Welcome to the Hundred Dollar MBA show. Because you need more than just hustle on the road to success with your business. You need a map. And that's what we're here for every single day with our daily 10 minute business lessons for the real world. I'm your host coach, your teacher, Omar Zenholm. I'm also the co founder of the Hundred Dollar MBA, a complete business training and community online over at 100mba.net and in today's episode you will learn how to work on weekends without burning out. If you're starting your business, it's a good chance you're building it on the side. It's your side hustle while you have your full time job. That means in your off time, when you're not working at your job, you're trying to get that business off the ground. You're building it so you might put a few hours at night during the week, but you also rely on the weekend to make a dent with your business. But hey, let's get real. You're tired by the end of the week. How do you put in those needed hours on the weekend to build your business without being completely afraid? Come Monday, I'm going to give you my personal strategy. This worked for me because I side hustled for five years with a full time job and a full time business. I'm not talking about a little hobby business on the side. I'm talking about a full fledged business with employees and all the headaches that come with it. I'm going to show you how I was able to work on weekends without getting burnt out. Let's get into it. Let's get down to business. Again, that's longtailpro.commba use code MBA I want to begin today's lesson by giving you the truth. The truth of the matter is you are not a machine. You're not a robot. If you're working a full time job and you're putting in hours during the week to work on your business, meaning that you're coming home from work and spending a couple hours on the computer side hustling, come Friday night, come Saturday, come Sunday, or whatever the weekend is in your country, you're tired. You know you have to work. You know that you have to put in some solid hours during the weekend, but you also need to recharge. How do you strike that balance? How do you get work done while still feeling like, hey, I had a good weekend? This is what you're gonna learn in today's episode. The first thing is that you have to start thinking in hours and not in days. A lot of us say, I'm gonna work all day Saturday and make a huge dent on what I'm working on with my business. Or they say, I'm gonna work Saturday and Sunday. Forget about the days, we're gonna talk about hours. Cause you can break down hours into actual tasks. How many hours is it gonna take to do what you're looking to do on the weekend? So let's say you want to put in eight hours this weekend to finish up your website. We're talking eight solid hours. No interruptions, no distractions. Now, of course, you just can't pull that off. Eight hours straight. So what we're going to do is that we're going to break that up into two sessions. You're going to have two sessions during the weekend, four hours apiece. Now, a lot of people, when they think about working on the weekend, they focus on the work and not the weekend. In order for this to work, you have to prioritize you recharging your batteries, you have to prioritize your time off. So you got to carve out that time off first. I know that sounds counterintuitive, but this makes sense. It will work. So say, for example, you're like me and you like playing basketball on the weekends with your buddies. Let's say you play basketball at noon. You need to do that activity to feel like you had fun this weekend. And that you're recharged. So that's number one. You have to think about what are the things that are going to give you enjoyment. They're going to make you feel like you've had a good weekend. That could be dinner and a movie on Sunday. Whatever it is, prioritize your weekend activities. Number two, don't break up your work into too many sessions. What you want to do is have a very long session of relaxation where you shut off. If you only shut off for a couple hours and go back to work, your brain really didn't get a chance to completely relax. It's almost like you've been on the entire week, including the weekend. So what we're gonna do here is that we're going to make sure we have long stretches of relaxation during the weekend, both Saturday and Sunday, especially Sunday, because again, you're gonna go back to work on Monday, the day after the weekend. So it's important for you to feel relaxed, recharged and ready to go before you go back to work. Okay, so when are we going to get these eight hours done? So we said two sessions of four hours. Now what I'm about to say may not sound like fun, but trust me, do it. And you're going to thank me on the weekend. On Saturday, you're going to get up early. I know that doesn't sound like fun and I know that sounds like, oh man, I want to rest in. You're going to get to rest and you're going to have a rejuvenated weekend. But just follow this strategy, trust me. So you're going to get up at six o' clock in the morning. You might be thinking, that's kind of early. That's earlier than I wake up for work. Yes, it's early. But hey, there are people that get up at 4:35, all these miracle morning people, right? But just trust me for a moment. You're going to get up at 6 and you're going to spend a good hour just getting up. That includes, you know, brushing your teeth and washing your face and having breakfast and easing into the day. 7 o' clock is a hard start. That's when you're going to start working. You're going to start working on your business. Seven sharp and for the next four hours. So from seven to 11, you're going to have an