A first-person account describing the evolution of networking at events: starting with manual introductions, moving to collecting attendee profiles via a spreadsheet, developing an algorithm to match attendees, and finally consolidating ticketing, profiles, and matching into a unified platform called Sara Beach.
I took that from you, where when somebody would walk into the mixer, I would go get them from the door, greet them, and then go introduce them to somebody. So I made a connection for each person individually, and it worked at 10 people, it worked at 20 people. And as it grew, I just couldn't do it manually anymore. And then I started getting people that I didn't know. So I needed people's profiles to even be able to match them up. So I had folks fill up a spreadsheet, like a Google sheet before the event with their information, and I would match them manually. Eventually, I wrote a algorithm to do the matching on top of the spreadsheet. And. But then what started happening was you had a ticketing platform, you had a profile on a spreadsheet. And then I had my little algorithm on the side and trying to manage all of this stuff, and it just got out of hand. And so as we started growing, I figured, let me put it all in one platform, which is how Sara beach was born.
