In this brief video, Dr. Ndubuisi 'Andy' Egwim, author of The Moneywise Doctor, explains recent UK ISA rule changes. The government has reduced the cash ISA allowance from £20,000 to £12,000 to push savers toward investing. The stock‑and‑shares ISA allowance remains at £20,000, but a new rule will tax any cash held uninvested inside a stock‑and‑shares ISA at 22% starting April 2027. To retain the tax‑free status, the full £20,000 must be invested in qualifying assets. Dr. Egwim stresses the importance of tax‑efficient investing and promotes his July SCRUBS workshop—focused on tax‑efficient investing for doctors—inviting viewers to comment “scrubs” for a registration link.

So just a quick one, stock and shares ISAs are changing. The government has changed the rules again. It's Dr. Andy Egwim here, author of The Moneywise Doctor, which is a bestseller on investing and personal finance. So what's this about? Just a couple of days, the government announced that they were now going to be taxing cash left uninvested in stock and shares ISA. Now, ISAs have not been taxed in the past, and you could save up to £20,000 in your stock and shares ISA or put it in your cash ISA But last year, towards the end of last year, the government announced that they were reducing cash ISA allowance from £20,000 to £12,000 in order to encourage more people to invest. But very importantly, there was no change in the stock and shares ISA. So stock and shares ISA, you could still put in as much as £20K. So some people thought, well, I found a backdoor. I'm just going to put the cash in my stock and shares ISA, and that way I don't have to pay any tax on it. But now the government has changed the game. You can still put £12,000 from April 2027. You can put £12,000 in your cash ISA, but for your stock and shares ISA, you can put £20K as long as you invest it. If you have money in your stock and shares ISA you don't invest, the government is planning to charge 22% on it from April 2027. Now, tax-efficient investing is not something we can afford to ignore, and this July I'm going to be addressing a lot of that in our SCRUBS workshop. So it's SCRUBS, tax-efficient investing for doctors. If you want to attend, just comment scrubs and I'll send you the link to come along.
