Self Doubt? How to Believe in Yourself When You Have No Confidence (Psychology Tricks That Work)

In this motivational video, Natalie Fisher explains that the beliefs we hold about ourselves and our situations are often the result of a mental "hallucination"—a selective filtering of reality driven by cognitive biases. She illustrates this with a common workplace scenario where someone assumes their boss dislikes them, showing how evidence supporting the belief is amplified while contradictory evidence is ignored. Fisher then offers a three‑step method to rewrite these self‑limiting narratives: (1) recognize that current beliefs are not objective truths; (2) play devil’s advocate by actively seeking at least ten pieces of evidence that contradict the negative belief; and (3) cultivate belief before taking sustained action, using failure as data to strengthen confidence rather than erode it. She argues that all breakthroughs—flight, the four‑minute mile—required belief before evidence existed. The video stresses that low belief leads to minimal action and eventual quitting, especially in a tough job market, while high belief fuels resilience and higher‑earning outcomes. Fisher concludes by promoting a free 3‑day series and a longer coaching program designed to help viewers systematically build and maintain belief in their professional goals.

How to believe new things. Have you ever wondered how you can believe something that you haven't done yet? Or has that thought ever come up of like, I've never done it before, and you wonder how you're gonna get there? Well, in this video, by the end of it, you're gonna understand how it works, how you need to proceed to believe something new, and I'm gonna give you 3 tools to do this. So stay tuned. Okay, the first thing is you have to understand that You are hallucinating your reality right now. So right now, what you believe isn't necessarily true. Think it is because that's what you've been practicing. That's what your brain has been practicing. So here, let me give you an example. So you might think right now that your boss doesn't like you. Okay, for example, right? You might just have that belief, and you might think that that's true, and you probably have a lot of evidence. To, like, if you believe that, you probably have a lot of evidence to show me that that is true. You could be like, well, she didn't respond to my message and she canceled our one-on-one. And she also gave me some negative feedback and she gave Sarah the job that I wanted, or she put her on the project. Like, you might have all these reasons, right? However, what this is, what happens, and it's called cognitive bias, is you think that that's true. So you pick out the information that supports it to be true, right? And ignore all the other information that could also signify that it's completely untrue, right? So even if she put Sarah on the project and not you, maybe she did send you a message that said, hey, could you please take a look at this, or could you please work on this? Now, it's possible she hasn't done anything that would indicate that she likes you, but there is probably going to be stuff that you've missed that your brain is just ignoring and filtering out because it decided that she doesn't like you. So that's now fact, right? It's happened lots of times where I've coached someone and they'll have something that they'll say, oh, my boss doesn't like me, she gave me this negative feedback, blah blah blah. However, the email says great job on this part, but could you please fix blah blah blah, right? And it's like you totally ignore the great job on this part, or you totally ignore anything that would indicate the opposite. So When you're hallucinating, which we all are all the time, we're always hallucinating and making up our own realities. You're gonna find what you're looking for every time. Okay, so that's the first thing you need to realize. And then you can go from there to realize that if nothing is inherently true, you can decide how you're going to proceed and what you would like to believe. And then you can find evidence of that being true. So here's the first step in which you do that: you find the opposite. So you basically play devil's advocate. For the opposite. So if I said to you, if we're going with that example and you think your boss doesn't like you, and I said, okay, well, your life depends on it, you're arguing in a court of law, you have to find 10 pieces of evidence that your boss does like you, or at least she doesn't hate you, right? One being you stay employed, right? Two being maybe she asked you a question on something. Right? So you start to push your brain to find the opposite of the evidence, right? And this applies when you're doing something new, when you're getting to a new goal and your belief is I can't do it or I don't know how, right? You find evidence of the opposite of that. Okay? So the next thing is your belief. If your belief is low or nonexistent, then you won't take the action to ever make it a reality, right? So you'll say you don't believe you can do something. You're not— you don't believe you're capable of it. If you believe that, then you're not going to be able to take the action, the sustained action, long