Alright, let's get into today's episode. Heyo. Welcome to the $100 MBA show, the business podcast that deals with the reality of business every single day with our daily 10min business lessons for the real world. I'm your host, your coach, your teacher Omar Zenholm. I'm also the co founder of the hundred dollar MBA, a complete business training and community online over at 100mba.net and in today's episode you'll learn how to make the most of a bad day. Sometimes in business, sometimes in life, you're just going to have a rough day. You know what I'm talking about? Where nothing goes right. Where one crisis happens after another. Where that saying when it rains, it pours really rings true. It happens to all of us, to the best of us. There's no question about that. The real question is what are you going to do about it when you have a day like that, how do you deal with it? You got to focus on what you can control. And many of us when we have a bad day, our reaction to it or the way we deal with it makes it worse. In today's episode, I'm going to share with you strategies that have worked for me. I'm no stranger to a bad day. But the world doesn't stop spinning, the business doesn't stop going. You gotta find a way to get through the day and get through those horrible feelings that day produces. I'm gonna show you how in today's episode. So let's get into it. Let's get down to business. Today's episode of the $100 NBA show is brought to you by Long Tail Pro, a step by step system to help you quickly discover thousands of profitable, easy to rank keywords for almost any niche visit. Longtailpro.com MBA and use coupon code MBA for a free trial and 30% off your subscription forever. Again, that's Longtailpro.com MBA and Use Code MBA when it comes to business and in life, bad days will happen. Bad things will happen. And often those bad things all happen on the same day, which makes your life a lot more challenging. But is that day just a complete write off? How do you manage when there's so many challenges? It's overwhelming? I'm the first to say I've had my share of bad days where everything that could go wrong went wrong that day. And I can vividly remember these days, days where I got very close to throwing in the towel. Now, the reason why I felt that way, why I felt so down and felt like quitting, was because I was focusing on the wrong things. Often when you have a lot of emergencies, dramas, whatever you want to call them in your day, we focus on why is this happening. We focus on how crazy is this, how could this happen? And we also just focus on how hard it is. Man, this sucks. Man, this is horrible. What I realized was it really helps when you expect to bad days to come your way. Now I'm not trying to say that you should be, you know, on your guard and be not happy and excited about life because hey, you got to be ready. Any bad day can happen anytime, right? No, enjoy life, have a positive outlook. But if you have a bad day, your reaction should, well, this is normal. This is going to happen from time to time. I have to deal with it. I have to face it head on. If you just get this one point, it's going to help you so much when you do have a bad day. Because what happens is that you start to realize or you start to feel that, hey, this is not just happening to me. This happens to everybody and this is normal and it's expected. When you expect something to happen, you don't feel like a failure, don't feel like there's something wrong with you. So my first strategy is just know that when you have a bad day that this is just par for the course. This is going to happen. It is happening. The next thing I do when I have a bad day is I take on Dale Carnegie's advice that he outlines in his book, stop worrying and start living. Step one is just to accept the fact that this is a crappy day and ask yourself, what's the worst that can happen. I know sometimes that feels like, oh, that brings on more stress. But actually what it does is Going to give you a sense of relief when you actually answer the question and you realize, okay, that's the worst that can happen. I might lose some sales today. I might lose a big client. Is it the end of the world? Am I going to be homeless? Chances are no. Step two, gather all the facts. Gather all the facts about what's going on, about the problems you're having today. What do you know for sure? And step three, think about how you can improve upon the situation. How can you make this a little less painful? By having this three step approach. It makes all these dramas, these problems you're having on a bad day a little bit easier because you're taking more of a logical approach, more of a sensible, practical approach, rather than just getting caught up in the emotions of man. This stinks. It's easy to get caught up. Trust me, I know. Another strategy is, I also remind myself that this day is not going to last forever, that sooner or later it's going to be bedtime and I'm going to have to go to sleep and tomorrow is a new day. Another strategy is to remind yourself that no matter how bad things may seem, no matter how bad, it's not unrepairable, right? It's not irreversible. You might paint this big picture in your head like, my reputation is ruined or whatever it is. This is why I love reading biographies. They're proof that people fail. People fall on their faces, they get embarrassed, and they still continue to succeed. One of the examples that just popped in my mind right now is the actor Robert Downey Jr. Before Iron Man, Robert Downey Jr. Was the joke of Hollywood. He was in a horrible, horrible situation in rehab, was seen as like this reckless loser of an actor. But he realized, hey, my past doesn't equal the future. And now he's probably one of the most popular, highly paid, beloved actors in Hollywood. Now my next strategy is going to sound a little bit strange, but it's so powerful in my book. When you have a bad day, it's horrible in the moment, but in the grander scheme of things, it's a good thing. Why would a bad day be a good thing? Because bad days give you perspective. One, when you have a bad day, you can reflect upon it when you have a good day and have a greater sense of gratitude that today is a good day. I know what a good day looks like because I've had some bad days. Number two, when you have bad days, they're good reminders. When you have the next bad day, that, hey, I had bad days before in the past and I got through them. So it makes you stronger. It also gives you again, perspective that, hey, this keeps happening, this is normal, and I'm still standing, even though I've had my share of bad days in the past. And lastly, a bad day really just means you're struggling. You are having some serious challenges. The biggest and best entrepreneurs go through this. Elon Musk has some horrible days where the media trashes him and because of it, his stock plummets. Or I should say Tesla stock plummets. Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple, right When the iPhone X or the iPhone X came out, it got bashed. People said, what is that ugly notch? What the hell is that new design? Now, every other smartphone has a notch. The point here is that if you're having struggles, if you're having challenges, quote, unquote bad days, that means you're on the right path. It's the rite of passage. You have to go through these things. The this is what successful people go through. Successful people have bad days. People that don't have any challenges, it just means they're not pushing themselves enough. They're staying in a safe place, they're not taking any risks, which means they're not really achieving new things. They're not having any fun. They're keeping it very safe and very boring. Guys, I got more. When it comes to dealing with a bad day, I got one huge, huge insight that has helped me big time. But before that, I gotta give love to today's sponsor. You all know how much I love a good read. We do our must read episodes here on the show every two weeks because I'm a big believer that there are insights in books you just can't get anywhere else. That's Blinkist spelled B L I N K I s t. Blinkist.com MBA to start your free trial or get three months off your yearly plan. Blinkist.com MBA Alright, I got one big strategy to help you get through a bad day in business or in life. Now, this is going to sound strange, but trust me, this really helps. Remember when I said having bad days gives you perspective? Well, this exercise is going to give you incredible perspective. It's going to help you really get through a bad day and say, hey, this is not that bad. I'm going to get through this. I'll be fine. And that's to really sit down and this is only going to take you about 10 to 15 minutes and write down in full detail what a bad day actually is. I'm talking horrible day. What would be a horrible day? Now this may sound morbid, but it really does help you. Let me show you why. When you write down in detail what a bad day would be, you start to tap into what is really important in your life. Your family, your loved ones, maybe your quality of living, maybe your freedom to be able to do what you like. Maybe just your personal freedom. Many of us enjoy freedoms in our life that we don't even understand. Freedoms that a lot of people around the world would dream to have. Whether it's expressing your opinion openly or just the pure ability to change your life at any time, for a lot of cultures, a lot of parts in the world, that's not so easy. So by writing down what a horrible day really means, what a bad day really means, you're going to highlight all the things that you're grateful of, things that you take for granted every single day. The fact that you know where your next meal is going to come from. Where you can open up your fridge and actually eat something at any time. Where you have friends, where you have family, where you have a roof over your head, where you have all these things. Imagine a day where all those things were lost and you can never get them back. That's the reality of a lot of people in the world. So when you look at that bad day compared to the day you're actually having, that you're calling a bad day, you start to realize, oh, I still have a lot of things I can enjoy that I can be grateful for and I can overcome these challenges. If I'm having an irate customer, if my website goes down, one of my employees does something incredibly stupid, if I get in an argument with one of my co founders, whatever it is, you're going to realize that, hey, I still have the opportunity to turn all those things around. I can make good on the situation. It's going to allow you to focus on the fact that, hey, I still have control. It's going to remind you that you still have control over your life. So these reminders remind you that, hey, you still have a lot of control under your hands and things may be bad right now or not so great, but you can turn it around. And tomorrow's a new day and you have all these opportunities around you and all these blessings, for lack of a better term, that you're taking for granted. Bad days will come. But the question is, what are you going to do about it? How are you going to handle? How will you accept bad days and not necessarily turn them around, but just deal with them as they are? Thank you so much for listening to the $100 VA show that wraps up today's lesson. But today's episode is not over. It's Free Ride Friday. I got to give away a lifetime membership to EZ Course. But I was reminded one time by my friend Noah Kagan, shout out to you, Noah, over@Sumo.com, when I was having a bad day and he told me, hey man, I know it's a bad day, but at least something's happening. At least you're having some challenges. That's what gives our life excitement, solving problems. There's so many people out there that have boring lives and it's so mundane. It was kind of a good reminder. Like, yeah, I guess you're right, man. I mean, the fact that I'm having challenges or had a bad day means I'm actually doing something. So thanks, Noah for that reminder and I wanted to share that reminder with all of you. Alright, thanks so much.
