Hey O. Welcome to the hunt. The $100 RBA show. It's where the pros go for business knowledge on the regular every single day with our daily 10 minute business lessons for the real world. I'm your host, your coach, your teacher Omar Zenholm. I'm also the co founder of the Hundred Dollar mba, a complete business training and community online. And in today's lesson you will learn five tools to shoot video on a budget. You know video marketing works. YouTube has exploded. Facebook prefers video. Same goes with Instagram. Invideo makes a great blog post, but you've been holding back because you feel like you don't have the right equipment. So in today's lesson, I'm gonna give you five simple tools. You can set up your own DIY video shoot, your own video studio, really. And you're not gonna sacrifice quality and it's gonna look fantastic. In fact, I'm gonna give you what I'm gonna be doing from now on. After spending money and time on really expensive equipment that's not really necessary. Gonna tell you what to spend your money on, how much it's gonna cost, and how easy it's gonna be to set up. Let's make it happen. Let's get into it. Let's get down to business. Shooting video is one of those things that we always put off because, hey, it's such a pain to set up or get everything right, or have the technology or have the tools. Writing a blog post is far, far easier. And in some ways, the barrier of entry is so much lower. But in today's lesson, we're gonna make it even easier for you to set up your own video shoot so you can be able to shoot video anytime quickly and efficiently. So let's start with tool number one, and that's you don't need a fancy camera, you just do not need a DSLR anymore. Your first tool is actually your smartphone. If you have a smartphone that's, you know, two, three years old, you're totally fine. Most smartphones that are three years or younger will even shoot up to 4K. My iPhone shoots up to 4K at 60 frames per second. That's pretty much the best any DSLR can shoot. Yes, with DSLR you can change lenses and you can do all that bokeh effect and all that kind of stuff. But right now we're trying to just get things done. We're trying to shoot a high quality video as easily as possible. So we have videos. Right. If you keep dwelling on, you know, making it perfect, we're never gonna get it done. So your smartphone is more than enough. Most of us don't even use half the power that our phone can do. Most of our smartphones have such powerful video cameras with high quality software to clean things out for you. So when you do edit, you're saving time and money. Tool number one, the smartphone you already have. Tool number two, a tripod. Now, you don't need to get a fancy tripod. You can get what's called a gorillapod, which is basically a tripod that its legs are flexible, so you can kind of clamp it to anywhere. You can get a very simple tripod, even one that stands on the floor for 30 or $40 on Amazon. Same thing goes with a gorillapod. And what you're doing here is just stabilizing the camera. You can put the camera on a stack of books, you could put the camera on a desk, you could put a camera on a chair. The point here is I just wanna make sure the camera is steady and stable. No one's holding the camera. If you have this, you can just hit record and get behind that camera and start shooting your video. Of course, you can edit out all that transition at the start, at the end, when you're starting the video and when you're ending the video. So, and make sure, you pause before you start talking. You know, you face up the camera and you pause to allow that to happen. And then you start, you know, going into your script or going into your video content. So tripod is essential. It's going to take your camera phone to the next level. Tool number three, a long charging cable. You don't want to worry about your phone dying out on you when you're doing a shoot. Usually if you're doing videos, you're batching, you're doing a few videos in a row. And when you use your camera, especially your video camera on your smartphone, it's gonna take a lot of juice. So you wanna make sure that your phone is doing totally fine on juice and that you actually plug it into a power source, whether it's your laptop or whether it's into the wall unit, right into the actual outlet. And you can get a longer extension to whatever you use to charge your phone, whether it's a lightning cable with a iPhone or USB C cable, whatever it is, whatever cable you use to plug into a charger or USB port so you can plug it in so it's getting power. This is gonna allow you to just kind of relax and be headache free. And you can take as many takes as you like with your, your camera phone. This is actually better than having a DSLR because DSLRs run on batteries that need to be recharged and you can run out of battery. Another option, if you have a place to place this is, is a power bank. If you don't want to go out and get a longer charging cable and you have a power bank laying around that will give you extra juice for your phone. You can plug in the power bank and that way your phone has got that extra battery power. All right, tool number four is a background. You want a solid background as much as possible. So this could be a plain wall in a spare bedroom, in your office, in the conference room. Now you can make that plain wall look a little bit better with a bit of paper. You go to a craft store