Nick Norwitz ranks brain health supplements from S to F tier. Lithium orotate and omega-3 DHA hit S-tier, with DHA at roughly 2,000 mg daily from sardines. Leg-press exercise earns A-tier for irisin signaling and its link to cognition, while GLP-1 agonists land B-tier for effects on amyloid processing.

Ranking brain health supplements. All right, lithium orotate, definitely S-tier. The way it works is it inhibits an enzyme involved in tau hyperphosphorylation, which is one of the hallmarks of Alzheimer's disease. And there's some really exciting literature that was published last year in Nature out of Harvard suggesting it can help protect against Alzheimer's. It's definitely part of my health routine. I take 5 milligrams of lithium orotate daily. This is a funny one, a leg press. Funny but serious because Working large muscle groups, like your legs, sends biochemical signals like irisin to your brain that help support brain growth. In fact, in twin studies, they found that having greater leg power predicted better cognition and larger brain volume in the stronger twin. So for that reason, I'd give a leg press an A-tier, although a squat rack will work just fine. B vitamins. C-tier. I mean, you need them, but if you're eating a well-formulated diet, I don't think there's much benefit from supplementing with them. Omega-3s. Definitely S tier for the brain, no doubt. I personally try to get at least 2,000mg of DHA, a long-chain omega-3, per day for my brain, and sardines are definitely a staple in my diet. Fiber. Fiber for brain health, F tier. Let's see if I get in trouble for this one. And yes, I know about short-chain fatty acids and all that, but I'd still choose sardines over broccoli for my brain health. Finally, GLP-1s. Not exactly just a supplement. For brain health, I'm actually going to give it a B tier. There's some fascinating data showing weight-independent effects on how amyloid is processed in the brain, and researchers are investigating it for Alzheimer's prevention. We do need more data, which is why I give it a B tier.
