A real-estate cold-caller describes years of rejection before connecting with Donald, a homeowner in pre-foreclosure who'd delisted his property. That single deal netted $5,000 and taught them to focus on expired listings instead of broad neighborhood calls.

We were just hammering and cold calling and I was getting rejected and it was really hard. And I was like, man, this sucks because we were calling pretty much the phone book. We were calling lists like expired listings and just giant lists of just neighborhoods. And we were just not really targeted like I know how to do now where you want to just target specific stack lists. We were just calling pretty much anyone and everybody in the area, right? What ended up happening is we met with a guy named Donald who was in pre-foreclosure. He had previously listed his house, and he came from the expired listings list, listed his house. He didn't get anyone to want to buy his house for a price that he was willing to sell for, so he just took his house off the MLS and he was willing to let it go. We ended up working with Donald. This was a crazy deal. I'm not going to get super into it. I have more on the story with Donald, but we ended up making $5,000 on that deal.
