In this lecture the speaker examines whether Allah holds a person accountable merely for sinful thoughts or intentions. He cites the Qur'anic verse “إن تبدوا ما في أنفسكم أو تخفوه يحاسبكم به الله” and explains that the companions feared being judged for inner thoughts, prompting them to ask the Prophet (peace be upon him) for clarification. The Prophet’s response “سمعنا وأطعنا” is presented as an affirmation of obedience without inner rebellion. The speaker then references the Qur'anic principle “لا يكلف الله نفسا إلا وسعها” to argue that divine accountability is limited to actions within a person’s capacity. Finally, a hadith from Ibn Abbas is quoted, indicating that if a person entertains a sinful intention but does not act on it, Allah records it as a good deed, highlighting divine mercy and the reward for restraining oneself.