and you get a wide sheet of paper, something that's maybe a couple yards or maybe even longer, three or four yards, and you just basically tape that paper to the actual wall and it becomes where you stand in front of. We do this in our DIY video shoot area and we use some blue paper. And blue is the branding color for webinar ninja, so you can think about your own branding colors. This paper's not going to cost much, which is going to add a whole lot more production value to your videos and for the viewer. It's going to look like you're in a video studio. All right, tool number five, and that's audio. An external mic. You're going to need a way to record audio in a clean way. The audio that you're going to be picking up from your iPhone or from your smartphone is just going to be too muffled. It's going to be too far away from the actual camera and the actual mic. So ideally, you want to get some sort of a boom mic or a lapel mic, and this mic has to be plugged into some sort of audio recorder. Now, trust me, this is probably going to be one of your biggest investments, but it's going to be so worth it because your audio is going to be clean. It's going to sound amazing. We really like Sennheiser's boom mic. Basically, what you do is you set it up on a boom arm, and you set it up high enough so it's outside the frame of the camera, so the mic doesn't show up in the shot, but it's pointing towards you. If you want to hear the quality of this mic, just check out any of our videos over@webinarnesia.com's blog. That's webinarnasia.com blog. And all those videos are shot with that mic. Now, the mic and the stand is going to cost you some money, a few hundred dollars. But there are some alternatives. You can get an audio recorder, just a simple auto recorder, digital audio recorder on Amazon for like, 30 bucks and have a lapel mic that you can plug into as an input and clip the lapel mic to your shirt. That way the mic is really close to you and the audio is going to sound a whole lot better. This is a cheaper option. For $50 or less, it's going to sound almost as good as a Sennheiser boom mic. And it's going to sound a whole lot better than not having any mic at all.

Alright for my bonus Tool to shoot amazing video for your business Is lighting Great lighting can make a world of a difference. Getting a simple three point lighting kit from Amazon is going to cost you less than $100 and it's going to make a world of a difference. Even if you just get one LED light that's bright enough for you to kind of shoot in one direction or even up in the ceiling and reflect on your face, it's going to make a world of a difference. When you shoot video with your smartphone, you'll notice it'll say low light and it's sort of like a warning showing you hey, the quality of this video is not going to be so great because the light is so low. So having great lighting for your video is really, really gonna increase the quality and make it look amazing. And by simply placing a three point lighting kit in front of you when you shoot, it's gonna make a world of a difference. Now my last piece of advice is if you could set up this video studio somewhere that you don't have to break down, a spare room, a corner of your office, a den, whatever it is, this is ideal. This is the ideal situation where you can just jump in, put your phone on the tripod and hit record. No setup. This is where you're going to save all the time. The setup is what makes people cringe and want to not shoot video. But if you have the setup all set up in one area in one corner of a room, it's there for you when you're ready to go. That's your best solution. Well, there you have it guys. Those are my five tools plus a bonus. Number one the smartphone you already have. Number two a tripod. Number three a longer charging cord or or a power bank if you want to use it. Number four, some sort of background, some paper on your wall is going to make it look great. Use your branding colors with the paper. Number five some way to capture audio clearly, either through a boom mic, having the mic outside the frame, or using a lapel mic with a audio recorder. And lastly, the bonus three point lighting. Great lighting is going to make a world of a difference. Thank you so much for listening to the $100 NBA show. Just a quick reminder, every Wednesday we do Q and A Wednesday, that's tomorrow where we answer your questions that you have. If you have a question you want to ask, just email me over at omar100mba.net and we'll put you in the queue to make sure we answer your question right here on the show. Tomorrow we have a question from Josh asking what do you do when you have all the ideas but you need engineers to get started? I'll be answering that in tomorrow's episode, so tune in for that. Alright, before I go, I want to leave you with this. Sometimes we make things bigger in our head than they need to be. We think we need to have a huge production to shoot video. No, we can do this on a budget. We could do this with simple tools and we can get started. And then of course we can improve our videos as we go along. At the end of the day, if your content is blockbuster, people will forgive a less than Hollywood quality video. But the point of today's lesson is to set something up for you so you can do it consistently. Consistency is key. All right, thank you so much for listening. I'll check you in tomorrow's episode. I'll see you then. Take care.
