Ndubuisi Egwim explains how doctors claim 20% or 40% tax relief on pension contributions and why staying under the £60,000 annual allowance matters. Exceed it and HMRC penalizes you. Unused allowance carries forward, and you can check your pension values through NHSBSA or your ESR Total Reward Statement.

Of course you have to factor in tax relief because if you are going to get 20 tax relief or 40 tax relief, you have to deduct it from the money you are putting into the SIP so that you don't exceed it. The HMS is quite harsh. When you exit it, there's a penalty and I've seen that happen to a lot of senior doctors and I say I'd rather get to 57k or 58k than trying to get the 60k and then exceed it.
Yeah. So this.
I hope that helped.
This closing value and opening value, is it a bit complicated to work out from the trs? You have to get your statement from nhbsa, is it?
You can get the statement from NHBSA or you can get it from your electronic records. So yeah, because we walked through this step with many consultants. So the esr, you can walk through it to download your total reward statement. Then you see your pension contributions, you see what was your pension benefits. Under the pension benefits, you can see the closing, you can see what your pension was, the pension benefit for that taxi and then get that from a previous year. So that I can then have the opening value and the closing.
Value for.
The pension period they are looking at. But don't Forget, you have 60,000 times three. If you've not used up the previous taxes, you have more allowance that you can actually go back to.
