DHH as an Inspiration: From Ruby on Rails to Decentralization | HYPER | Forward Deployed Engineer

Muhammad Umar explains how David Heinemeier Hansson and Ruby on Rails shaped his approach to software engineering. Hyper combines Rails principles with AI orchestration to make building enterprise applications like ERPs cheaper than SaaS alternatives, with early customers already using it to bootstrap large systems.

So I have seen multiple recent LinkedIn posts of you. You are really inspired by DHH. So what do you want to say about that? The frameworks Ruby and Rail, is there any kind of inspiration like I wanted to know?
So I mean DHH has been a huge inspiration for me as a software engineer. Rail's framework is, was one of the first web framework and I think what is a software application by the way? I mean software business was like a bunch of cards and then there is a front end and there are a few things in between. That's what software prediction is all about. So rails and DHH actually I think in 2002 three built this framework to make web application neat and, and easy. And the goal at the time was like how a young software developer can start building software and the barrier to entry of building software on the web application should be lower. That was the goal of Rail framework. That inspired me a lot. And then even Hyper's core frameworks are very much inspired from Rails frameworks. Even what we talk about is like what is one guiding principle. It's like optimized for developer happiness that's also inspired from Ruby on Rails. So yeah, I mean that's not sure. I think DHH a bit Shopify has built on top of Rails framework but I think the kind of penetration that could have been possible with Rails wasn't there. So I think this is about time that we combine AI orchestration experience with these frameworks like Hyper and build a platform that really, really lowers the barrier to entry in software development. There are a lot of platforms like Replit or Bolt or Lovable that helps us do a lot of prototyping. But for Hyper the goal is how to help serious engineers build large scale enterprise applications. There are few of our customers who are trying to build large scale ERPs and they've raised their bootstrapped the initial structure in this I think you would see a lot of applications, especially applications that are essentially active. System of record what is Salesforce? I mean Salesforce is a system of record system. That's it, that, that's what HubSpot is. Right. So all these applications that essentially are few cruds and few workflow experiences on top of it. I think they're gonna have very much time. Good. Because I think a lot of businesses would chose to build their own systems, complex systems like these and, and, and it would be far more cheaper for them and you don't have to pay millions as SaaS fee every year. And that's, that's, that's and that's. We're gonna. We were starting already started seeing it in with Hyper and with other businesses in the region.
