The live event, hosted by editor Philip Charter and featuring ConsenSys Network head Niko Laamanen, introduced the second 21 Futures anthology, "Financial Fallout," a collection of Bitcoin‑centric dystopian short fiction. The hosts explained the anthology’s purpose—using speculative stories to make complex monetary and freedom‑related ideas accessible— and outlined the publishing workflow, from over 150 competition submissions to editing, hybrid AI‑assisted artwork, typesetting, and a March 14 2025 release timed with the historic Gold Standard Act and Saifedean Ammous’s upcoming book. They discussed the growing Bitcoin‑fiction market, highlighted the role of AI in both content creation and publishing (critiquing services like Spines while defending AI as a brainstorming tool), and described the hybrid AI‑art approach used to keep costs low. The competition’s prize structure was revealed: two 4th‑place winners ($50 each + signed book), a 3rd‑place winner ($250 + social‑media promotion), a 2nd‑place winner ($500 + podcast interview), and a grand‑prize winner ($1,000 + feature interview, podcast, and site promotion). Winners and their stories—"Supplying the Slugs" (Tomás de Saavedra), "We Are Living Well" (Satoshi Symbol), "Proxy Temit Noski" (DM), and "Infinite Debt" (Graham Shimmin)—were announced, with brief author spotlights. The hosts promoted community channels (Telegram, Nostr, Substack newsletter) and previewed future 21 Futures projects, including a cyber‑punk classic re‑release. The event concluded with thanks to all contributors and a call to join the growing Bitcoin‑fiction community.

  1. Hello everyone, thanks for joining. We are live with this 21 Futures Financial Fallout Anthology event. Uh, great, I see we have another author joining us. Uh, hi Alex, hope you can hear me. Um, I'm Philip Charter. I'm the editor and the idea haver behind, uh, 21 Futures. We should be live on YouTube, X, uh, Facebook, LinkedIn, and more. Uh, hope you can see us and, and, uh, ask your questions, uh, and I'll be able to see them. But, uh, it's my first time running Spaces on X, so, uh, I hope all doesn't go haywire. Uh, great. Hi to wherever you are. Um, what about Andy says we want the show? Okay, great, we're getting on with it, don't worry. Why are we here? Um, today we are going to be announcing, uh, giving a bit more information about the book itself and when it's due out and exactly what it is. We're going to have some of the authors who were featured in the book come on and say hi and maybe talk a little bit about why they chose to take part. And of course, we're going to reveal the winners of the competition. So this anthology is not just a book, but it was also a short fiction competition of which there will be 4 prizes in addition to all of the other authors who are featured in the book. So thanks again for coming. Um, enough rambling from me, let's get on with the show. I should say, uh, before we start, uh, shout out to Alex Bost, co-editor of the book. Unfortunately, Alex can't be here today, but wishing him all the best with his, uh, current business, which is baby-related. So all the best with that, Alex. And, uh, yeah, I hope— wish you could be here. Um, also we're waiting for the mysterious Niko Laamanen, who is absent. Niko is the head of Consensus Network, the publishers of 21 Futures. I hope at some point he'll be along to assist me, uh, in my ramblings and answer some of the questions and talk a little bit about the book. This whole event should last about half an hour. We won't keep you too long. The idea is to just announce the book, give a bit more information, and let everyone know who has won the amazing prizes that we have on offer. So stick around for that. First off, I was going to have a discussion with Niko on a few points about That relate to Bitcoin, cypherpunk, freedom fiction, and the kind of space that we operate in. I suppose our idea behind that was to just mention that really this space seems to be taking off. We first— we published our first anthology at the end of 2023, so almost one year ago to the day. Um, now we have big names like Lyn Alden and Saifedean Ammous who are announcing that they're publishing fiction books in the space of, uh, I don't know what you could call it, freedom or monetary theory, uh, all of these things which surround a lot of the issues that, um, ConsenSys Network especially is concerned with. There's also been the launch of a Bitcoin bestseller. Yeah, thanks, DJ says Structured Anarchy, one of our authors. Yeah, there's also been Steve Berry, I think, who's a fairly high-selling author in the States, had a thriller which was called Atlas Maneuver, I believe. And that is a Bitcoin-based sort of thriller. So we have more and more books coming out in the space in addition to all the nonfiction stuff that we have and a lot which Consensus puts out. There are some great things coming in terms of fiction, and we hope to give more news on that next year. And of course, 21 Futures will be continuing Past this anthology too. Uh, yeah, so just that was a quick word on, on sort of the space and that there are many more, uh, fiction titles coming out, which I personally think is great and should bring some good attention to some of the difficult situations that we may find ourselves in, one of which is financial fallout. I can't remember exactly how the concept for this anthology came about. I think it was based on dystopia, from what I remember, that I wanted our second anthology to be based, rather than just on great stories, on a particular trope— or not trope, but a genre or theme. Of genre fiction, dystopia, I guess. I don't know. Please let me know in the chat what you think. You know, is dystopia old hat? Is it too downbeat? Is it something that we are drawn to and that we all love? Because let's be honest, shows like Black Mirror are still super popular and people are drawn to, you know, some of these difficult terms. Uh, great, I can see Niko is here. Welcome along. Let's bring Niko on board. I'm not sure how to bring Niko on. Niko, hi. I can hear you. You can hear me?
