Hey O welcome to the Hundred Dollar RMBA show, the business podcast that gets straight to it every single day with our daily 10 minute business lessons for the real world. I'm your host, your coach, your teacher Omar Zenholm. I'm also the co founder of the Hundred Dollar mba, a complete business training and community online and today's episode is a Q and A Wednesday episode. On our Q and A Wednesday episodes, I answer a question from one of you, one of our listeners. If you have a question you want to ask, just email me over@omar00mba.net Today's question is from Ernest and Ernest asks how do I create Facebook ad images without a designer? Solid question Ernest. You can definitely do it without a high professional designer and there's a few options actually that I want to share with you in today's episode. When you're running Facebook ads, you're going to have to create several different types of images for your ads. Some are going to convert better than others and Facebook has certain rules when it comes to these images so they can get approved. So I'm going to share with you that advice as well. But I'm really going to focus on getting these images created as high quality as possible while doing it quickly. You don't have too much time to tinker around and spend days on creating these images. I'm going to show you how in today's episode. So let's get into it. Let's get down to business. So Ernest asks, how can I create Facebook ad images, those images that go with the ads, without a designer? First one, I promise, if you can afford somebody to create your images for you, a freelance designer, somebody that's on upwork, or somebody that'll just do it per task or per design or per ad, that's going to be the fastest and easiest way to do it. You're going to supply them with some information about what you're trying to advertise and they'll take care of the rest. Outsourcing it is definitely the best way to do it. And you don't have to pay a lot and you don't have to hire a full time designer. For less than $50, you can get a whole handful of images you can use for ads. And I would ask them to deliver the images in PSD and Sketch as well. Now what does that mean? Well, PSD is basically a Photoshop file. And Sketch is another software that's like Photoshop but simpler, easier and cheaper. Now the reason why you want the files is you may want to change the copy the text that's on the actual ads or I should say the images. And that way you don't have to rehire the person over and over again every time you need a tweak. So for $50, be $100 at max that a freelance designer can do it for you and then you can change them over and over. That's one option. It's probably the most efficient, fastest, and probably the one that's going to give you most bang for your buck. The second option is learning how to do this on Photoshop or through Sketch. Sketch is a new type of graphic design software that has kind of surfaced in the last few years. And I use Sketch nowadays. I used to be a big Photoshop guy, but now I use Sketch. Absolutely love it. It's $100 a year for its actual software license. You don't have to pay every year, but you do if you want updates and support. Photoshop, on the other hand, is going to be a little bit more pricey. You're gonna pay monthly on Adobe's cloud account or cloud services, what they call it now. But you also got to learn how to use these pieces of software so you can design things from scratch. And this could take some time. I do think it's actually a good investment. There's so many things that you can create for yourself in the future. I learned Photoshop really early on in my career as a professional, even before I was an entrepreneur. It was one of the best things I did and actually helped me learn Sketch really easily. If you are interested in creating your images for your Facebook ads from scratch, then I definitely would check out some tutorials on how to use Photoshop or Sketch. If you don't know either of them, I would go with Sketch. It's easier to use, the UI is much easier and again it's cheaper. But in my estimation it's just as powerful. But you can pick up courses on how to learn these pieces of software on YouTube for free. Or you can go to Skillshare or you can go to lynda.com or Udemy of course. Tons of courses out there. Now there is a third option when it comes to creating your own Facebook ad images. Now this is probably the most cheapest and most time efficient option and that's using Canva. Canva. Com Canva is a software that allows you to create great graphics. It's all online. They have a free option and they also have a pro option that you can pay on a monthly basis, but you can do a lot with just the free. And in fact in Canva they have Facebook ad images as a template. So you can use that template to create your own images and you can save them into your account and download them. Really super simple. Now if you want to use really good looking images and you don't want to buy the images through Canva, you can always use unsplash.com unsplash has royalty free images that you can use for free. You can download those images and then upload them to Canva so you can use them for your Facebook ad images. Canva is super simple to use and Nicole, my business partner, she absolutely loves Canva. She's a die hard fan. It's dead easy and it's a good place to start if you want to not spend any money and you just need to get an ad out. You can use one of their templates, change the copy, change the colors and go for it. Now it's important to understand that when you're creating your Facebook ad image. Facebook has a hard and fast rule when it comes to these images. You cannot have more than 20% of the area of the image be text. So basically you can't write all over the image. Only 20% of the image could be text based. So if you want to put a headline or a sub headline. You got to make sure that it's not taking over the whole image. You need to save all the copy and the text that you want to really articulate in the actual ad copy. And that's where, you know, Facebook ads come in. And this is where you would fill in that information in the description of the ad. But if you submit a ad with an image that has more than 20% text, there's a strong likelihood that you're going to get rejected. Your ad is going to get rejected and you're not going to be able to run that ad. And Facebook will tell you there's too much text on this image. You're going to have to change that image, go back and forth. So it's better to stay safe and don't write too much text on your images. A simple headline is fine.

