When in doubt here's how to stand out

Natalie Fisher argues personal stories are your best tool to stand out in interviews and speeches because they're uniquely yours and can't be replicated. She credits stories with getting her hired and generating the most audience engagement.

The number one way to stand out, it's actually quite simple. When in doubt, tell a story. Why? Because it's unique to you. Nobody can repeat it. Nobody can replicate it because it was unique to the actual things that happened in your life. And people can have qualifications, they can have a list of facts, they can have a list of results, but nobody can have your exact story. So tell a story, and that's how you'll stand out. And it doesn't have to be hard to do because your story already exists, right? So your story about that way that you did something, or the story about how you failed and recovered, or— there's already an interesting story there, right? It might just not seem interesting to you because you lived it, but it's interesting to someone else. And I could prove it over and over and over. I've got hired using stories. I've got the most responses to any content I put out is because of a story. Um, the most response to, the most resonance, the most comments, the most magnetic content. Because when you put out a lot of content, you get a lot of data and you get a lot of information and it, it rings true with individuals because you talk one-on-one. You have, you have a short opportunity, say in an interview, you're doing a speech in a meeting, you have a short opportunity to catch people's attention and draw them in. And telling a story is the absolute number one way to do that. You'll see every good speech has a story in it. Every good interview had to have some stories about you in it. So when in doubt, tell a story. And there's lots of mine online. Um, I actually have a storytelling masterclass. I have stories. I have a workbook of all the stories that I've told that have gone viral and gotten the most comments. I have a behavioral interview package with over 50+ examples of stories of me and my clients that, that we've actually told in interviews that have helped us get hired. And all that is available inside my community if you're interested, link in my bio, or sign up for one of my trainings and you'll hear about it. But stories, stories, stories. And I know people say that, but make it like actually your duty to master telling stories, feel comfortable with it, enjoy it. It will change your ability to have an impact on people, to influence people. And you're not doing anything unethical. You're just getting really good at sharing your unique story. So it's awesome. You should try it.
