Short YouTube advice video by Ndubuisi 'Andy' Egwim (May 14, 2025) targeted at doctors and dentists who lose money investing. Andy frames typical large losses (e.g., £100,000) as usually caused not by the specific asset but by three failings: (1) no understanding of the investment, (2) no financial/investment-education or method, and (3) no risk-management plan (no diversification, asset allocation, or rules to define losses/wins). He offers a linked investment risk-score tool used by thousands of doctors as a next step.

Almost every single day I come across a doctor or dentist who's lost money investing. And it's usually because of one of these three mistakes before I dive in. I'm Dr. Andegwim. I've been an investor for 21 years now. I'm a former salary JP and investing. And also my business helped me leave my salary job as a JP three years ago. So what are the three top mistakes doctors make when it comes to investing? Whenever I hear someone say, I lost £100,000 because I invested in this, or I lost 60,000, 20,000, it's not usually because of what they invested in, it's usually because of these three main key issues. One, the investor did not understand what they were investing in. So there was no investment education in the first place. You go into what you don't know, just like you're a surgeon. If you're not trained properly, if you're not trained to be a surgeon and you go into the operating theater, of course it's going to be disastrous. The only thing is that you're not able to get into the theater in the first instance as such, because there are regulations. But in investing, no one stops you from losing your money. Number two, usually investing without any sort of financial education. You see, people go into investing, they don't even understand that there's a method, there's an approach to it, depending on what type of approach you invest, whether you're a passive investor, active investor, value investor, and they just go into it. And then number three, there's usually no risk management in place. There was no plan, there's no way to protect the downsides. You know how the rule is, Rule one is don't lose money. And rule two is don't forget rule one. So there's no approach, there's no risk management, there's no diversification, there's no asset allocation, and there's no clear plan to decide what is a loss and what is the win. And so you see, that's how people lose a lot of money in investing. Well, if you want to know your risk score, check your investment risk score. I've got a link below.