A few pieces of advice as I close off today's lesson. I should actually call these warnings and warning number one is don't tinker. You're gonna want to tinker with these images and you want to perfect them and you want to make it look better and all that kind of stuff. The best way to know if your ad images are going to convert is to actually test them. So create your images. Don't spend too much time on it. I would recommend not spending more than an hour creating your images for Facebook. I would say, you know, in an hour you can create four to five different images so you can use for your ads. And these are like four or five variants of the image, maybe different colors, different layouts, different images that you move around and then just put them up there on your Facebook ads, test them out. If they don't work out, change, tweak, edit those images, create different versions. It's very easy to get caught up and spend all day or even more on, you know, trying to perfect these images. I highly recommend you use a software called adespresso. This is gonna allow you split test all your images, tell you which images work. It's a great little software that helps you run efficient and high converting Facebook ads. They're not a sponsor of the show or anything like that. We use them, absolutely love them. So I wanna recommend them to you. It allows you to kinda see what works and what doesn't. And what you do is you kind of upload a whole bunch of different ad images and it will choose which ones are converting best and focus on those. And the ones that are not, you can just forget about those for future ads and you can try to improve upon the ones that do. So don't tinker, put it out there and test it and use adspresso so you can know which images are doing well. It will ab test them for you automatically. Now you also need to look up in Facebook their site and you know, the Facebook ad manager. What is the actual ad image size that is required? There's a requirement. You can't just do any size because it has to fit in the ad spot and there's a certain size that you need to stick to and then they'll adjust it for, you know, Instagram ads or you know, side ads, but you got to stick to that size and the size has changed over the years. So make sure you are choosing the most up to date size. Now the beauty is if you're using a tool like Canva, then they already have that up to date and you know exactly the size. If you're creating it from scratch with Sketch or you know, Photoshop, you're going to need to know that size. So you know a canvas size you should start with. Well, there you have it. That's everything you need to know when it comes to this question. Ernest, thank you so much for asking the question. If you have a question you want to ask on the show, please email me at omar100mba.net we'll definitely add it to our list and make sure we answer it right here on a Q and A Wednesday episode. It could be you. All you gotta do is leave us a rating and review. All right, that wraps up today's lesson. Thank you so much for listening. Before I go, I want to leave you with this. There is another option I didn't talk about, but there are people that hire Facebook ad managers, people that actually take care of all their ads. They run their ads for them. They create the images. They do everything. They just run all your campaigns for you. And they vary. And you can find them via Google search or through upwork or Freelancer. Some people charge, you know, a flat fee. Some people charge, you know, a flat fee plus a percentage of how much ad spend, how much money you spend on ads. And it could start from anything like $2,000 a month as a retainer to up to maybe 10 grand a month. So that is an option, but it's really an expensive option if you're just starting out. So I don't recommend going with this option until you feel comfortable running a few ads yourself and maybe handing that over when you have the budget for you. But I don't recommend this option if you're just starting out. It's quite expensive, you're starting out, so I would just get started yourself with something like adespresso. And then as your business grows and you have the budget for this, then you can hire out for it. I hope that helps and hope to see you in tomorrow's episode. I'll see you then. Take care.
