I'm your host, your coach, your teacher, Omar Zenholm. I'm also the co founder of the Hundred Dollar mba, a complete business training and community online. I might be tired, I might be burnt out, or maybe it's just been a long week. But I gotta keep going, I gotta keep making it happen. I gotta keep running the business. So I've developed four personal hacks, techniques, whatever you want to call them, to get me going. These hacks are quick and easy to implement and in fact some of them I do right in bed as I'm waking up. One of these are always a surefire way for me to get fired up and be inspired to take on the day. We all need a little push from time to time. Let me give you four ways to push yourself. Let's get into it. Let's get down to business. Support for today's show comes from Mattress Firm. These hacks will give you that extra push, that extra motivation, that extra inspiration to get going in the morning to start your day. But if you hate your business, you hate your job, or you're just downright lazy, nothing's going to help you. What these hacks do is really remind you why you became an entrepreneur and allows you to focus on the right things so you can keep moving forward. So let's start with hack number one and this is a very simple but effective hack and that's following the right people on social media. I prefer Twitter because Twitter is easy, quick, to the point, and if you just follow the people you want to follow, that's all that's going to show up in your feed. So follow your mentors. Follow the people you look up to. If you look up to Jeff Bezos, he's inspiring to you. Follow him on Twitter. Elon Musk, Barbara Corcoran, Sara Blakely. By following these people that you look up to that are inspirational, simple things are going to pump you up. Simple things like knowing what they're working on, the big projects that they're rolling out, the challenges they're having. It really puts things in perspective and allows you to say, hey, if these people are doing it, if these people are hustling and making it happen, if these people are doing the big things I want to do one day, I need to take the first steps and do my big things, and. And I literally can open up Twitter, look at my feed, and within less than a minute, really, I feel inspired. I feel like, hey, I gotta get going and start building my legacy. Maybe one day somebody will follow me on Twitter and be inspired by what I do. This hack also puts your problems in perspective. These people take big risks. They have a lot on the line. And when they have haters and complainers and the media bashing them, imagine a day in their life you realize, whoa, my challenges are not that bad. I can make it today. I can do it. Their problems dwarf your problems and make you feel like, okay, I can do this again. I wouldn't spend too much time with this hack. A minute or two is plenty. All right, hack number two, and that's simply reflecting on how far you've come. Many of us, we just look forward. We look at the future. We look at our vision. We have a goal, and we're just chasing it. And we forget to stop and look behind us, look at what we've done so far, appreciate the journey that we have accomplished up to this point. It's good to take a time out sometimes and look back at how far you've come, look at your accomplishments, look at the challenges you've overcome, realize, wow, I've grown, I've accomplished goals that I set in the past. And if you're being completely honest yourself, you probably look at yourself today and say, wow, I only dreamed of being at this point when I first got started. Even if you're just getting started and this is your first day of entrepreneurship, you should reflect on the fact that, hey, at least you've gotten started. How far you've come is, yes, you started. Now you're on the journey. You're on the sidelines before you're Saying what? If you were saying, I can't wait. I can't wait to start doing this. Well, you've started. You're there, you're in the arena. So pat yourself on the back for making it that far. Reflecting on how far you've come fills yourself with a sense of gratitude, a sense of like, all right, I gotta be grateful for the fact that I have done things in the past, I have accomplished a level of success. It also convinces you that, hey, if you have done things in the past, if you've accomplished goals in the past, you can do it again. You've gotten some wins under your belt. Reflect on the wins. I used to do this when I used to play basketball when I was younger. I still kind of do this. I play in an over 30s league right now. You know, it's not as competitive as when I was younger, but hey, this still works. A strategy of reflecting on your wins, reflecting on the good games you've had, the games where you just could not miss, and saying, hey, I've had great wins. I've had great games in the past. I could do it again. And putting yourself in that mindset really inspires you, motivates you, and gets you going, gets your fire going, Makes you feel like, hey, let's take on this day. Let's do this. All right, Hack number three. And that's surrounding yourself with motivated, inspired hustlers, people that are getting to work. If you're having a down morning, if you're having a morning where you just can't get yourself going, put yourself in an environment that's going to help you. Go to a coworking space, go to a cafe where a lot of people are working on their business. It's good to be in that environment because you see everybody around you is working hard, trying to achieve their goals, trying to make it happen. And it forces you to look at yourself and say, I gotta get to work, man. These people are making it happen. I don't want to get left behind in the dust. Even if those people are your competitors, that's gonna pump you and say, man, they're going to get it. I gotta get mine. I've said this so many times. Your environment is. Influences your outcomes. You gotta have the right environment around you, the right support, the right people that's gonna support you and your success. There's nothing worse than feeling uninspired and going to an uninspired space. You gotta go somewhere that people are making things happen to. Pick yourself up. Can't go to a coworking space. Find somebody, a friend, another entrepreneur, somebody that is interested in what you're doing and get on a video call. Cowork via video. There's plenty of people that do this. Right now, the virtual cowork. I'm gonna go back to another sports example, another basketball example. If you ever played sports and you play with somebody who is not as good as you, maybe a few levels below you, you play down to that level. So you play worse with somebody who's not that good, but you play a whole lot better, even better than you normally do. When you play somebody who's much better than you are, somebody who's giving you the business, is giving you a