Welcome to the $100 MBA show. Because life is too short to run a business you don't love. That's why we deliver daily 10 minute business lessons for the real world. I'm your host, your coach, your teacher Omar Zenholm. I'm also the co founder of the Hundred Dollar mba, a complete business training and community online. And in today's episode, you will learn how to be okay with where you are in business. One of the things I notice early on as an entrepreneur is at the start, when you're building your business, it's exciting, it's fun, it's all new, and it's a hell of a ride. But soon, a few months in, you start to realize, man, you have a lot of work to do, and you have a whole lot more to grow and to improve. You start to realize, man, I'm not doing things the right way. I should be doing things this way or that way. You start to realize how much you don't know and how much you're not doing so well. This can be incredibly demotivating. And actually, a lot of entrepreneurs quit because of this because it's just such a blow to their ego. Hey, let's be honest here. It's not easy to be told you stink. You stink at what you do. And in business, it's so grounded in reality that you soon realize, man, I'm a noob. I still don't know how to do certain things. There's so many people that are better at me at this. They're doing so much better financially. They're doing so much better with their growth. They're doing so much better with the number of customers they have over social media. They're getting mentions in publications. And you start to understand that, man, there are levels to entrepreneurship and I'm still on level zero. And it's really important. It's critical for you to be okay with that. Why? Because you have to accept where you are. You have to understand, hey, you don't know it all. You don't get everything perfect all the time. And you will make mistakes. And you got to be content with it so you can keep moving forward. But how? It's easier said than done. And this is applicable no matter where you are, even if you're not getting started. Let's say you've been doing business for 10 years. You might be on level 90, but the levels are infinite. There's still people way above you. So in today's episode, I'm going to give you some practical strategies to understand. You have to be okay where you are to be positive, to keep moving forward. And don't let that feeling stop you from achieving what you want. This one's an important one. So let's get into it. Let's get down to business. In 2001 through 2003, it was my first couple years in building my own businesses on the side and around that time, I had some momentum. I was excited about building my businesses. And I thought, hey, I want to start blogging. I want to start writing a blog and get better at communication. And I also knew it was good for SEO. And the funny thing is that my first thought was, hey, I want to learn how to blog. So I started reading other great blogs. I started taking some courses from those bloggers. And through that process, I started to realize, man, I know nothing about blogging. I have a lot to learn. I'm nowhere near where I need to be. And all those feelings cause you to feel overwhelmed, feel, you know, insufficient. And it seems like you see this huge mountain in front of you, and it's like, will I ever be able to get to the top? In those moments, it's so easy to quit. It's so easy to say, you know what? This is too hard. I'm just going to stick to what I know, or, you know, just go back to what I was doing before and never grow and never improve. But something inside of me told me, no, give this a try. Take it day by day and see if you can continue to improve yourself. I'm so glad I did. This story reminds me of a great piece of advice that I heard from Tim Ferriss, who's got a tremendous blog, a tremendous audience, and millions of subscribers. He has a very successful podcast. He has four New York Times best sellers. This guy is totally, totally crushing it, Right? Somebody wrote in and asked him a question. He said, hey, it's easy for you to give advice and talk about what to do. You have millions of subscribers. I don't have anybody. I'm just getting started with blogging. And he gave the perfect answer. He said, all of us, including myself, when we started, we started with zero subscribers. We didn't have any subscribers on our list. We had zero blog posts. Everybody starts at zero. And it's so inspiring to hear that because it means, hey, I'm starting at zero. Tim Ferriss started at zero. Maybe I can have some of his success. I'm on the same path he's on. I'm the same starting point. And it's not some hogwash. It's real reality, and it's real advice. You got to start somewhere, and we all start at the bottom. And that's how you grow. Often entrepreneurs beat up on themselves because they think, hey, I'm not good enough. I'm nowhere near as good as that person or that person. I'm not growing fast enough. My business is not growing fast enough. And we're just never content with where we are. Even if we look back and we say, wow, my personal achievements have increased. My business has grown. I've done better as an entrepreneur. But no matter how much you've grown, you still beat up on yourself and say, I'm not good enough.
You.
You just gotta be okay. You have to be okay with where you are right now, no matter where that is. Enjoy the process. Life's too short to not enjoy the process of growing, of learning, of developing yourself as an entrepreneur. I remember I was on a phone call with my father the other day, and he asked me how I was doing. I said, I'm so busy, you know, work the business. You know, I'm not sleeping much, but, you know, that's how it is. And he just gave me some really good advice. He just said, hey, man, this is the time when you do this. You have the privilege of working hard. You have the privilege of having the energy and the time to put into your business and grow and have that satisfaction. I wish I was young like you. I don't have the time and the energy to do that anymore. You know, my dad's retired. His working days are over. But he's looking back at me and saying, hey, man, they've got nothing to complain about. You're in the heyday right now, man. Enjoy those sleepless nights. Those are the best of your days. You're going to wish you had that situation when you're older. You're going to wish that you could hustle it out and continue to learn and grow and improve. So enjoy the struggle, enjoy the journey. Be okay with where you are. And I often say this, and it's so important. It's a piece of advice that I get from a buddy of mine named Mario Brown. He's an entrepreneur as well, and he says we often look forward and look towards our goals, but we forget to stop and look backwards and look at, hey, what have I achieved? And even if you are just getting started, the decision of just getting started is. Is an achievement of saying, hey, I'm now an entrepreneur. I'm now working on this business. That leap is a step forward, A step forward that you did not take before. And you should applaud that. You're starting your blog and only have one blog post. That's one more blog post than you had before. Only have five. That's five more. And here's a piece of advice I want you to take from me, and it's a gift. Accept the fact you're never going to meet your own expectations. Accept the fact you'll never meet your own expectations. I repeat that because it's so important. We all have our own expectations of ourselves. We think we need to be at a certain level, be a certain person, be like this person or that person. And often those expectations are just never going to be met.
Why?
Because we keep moving the goalpost. Who we want to be today is going to be different from tomorrow. In fact, who you are today is probably what you only hoped for, you wished for five years ago, ten years ago. But you never look at that. You always have different expectations, higher expectations. So just accept the fact that, hey, you're always going to be reaching, you're always going to be trying, and that's okay. Just don't be dissatisfied with that. Be content with where you are and be excited for the journey.

Of the things about entrepreneurship I love is that you always are faced with new challenges. It's never boring. It's super exciting every day. Back when I was a teacher, my job was super boring. It was the same thing day in and day out, year in, year out. I would have the same students every year, except they were in different bodies. Same politics, same gossip, same thing. And it was so boring it almost drived me crazy. As an entrepreneur, there's new challenges. There's new things you're working on every day, new habits you're forming, new routines. It's exciting. And that is where you are today, not just your level of business not just your revenue, not just how you compare with other entrepreneurs or other people in your niche. You are in the arena. You're having the time of your life. Here. Realize that pretty much 95% of the world's population would envy you. Would do anything to be in your position where you get to have the freedom and the ability to build your own business and be your own boss and pursue your dreams. For many people around the world, that's just simply not an option. So be okay with that. Thank you so much for listening to today's episode. I hope it's helped you. I hope it wraps up your week on a good note. But today's episode's not over because it's Free Ride Friday. I got to give away a lifetime membership to one of our programs. A lot of people say business is a mental game. I really believe it's an emotional game. Is having control over your emotions, the feelings that you actually thrust upon yourself. Being able to control your mood and move past challenges and move forward despite the way you feel. If you have control over the way you feel, you'll have control over what you do has an incredible impact on our results as entrepreneurs. Thank you so much for listening. I'll check you on Monday's episode. I'll see you then. Take care. Of.
