In this video, I'm going to tell you a story about what to do when you're nervous, and it's very counterintuitive. You actually don't have to change anything. You don't have to become more confident, and you can still get the job. Stay tuned. Hello, my name is Natalie Fisher. I'm a career mindset coach, and I have a story to tell you today. And most people are going to say, you know, take deep breaths, do things to relieve your nerves. And I agree with all of that stuff. However, I wanted to bring you something counterintuitive today in case you are still nervous even after you do all that stuff and you can't help it. Like, it's just your body, it feels unsafe, it's a pressure situation, it's an interview. So what I wanted to share with you was that early on in my career, when I got 3 competing job offers, there was one interview that I went to that I was extremely nervous for. So I was feeling all the nerves, my palms were sweaty, my face was actually shaking, like I was shaking. And this was a real thing that happened to me. So I went into the interview, and even though I knew my stuff and my thoughts were, I know my stuff, I know I'm really good at what I do, I know I can do a really good job in this position, I was still really nervous anyway. Okay? Because this was my body. It was just, it was, you know, it was jittery and I couldn't help it. So here's what happened. They said to me, they're like, are you okay? You seem really nervous. And I simply responded with, yes, you got me. That's because I am. Everybody laughed. We broke the ice and we proceeded with the interview. I answered the questions. I had the discussion. I had those thoughts and beliefs running the show, even though my body was nervous. My thoughts and beliefs were, I'm really good at what I do. I know I can help them in this position. I know I have value to offer them in this position. Even with my face shaking, even with the nerves showing, I still landed this job. So the point of this video is to share with you that if you are nervous and you cannot help but be nervous, it is okay. You can actually bring light to it. You can say, if I appear nervous, it's probably because I am. It is okay. It doesn't mean you're not going to get the job. It doesn't mean that you're not— that you're doing it wrong. It doesn't mean that you're not capable. It doesn't mean that you screwed up. It simply means you're a human being, and human beings get nervous. We have nervous systems, and it's okay. We just need to address it sometimes. So here's what you can say if you're nervous. If you find yourself nervous in the interview and you've done everything you can to prevent it, Simply say, if I seem nervous, it's probably because I am. Trust me, they will laugh. It'll break the ice. You can proceed with the interview, and you, as long as you still have valuable answers to give, you will be just fine, my friend. You will land that job.