challenge that's really pushing you. The same goes in life and in business. When you surround yourself with people that are motivated, that are pushing themselves, that are making things happen, that are working harder than you are, it's gonna push you to work even harder and make it happen. So be conscious of that environment. Make the decision. In the morning when you're getting up and you're feeling down, you know what? I'm gonna go to a co working space today. I'm gonna get myself going. I'm gonna have a really inspired day. That thought alone of how your day's gonna look, it's gonna shape your mind. It's gonna be like, hey, let's get up, let's make it happen. It's gonna get you out of bed, it's gonna make you feel motivated, it's gonna frame your mind for a great day. And when you're at that place, you're gonna be pumped to get results. Guys, I got one more personal hack I wanna share with you for inspiration on the daily. But before that, let me give love to today's sponsor. Support for today's show comes from Microsoft Surface. I'm a big believer in making sure you're as productive as possible when working on your business. One productivity hack that really has worked for me is creating an environment of focus. Sometimes when you work in the same place day in and day out, like your home office, you slip into bad habits that derail you from your to do list. A good way to shake it up is to change your location. If you feel like you're getting distracted, get up and go to a cafe. Go to a co working space. Change your environment so you can get refocused. That's why I'm so pumped to share with you the all new Surface. Go. The smallest Microsoft Surface ever at just over a pound and with a 10 inch touchscreen the surface Go gives you laptop performance and tablet portability. From running office to taking care of your everyday tasks, the Surface Go easily adapts to all your needs, no matter where you are. And with prices Starting at just $399, it also adjusts to your budget. So what are you waiting for? It's time to go. All right. My fourth and final hack I want to share with you for inspiration is a two pronged approach. Let me explain. The first prong is reflecting on how you will feel when you accomplish your goal. I'm talking about your greater goal. So say, for example, you're not feeling so inspired. You're getting up in the morning. You think to yourself, how will actually feel when you hit that target, that target you've been aiming for this year. Whether it's a financial goal, whether it's a practical goal, like, hey, I want to have the freedom to be able to go to Europe for the first time. Whether it's to grow your team so you can work with some great talent and say, hey, I want my team to be, you know, five, ten employees. Imagine yourself achieving that goal and really just sit there and think about how that feels. Imagine how you're going to feel when that goal is hit. You're going to feel a sense of pride, a sense of happiness, a sense of, like, I did it, it was worth it, all that hard work. Really sit in the moment. Really imagine yourself being there, like you fast forwarded six months or so. If you're having trouble living that moment, try to borrow from the past. How did it feel when you accomplished a goal before? Use those same feelings. A sense of achievement, a sense of, you know, you're proud of yourself. Those feelings are going to motivate you. They're going to make you feel like, hey, I want to have that feeling. I want to accomplish that goal. I want that to be my reality. And it's going to push you forward. Now I said it's a two prong approach. What's the second prong? Well, I want you to do the same thing. Imagine how you're going to feel if you don't hit that goal because you don't do the work, because you weren't motivated enough to make it happen, to get through your to do list, to push yourself to reach your potential, to reach the goals that you've set out for yourself. How are you going to feel? You're going to feel disappointed, you're going to feel discouraged, you're going to feel like, man, I didn't do what I needed to do. You're going to feel like you've wasted your opportunity. You're going to feel like, man, I let my emotions or feeling down a few too many days in a row affect my outcome, affect my whole life. Really? That's going to motivate you to like, no, I can't let that happen. I don't want to have that feeling. I want to have that first feeling, a sense of accomplishment, that sense of pride. This exercise is real. These feelings are real. You're going to feel one of these feelings. Which one do you want? Which one do you want in the future? Which one you want to be your reality? To me, this exercise is a huge wake up call. It really gets me going, really allows me to put my feet on the ground and be like, I gotta wash my face, I gotta jump in the shower, I gotta make it happen. Because I don't want to fail. I don't want to let myself down. And that's really what happens when you're not inspired. You don't live up to what you want. You don't live up to your potential. And what this exercise does, it fast forwards yourself to the future so you can go back to the present day. It's like going back in time. Like go back to the present day and say, hey, now's your chance to make the right choice and have a great day and to accomplish what you're looking to accomplish today. So you don't have the feelings that you just lived through right now that you just felt or to have the feelings that you want to have, the good feelings, the positive ones. These hacks work, guys. I mean, I use it all the time. Listen, I'm not perfect. I'm not, you know, some person that's always positive and always motivated. Some days I'm tired, I'm burnt, like I said, and I need a little push. And these hacks push me. It recenters me, it reminds me when, why I'm doing all this and it keeps me sharp. I hope you've learned a bit from these hacks. I hope you use them when you do need to use them and you keep moving forward. Thank you so much for listening to the $100 MBA show. Tomorrow's Q and A Wednesday, so don't forget, if you have a question you want to ask, just email me@omar mba.net tomorrow. We have a question from Shelly and Shelly asks, how do I make my employees stay committed to my team? Great question. Can't wait to answer it tomorrow. I'll see you then. But before I sign off, I want to leave you with this silly. This may sound silly, or maybe this may sound silly, but it works. I would write down these four hacks, maybe a little in shorthand on a post it note, and put it on your bedside table. You don't have to look at it every day, but it's there for you when you do need it. Those mornings you just can't get going. Look at them, reflect on them. Choose one and go for it. Maybe the post it note hack is all you need. All right, I'll check you in tomorrow's episode. I'll see you then. Take care, Sam.
