come back and said, I've never felt so much food freedom. I feel sorry. Oliver interrupted me. I feel like my relationship with food is healed. Food and this disordered thinking pattern. No. Have no longer have power in my life. Do you know how incredible that is for women? And there is not much in the realm of eating disorder treatment that even holds a candle to that effect. I want to know your thoughts. Tell me what you think below.
