Welcome to the Hundred Dollar MBA show, the business podcast that helps you help yourself to become better at business every single day with our daily 10 minute business lessons for the real world. I'm your host, your coach, your teacher Omar Zenholm. I'm also the co founder of $100 MBA, a complete business training and community online. And in today's episode you will learn five ways to recharge for under $100. In today's episode I'm going to share with you five unique ways for you to be able to recharge your batteries to take one day off, step away from the work, step away from the stress and come back totally recharged. And it's not gonna cost you an arm and a leg. Every single one of these will cost you $100 or less often. Far less. Working hard is important, but you gotta allow time to recharge. Allow time for you to disconnect for a bit so you can come back stronger after your break. Sometimes a well spent day recharging is better than a week on vacation with your notifications going off and you worrying about business. So let me give you five ways so you can recharge this weekend for less than $100. Let's get into it. Let's get down to business. I gotta tell you, last weekend I worked through the weekend. I worked on Saturday and Sunday. Come Monday and Tuesday of the following week, I was burnt out because I didn't allow myself to recharge. Sometimes you're going to have to do that on occasion, but if you do that consistently, it's a recipe for disaster. You're not allowing your brain to take a break and solve problems subconsciously. When you burn yourself to a crisp, you start to hate your work. And you don't want that to happen. You want to allow yourself to step away from it so you can go back with a new sense of energy and passion. So today I want to share with you five ways you can recharge by spending one day away from work doing something that will take your mind off of it and bring you back feeling refreshed and revived. But a few caveats before we start. Number one, when you're spending this day, it's only going to be helpful if you totally unplug from work. That means no notifications on your phone, no emails, no messages, nothing. In fact, if you can shut off your phone, power it down for that day, that would be even better. Or at the very least, open up your notification settings and shut off all your notifications and do not check anything until the next day. You may want to do this the night before you take this day off. Caveat number two. If you share your life or you share your household with other people, let them know that you're doing this. Either include them in the activities or let them know that this is what you're doing and you need that time. There's nothing worse than you having one plan to relax and then you don't communicate it and Then somebody else has a different agenda for that day for you and gives you something to do. So communicate. This day is yours. All right, let's get into the first one. The first one is called a lazy morning and an entertaining evening. With this option, you're giving yourself permission to sleep in, to have a lazy morning, to wake up a little later, to have a slow breakfast at home, maybe catch up on that book you wanted to read or watch those highlights you wanted to catch on the tv. Take it easy in the morning. Don't do any work, don't do any chores, don't do any of that kind of stuff. This is literally just chilling. Spend the day taking it easy and then go for an early dinner. Take a shower, get dressed, go for an early dinner, Take your significant other with you, have a nice long dinner. I say early, like let's say six o', clock, and spend two and a half hours or so and have some good conversation, have some great food, and then at 8:30, grab a movie. The classic dinner in a movie. But movies are great because they are immersive. They're. They take you to a different world and allow you to just transport, to completely forget about anything that's on your mind. With this in mind, choose a movie that's good for this, whether it's sci fi or fantasy or just a silly comedy. It's your day, it's your evening. Get yourself some popcorn and a drink. Enjoy. You want to make sure that you leave the day or you end the day feeling, wow, that was a lot of fun. And I never get to do this stuff. I never get to have a lazy morning and a really cool chilled evening. So number one, very simple, very low budget, not a lot of planning needed. Second one, again, you're gonna fully immerse yourself in a completely different environment to allow your brain to completely shut off. And this is what I call a day in nature. Now, it depends on what kind of nature you like. Some people love the mountains, some people love spending a day in a park. Some people love to spend the day at the beach. Point is, spend all day in nature, Pack a lunch or hey, have some lunch over there on the boardwalk at the beach, get up a bit early, get in the car and drive down. The drive itself could be relaxing and really just zen and spend a good eight hours in nature, hear the waves or, you know, look at that greenery in the park or enjoy that hike in the mountains. Nature is a great way for you to just really reflect on the beauty of nature and realize that Some of the best things in life are free. All you're spending on here is the admission to the park, if there is one, and your meals. Sometimes it's good just to have no agenda other than spending the whole day in nature. Number three, and I call this one be a kid for a day. Just be a kid for a day. When you're a kid, you are adventurous. You're silly. For a day. If you ask a kid, how would you want to spend a day? They'd probably say, I want to go to a water park. Go to a water park. Why not spend a day in the water park? That's going to get your mind off work. Go to a theme park. Go to a county fair. Go play some miniature golf. Go on some go karts. Go to a trampoline park. Just have fun. Do something that you normally wouldn't do. Again, I know this sounds like it's outrageous and different. That's what it's supposed to be like. It's supposed to be different. And it's going to get you out of your element. It's going to get you out of your routine and realize, hey, there's more to life than just doing the same old. So do those things you never got to do when you were a kid. I'm dying to go to waterpark. That's going to be on my list for my next day. All right, number four. And I call this one treat yourself. You can do this day all by yourself, where you say, hey, I got 100 bucks. I'm going to treat myself to a day of just pampering, whether that's lunch and a foot massage, where you're going to buy yourself a new outfit or a new pair of shoes, or try that new ice cream shop that just opened in town. Just treat yourself. Do something that makes you feel good. Do something that just rewards you for your hard work. And hey, it doesn't have to be expensive. Check out Groupon. Groupon has some really great deals where you can probably spend 100 bucks and do three or four things throughout your day to treat yourself. All right, number five. And number five is learn something new. Do something you've never done before. Recently, I learned how to snowboard. And I got to tell you, I was not thinking about work all day long. Why? I. I was totally focused on nailing this whole snowboarding thing. When you're learning something new, it just demands all your attention. And what happens is because your brain is so focused on that new activity, you're not stressing about work. You're not thinking about work, you're not thinking about tomorrow, or any of that kind of stuff. You're in the moment and that's a great feeling. Pick up something new, like snowboarding or skateboarding or learning how to ride a scooter, or if you're not that adventurous, no problem, pick up carpentry or start learning a musical instrument. To wrap up today's lesson, it's really important for you to take the time off to disconnect and taking the whole day can make a huge difference. Disconnecting from your phone, disconnecting from all your emails and messages, phone calls, just one day can make a huge difference. If you can make it two days, even better. I mentioned that recently I learned how to snowboard. I went on a little snowboarding trip over the weekend. I left on Friday, came back Sunday morning and I went with a group of people in our startup community here as part of our coworking space. And even though it was just two days, I felt like I was away for a week because I was totally out of work. I was just focused on learning how to snowboard. I was having a lot of fun. My brother in law came with me. It was fantastic. So even a short amount of time disconnected makes a tremendous difference. Came back, recharged, ready to go, and even though I was so sore, I was rested. All right, that wraps up today's lesson. But Today's episode's not over. It's Free Ride Friday. We got to see who won this week's Free ride. This week's winner is Katie from Taiwan. Katie says well deserved 5 stars. Thanks for sharing these episodes. It's genuinely useful. Thanks. But before I go, I want to leave you with this. We hear the word hustle, hustle, hustle all the time. And hustling is important. You got to work hard, but you gotta allow your body and your mind to rest so it can serve you. If you abuse your body and your mind, it will affect you and your business and even your personal life. So understand that you have limits and in order to get the best out of yourself, you gotta allow yourself to disconnect a bit. Thanks so much for listening. I'll check you on Monday's episode. I'll see you then. Take care.
