Short YouTube monologue (by McCall McPherson) rebutting the claim that GLP-1 weight-loss medications intrinsically cause muscle loss. The speaker argues muscle wasting on these drugs is caused by under-eating (especially low protein), extreme caloric restriction, and lack of resistance training, and that with adequate protein, micronutrients, and weightlifting people on GLP-1s can maintain or build muscle.

Honestly, can we just stop saying that? GLP1 Weight loss medications create muscle loss and muscle wasting. Like, can we end this conversation? Do you know what causes muscle loss and muscle wasting on these medications? When people are overdosed on them, they are not eating food, they are not eating protein, they are not taking care of their bodies. So guess what happens? People lose muscle mass. Like, it is not rocket science. You know what doesn't happen when people eat protein, eat healthy, lift weights on GLP1s. They gain muscle. Because the same thing happens irrespective of the GLP one. If you're not eating protein, you're not lifting weights. You're calorically restricted to extremes. You're losing muscle. If you are getting your micronutrients, macronutrients and lifting weights, you are not magically, radically losing high amounts of muscle. Like, it's not real. Stop believing what people are saying online. Like it is fabricated. And of course people are losing muscle if they're not eating food and lifting weights. Like, we got to end this conversation. Like, be realistic. Because the reality is people in our weight loss program are building muscle all day, every day, but they're putting in the work.
