Joe Panetta steps down after 25 years leading Biocom California, with Tim Scott taking over as CEO. Panetta stays on in a chair role while Scott, who co-founded Connect and San Diego Venture Group, represents a new generation of ecosystem builders in San Diego's life-sciences community.
Natalie Rocha, she's been doing a great job of covering the life sciences ecosystem for the last year, year plus or so. She did a great piece highlighting Joe Panetta, who is the former CEO of Bioconf California. They have recently appointed a new CEO, Tim Scott, to take his role after 25 years. So yeah, the headline was Joe Panetta oversaw the growth of San Diego's biotech scene for 25 years. Now he's passing the torch. Jonah, Neil, do you guys want to comment on this story? This was pretty, pretty big news for last and people knew about this change happening for a while and I, I do know that, that he's going to stay on and involved in Biocom in some capacity for kind of like a chairman or.
I believe it's a huge change in the guard. I mean to be in one role pretty much for 25 years. Like he has been, you know, not just behind the scenes but out front being the face of the life science community in San Diego for so many, so long and therefore is everywhere else too, you know, on EDC's board and on, you know, everything. So it's just a big change in the guard. I think Tim Scott is of, I mean Tim being most recent chairman of Connect, having I think a few biotech exits of his own, very much representative of kind of the new guard of not just entrepreneur but ecosystem builder in that regard. Right, right. Like Tim has completely advocated for combining of San Diego Venture Group and Connect. He like really like behind the scenes made that happen with Eric Otterson. And so now to be in a formal face leadership role for Tim, not just kind of working behind the scenes to connect the scene and build companies makes sense for me and it's a great face for representing the life science community. It's just, just a change and maybe a healthy change to be honest in San Diego to have new blood and new energy and interest in just leading forward. So congrats to Tim and thanks Joe for everything you've done.
