In this career‑development video, Natalie Fisher addresses new graduates who feel blocked by the common belief that many years of experience are required to secure a great job. She outlines two typical hiring manager mindsets—one that insists on a set amount of experience and another that prefers to train and mold a less‑experienced candidate. Fisher then presents three actionable reasons why lack of experience need not be a barrier: (1) create your own opportunities through proactive networking, bypassing job boards that list experience requirements; (2) recognize abundant evidence that many positions are filled without extensive experience, supported by LinkedIn data and client anecdotes; and (3) challenge and reframe limiting belief systems that tell you you’re not ready, replacing them with empowering statements about interview mastery, networking, and self‑marketing. The video concludes with an invitation to a free three‑part video training series that provides a networking outreach template, an interview communication formula, strategies for salary negotiations, and a 90‑day promotion plan. Fisher encourages viewers to engage via likes, comments, and the provided link.

In this video, we're going to talk about 3 reasons why you don't need experience to land an amazing job right now. I'm Natalie Fisher, and I help new grads kickstart their careers. Let's get to it. Okay, so there are 2 schools of thought that hiring managers go back and forth with. I've been in the room when they're discussing this. Number one, they say, I need someone with a certain amount of experience, and they're very set on that. Number 2 is they say, I need someone I can train to do things our way and grow with the company. I want someone that I can train up and mentor and kind of mold them to the kind of employee that I want to have. So there are pros and cons to hiring someone with a ton of experience and someone with less experience. And I specialize in helping people with less experience get jobs they never dreamed of because I've seen it happen so many times. So without further ado, let's get started. Reason number 1, you can create your own opportunities. You don't have to rely on the job boards that actually say 5 years experience needed. So when you're out there meeting with people, you're creating your own opportunities for yourself, your experience is less important than if you were interviewing cold for positions that you found online. So when you're networking and you're creating your own opportunities, the sky is the limit. They don't ask you, the first thing they ask you is not how many years experience do you have? So you can decide how many meetings you're gonna go on. You can decide how many people that you're gonna speak to. You can talk to these people and you can take charge of your career by using the power of networking, especially if you don't have experience. This is extremely powerful, and I would say that if you don't have the experience, you really need to be networking, or you're going to be missing out on a ton of opportunities that are available right now. And you may have heard, but a study by LinkedIn says 85% of job openings are filled via networking and were never posted. So reason number 2, look around at some evidence. So you may think that you need a certain amount of years of experience to make the money that you want, or to work at the company that you want, or you may need more schooling, or you may think you need something that you don't have yet. The truth is there's evidence everywhere that that's not true, not for most positions anyway. So there's so many people, clients of mine, myself, that were able to find jobs without a ton of experience straight from school, and it was from meeting the right people. And it's because we were not afraid to go out there and talk to people that we didn't know. So creating opportunities for yourself instead of waiting around for opportunities to show up or a job to be posted means that you can leverage that and your lack of experience becomes less important. So reason 3, when you challenge your BS, things become possible. So by BS, I don't mean what you think. What I mean is belief system. So I want you to identify any challenge your belief system might give you. So for example, have you ever caught yourself saying any of the following things? Like, I don't have enough hands-on experience to get the job I want right now. I need to put in at least another 5 years. Or, I know I should network, but I just hate selling myself. Or, I just don't know how to market myself to employers. Now, are these things really true and can they be changed? Or are they stories you're telling yourself and are they holding you back in your career? So what if you could let go of these stories and you could believe in a new possibility? So how about we reframe them to this? I don't need a ton of hands-on experience to get the jobs that I want right now. I just need to master my interviewing skills. If I learn how to network effectively, I can stand out and open the right doors. Or, I can easily learn how to market myself effectively to get the job offers that I want. And there you have it, 3 reasons that prove you don't need as much experience as you probably think you do right now to land a great job.