uninterrupted session of building your business. Whatever that project is, whether it's building your website or whatever it is, you need to let the other people know in your household whether it's roommates or family, I cannot be interrupted. And this is another reason why getting up early is so important. Because for a lot of households, half that time, if not all that time, that's the other members of the household are going to be sleeping. So you can get a lot of great uninterrupted work with no distractions. But let them know anyway that hey, tell me. Good morning. Ask me about my day after 11 o'. Clock. After 11 o' clock you are done. The rest of the day is yours. You can read the newspaper, you can go and play, you know, basketball. At noon you're going to have a great lunch, you can go shopping, you can catch a movie, you can go out to dinner. Whatever it is, that's it. 11 in the morning, you're good to go for the rest of the day. That's almost like having the whole Saturday off. Now what this does is it makes you feel completely recharged and you just feel guilt free because you got your work done in the morning. You don't resent yourself when you're enjoying your weekend because you know you've done what you had to do. Now you want to take a guess what you're going to do on Sunday? The same thing. You're going to get up at 6, have an easy morning, start 7 sharp, put your four hours in and after 11, Sunday's all yours. If you need to do something a little earlier than 11 o', clock, then just get up a little earlier or have a shorter breakfast. The point is, you gotta let the rest of the Sunday be completely free and relaxing because hey, you got work the next day and you need to feel recharged. So go full time fun and relaxation after 11. Now you might be asking, hey Omar, what if I had a late night on Saturday? I really partied hard and enjoyed my weekend. What if I can't get up at 6 because I went to bed at 1 or 2? Well, I'm going to tell you, get up at 6 anyway and then take a nap at 11 or at 1 or at 2 or whatever. Naps are going to be considered part of your relaxation time and it won't affect your outcomes of working on your business. Guys, I got more on today's lesson, but before that, let me give love to today's sponsor. One of the first things you got to do when you start a business is acquire a business address. You need it to register your business. You need it to open up a business bank account. You even need it to register for email marketing. Yes, you need an address on the bottom of your email marketing newsletters. But if you work from home like a lot of us do, you don't want to put your home address and have your customers show up to your door. And you don't want to spend the extra money every single month on having a business office. This is where Earth classmail comes in. They hook you up with a swanky business address and all the mail that gets sent there gets scanned and uploaded to your account in the cloud. That means you never have to check physical mail ever again. You could see it anywhere, anytime from your phone or your laptop. Pretty cool. So cool. We signed up. We absolutely love it. And we've been using Earth classmail for over a year now. And Earth classmail wants to hook you up with a free month so you can get started with your business address. Just go to earthclassmail.com mbamonth and use coupon code MBAMONTH. Again, that's earthclassmail.com MBAMONTH Coupon code MBAMONTH There is no doubt that building your business on the side, having a side hustle is a lot of work. But these strategies of maximizing your weekend really make a difference. When I went back to work on Monday after a weekend like that, I felt super empowered. I felt so recharged because I got so much done with my business. I felt like I was getting ahead and I had a great weekend. I enjoyed myself and I prioritized my relaxation and enjoyment so I was ready for the week ahead. And in fact, I actually got more done during the week after work for my business because I was so motivated because I made such a dent during the weekend. You know what I'm saying? You know, when you get something done and you start to see the finish line, you're like, oh, great, I just need a little bit more to do. I can't wait to get work done. I can't wait to get that done and hit the finish line. Go ahead and try this out. Let me know how it goes. Let me know in iTunes rating and review how this goes. I read every single one. Just reference this episode and I'll know exactly what you're talking about. Speaking of rating and reviews, this lesson is over, but the episode is not. Because today is Free Ride Friday, where we give away a lifetime membership to one of our programs. We do this every single Friday, so leave us an itunes rating interview to enter the draw for for every week. All right, before I go, I want to leave you with this. One of the worst feelings of side hustling is feeling like you're not making any progress. When you make these huge dents during the weekend, you start to get some big steps, big leaps into your progress. You start to feel like you're in control. You start to feel that this can actually happen. And it starts to happen. When I got my weekends in order, everything fell into place. Place in terms of my productivity and efficiency with my side hustle, there's something about a concentrated amount of time, a number of hours where there are no interruptions, where you can get a lot done. Give it a try. I know it'll work out. All right, I'll check you. In Monday's episode, we have a very special guest teacher, David burkus, who's going to teach us how to make the connections you need to grow your business. I'll see you then. Take care, Sam.