enough to actually get yourself to prove that you can do it, right? And that is going to be a problem. So even if you have low belief, you can still take action with low belief And you can still fail your way there. And so I have lots of clients, they get a lot of nos, they might interview for a really long time and get nos, but their belief is what keeps them going. And so that's what they can, they can still double their salary in one year from continuing to keep going, right? And building strength from that process instead of what most people do, which is build weakness. And they get weaker every time they get a rejection or they get more fragile every time someone says no to them instead of getting stronger throughout the process. And so what belief does is it allows you to get stronger, right? When you double down on your belief and you double down on extracting the value from the attempts that did not work, you will get stronger when you are in belief, right? But what most people do, they don't have the mental strength, they don't have the, the They don't have the resilience, the mental resilience and mental strength to continue. And so then their belief crumbles and then they don't believe they can do it. So belief has to exist before the thing happens, right? So think about it in the world that we live in. Anything that's been done had to be believed before there was evidence of it being possible, right? So Planes take off. The fact that we can fly, all that—the the people who built the planes had to believe that they could, right? Before that that was ever gonna happen, right? Or the person, the guy who ran the four-minute mile—he had to believe that a human could run the four-minute mile, right? And before anybody had ever done it, right? That had to be a thing that they their mind locked into and believed. And what we want is often the opposite. So I'll ask my clients. I'll be. Like, well, what would it take to believe that you can get this 6-figure job? Or what would it take to believe that you can actually get this promotion or that you can do this kind of work? And they'll answer with, well, for me to get an offer, for somebody to give me an opportunity, for someone to, you know, it's always, I want the evidence first. And it's super backwards because that's not gonna work. It's just not how it works. We can't get— the thing we want until we believe we can get it. And then we got to basically give it to ourselves. We got to keep going, we got to double down, and we've got to continue until we figure it out. Now, it doesn't have to be hard. It can be easier and aligned, but it's still going to take a, a path to get there. So this is what I specialize in helping people with. This is why I help my clients. This is one of the things that I help my clients with, is to help them stay in the belief, to build their belief, to strengthen their mentality so that they can get to where they're going, right? So they can get a higher paying offer at the job they wanted, so they can double their salary, so they can earn at least $20K more, whatever the goal is for them. That's what I help them to do. And what will happen with most people if they don't have a system for building belief is they are going to settle for less, take whatever, and quit on their goal, right? That is what will happen. And we'll see they'll just get sucked down by all the negative chitchat and jimmy-jib-jabs of the internet and the posts and the headlines and whatever. They will get taken down by that and they will just live in a really like low belief state, not taking very much action because the lower your belief, the less action you're going to take and the lower it's or the the least impact it's going to have, right? So the attitude might sound like, yeah, I hope it's going to happen, but I'll just keep networking and see or. Like yeah, I tried really hard and I thought I had done really well, but then it didn't work. So I don't know, right? Like that when you when you're talking like that, that's the kind of narrative that shows a low belief and you're likely to quit and burn out before you get to the goal, right? So this it requires more of you, and especially in a harder job market, it is more important than ever that you get support. It is more important than ever that you learn these tools because most people are going to quit. Most people are going to complain. Most people are going to take. The easy way out. So if you'd like to go deeper on this, I have a 3-day series, and my 3-day series helps you to build your belief. It shows you evidence of the opposite. It will show you evidence of the fact that you're wrong about the things that you believe now, because if you did believe what you believe now and you're not getting the results, there's a good reason for that. So I would recommend sign up for my 3-day series as the next step, and if that resonates with you, I have a full program where I walk you through all the way. So if you're feeling in low I'm so glad you landed here. You're in the right place. Give this video a thumbs up if you liked it. Give it a thumbs down if you didn't. Subscribe to the channel, and I will see you on that three-day training or in my next video. Have a great day.
