In this motivational video, Natalie Fisher argues that the single factor sabotaging most people's careers is their own tendency to blame external circumstances—such as the industry, economy, recruiters, or university career services—rather than taking full responsibility for their outcomes. She explains why the victim mindset feels psychologically comfortable, but ultimately keeps individuals stuck. Fisher contrasts this with the behavior of successful people, who own their results, make proactive choices, and create opportunities regardless of external conditions. She urges viewers to shift from blaming to owning, emphasizing that every setback is a decision point: either act differently or continue to blame. By recognizing that they are the creator of their career trajectory, viewers can empower themselves to change undesired aspects of their lives. The video concludes with a call to action, offering free resources and one‑on‑one coaching for those ready to adopt this responsibility mindset.

In this video, we're going to talk about the toxic thing that is eating up your career and your ability to become the success that you want right now. So stay tuned. So you are the reason why your career isn't where you want it to be right now. And holding on to the belief that it's someone else's fault or something else's fault— for example, it's the industry I'm in, it's too competitive, there are no jobs in my industry right now— or it's the economy, it's not good, so I can't get a job. Or there are no jobs available, or the recruiter isn't getting back to me yet. It's not my fault because I've done everything I can, yet the recruiter isn't getting back to me. The university career center isn't helping me. This is you outsourcing to someone else when in fact you are in total control. Yes, other people are going to promise you things and they're going to want to help you, but nobody is as invested in your career success as you are, and therefore you need to realize that you are 100% responsible for what happened. And look, I get it. It is easier to feel like you were the victim and the things that you did didn't work out and there's nothing else that you can do and it's not your fault. And I understand that a lot of us get benefit out of thinking this way. You might get benefit of feeling like a failure. You might be able to feel sorry for yourself and that might give you a benefit, but it's not going to help you in the end because you're still going to end up in the exact same same place. And because of that failure, you're in control. So whenever something doesn't work out, you have a choice. You can decide to do something else, or you can decide to quit and blame someone else or blame external circumstances. I bet you, you can't name a single person who has become really successful and blamed some external circumstances for their success. That was them. They took the action. They were the ones who made things happen. And that's what successful people do. Successful people go out and make things happen. They don't wait for a recruiter to call back or sit around and say there are no jobs out there. That's not how successful people act, and I bet you can't name one that does that. So instead, I challenge you, try taking responsibility. Try living your life and getting your career on track by everything that you do. So I do this 100% in my life, in my business. I show my team, my husband, my family that the world and my life is is mine and I create it no matter what is happening around me. I'm not a victim to outside circumstances. I'm not a victim to the economy. I'm not a victim to somebody who said no to me or somebody who didn't deliver. I'm the creator and I am a powerful person who has the ability to go out there and make things happen. If you don't, someone else is going to be doing it and you're going to look at that person and be like, oh well, why can't I have what they have? This is the reason why. So you have a choice right now in this moment, and it's not a choice that you can agree with right now just because you're inspired in the moment. It's a choice that will change the direction of your entire life. So do you choose to blame other people, external circumstances, for your life and everything that's gone wrong? Or do you choose to take full responsibility for your life and your career, even when it's difficult, and especially when it's difficult? So choose wisely, because your life and your career depend on it. And I don't say this to be harsh or anything. I say this because it was a big epiphany that I had. And once I I realized that, once I realized that all my failed attempts were in my control, it meant that everything that I looked at in my life that I didn't like, I had created. Therefore, I could create something better if I wanted to. So it might— depending on where you are, I'm sure you have things in your life that you're very proud to have created and you're very happy about. And I'm sure there are things in your life that you don't like. You look at them and you're like, I wish that was better. Or I wish that was different. And the power is yours, my friend. You can change it. So that's what I wanted to talk to you about today. If you want to continue learning with me, you can click the link below. I have free resources you can sign up for.
