AI gives you hours back every week. Most people's first move is to fill those hours with more work.

Justin R. Lester argues that AI frees up hours each week, but most people immediately fill them with more work. The real opportunity is choosing what those hours become: rest, spiritual practice, or better serving others. It's about stewardship, not just efficiency.

AI can save you hours upon hours upon hours a week, and I always wondered why people don't see that as an advantage and want to fight something that can really help you. Then it hit me. If you don't value your time, you're not going to value the time that you get back. And that's the reason why the moment AI begins to save you time, you fill it with content, more work, more things to do. Maybe the challenge with AI is to make a plan for the time you're going to save. What are you going to do with another 10 hours a week? What are you going to do another 15 hours a week? What are you gonna do another 30 hours a week? What is your first thought about that? Are you immediately gonna add more work? Are you gonna rest? Are you gonna be still with God? Are you gonna take time to be with the Lord? What are you going to do with the time you save? What are you gonna do with the time that God gives you back? Maybe that's the place to start with artificial intelligence, and then we begin to think about automation and culture. Because if your first thought with AI is firing people, you're not using it right. If your first thought with AI is how you can get rid of other people's jobs, You're not using it right. If your first art with AI, if your first thought with, sorry, if your first thought with AI is stewardship, how you can steward your time better, steward your gift better, steward yourself better, steward the people you serve better, and steward the future better, then we can have a conversation. Most people stall out on AI at the exact same step. They don't know where to start.

The New York Times spent a weekend with me. Digital twins, AI, the local church, all of it.
