MBA1315 Q&A Wednesday: I don’t enjoy writing. Can I hire out a writer for my blog?
2 Feb 2026 · 9 min
Omar Zenhom says hiring a writer for your blog is fine, but recommends trying it yourself first to build communication skills. He suggests committing to 10 posts of 500-1,000 words, then vetting writers with sample posts and one-page brand guidelines if you decide to outsource.

Hey, welcome to the $100 RBA show business goodness every day with our daily 10 minute business lessons for the real world. I'm your host, your coach, your teacher Omar Zenholm. I'm also the co founder of the $100 MBA, a complete business Training and community online and Today's episode is a Q and A Wednesday episode. On our Q and A Wednesday episodes I answer a question from one of you, one of our listeners. If you have a question you want to ask, just email me over at omar@100mba.net Today's question is from George and George asks, I don't enjoy writing. Can I hire out a writer for my blog? Awesome question George. George also elaborates that he believes in blogging. He thinks SEO is a great long term strategy, but just doesn't enjoy the process of writing if you're in George's shoes. If you are feeling what George is putting down, then today's Q and A Wednesday is for you. I'm going to ask George's question, give you the examples of how you can run a blog by hiring out a writer and why. I still recommend you do the writing anyway, but you have some options. I will explain what I mean in today's episode. I feel like I am in a good position to answer this question because I didn't enjoy writing for a very long time. It's something I really enjoy now, something that I actually look forward to whenever I have to write a blog post or a script for a video or even a well crafted email. But sometimes you need some traction and you need some help. And I'll talk about how you can get some help. Get a writer on your side to help you out. Can't wait to answer this one today. So let's get into it. Let's get down to business. All right George, let's get into answering your question on Q and A Wednesday. You don't enjoy Writing. But you see the power of blogging and SEO and want to hire a writer to write your blog. Now, my answer to your question is you don't have to do one or the other. You can do both, actually, and actually encourage you to do both. So you can get somebody to write for your blog as a writer and the actual writer can be one of the authors on the blog posts if you want, or they can ghostwrite for you. That's up to you. But I also encourage you to try to flex that muscle, give it a shot. If you have not written blog posts before, just commit to writing. Let's say 10 blog posts. That's not a huge commitment. Blog post can be between 500 and 1000 words and really you can get that done in a matter of 90 days easily. Now, the reason why I'm encouraging you to do that is because I believe that writing allows you to improve your communication skills tremendously. It's helped me a lot, helped me be able to form my ideas and evaluate those ideas as I write them. Sometimes when you write, you read back what you wrote down and you question, hey, do I really believe in that? Is that something that I really think or is that just something I'm writing? Because I think it sounds smart. I know this sounds kind of deep and self helpy, but it's true. Writing really allows you to hone in your ideas and the better you write, the better you communicate. And writing is a big part of communication these days, especially with technology and social media and texting and all that kind of stuff. Somebody who's well written really stands out and, and it's a huge advantage. It is a great muscle to build. But you may not want to be reliant on your writing right now, so you can hire. We have a writer on our team, Conor o'. Grady, amazing writer. He writes many of our newsletters. He writes all the newsletters for the $100 MBA. He writes blog posts. He writes our show notes for the podcast. He's fantastic. He's a fantastic writer. He's witty, he's funny. He knows the voice of the brand. He knows what we're all about. He's a part of the team. He is a, a part of the $100 MBA in a big way. And we're so happy we made that hire because we need Connor to be the constant person to provide the content. If I jump in and write a blog post or write a newsletter or write an email to customers or to anybody, that's an added bonus. And it allows me to flex that muscle. So I want to tell you, yes, feel free to hire somebody and they can run your blog and they can write articles for you and they can help you build that SEO machine. But don't take your hands off the wheel completely. I encourage you to work on that craft. Give it a good go, write 10 posts. If you still hate it just as much as when you started, then of course you can focus on something else. You don't have to do something you don't enjoy. But I just want to challenge you to do that because sometimes it's just uncomfortable, unenjoyable at the start. But once you start getting better and feeling better about writing and the routine of writing, you'll see the benefits. You'll see the internal benefits you're going to get for yourself. So you might be asking, hey, Omar, how did you find Connor? How did you know he was a good fit for you and be able to write for your blog and in the voice of the business? Well, actually, Connor was a recommendation from a mutual friend of ours that understands the business, understands our brand. I saw some of Connor's writing before we hired him, some of his blog posts, some sample work, and I was like, wow, I really like this guy's style. I like his humor, he's informative, yet he doesn't take himself too seriously in the way he crafts his messages. So that's something to look forward to. You have to like the person's writing. Going to be writing for your blog, you have to feel like, hey, I resonate with it. This person's on brand aligned with the way you communicate with your customers, the way you want to appear in front of your customers and all that stuff. Of course, if it's not a perfect match, it's totally okay. Writers can fine tune and change certain things. Some people think writers are really precious. Not true. Most writers are very flexible. And you know, as a pure example, if you don't, you know, like to use colorful language or curse or anything like that, then they can refrain from doing that. They'll find a way to write the article without doing it. So find somebody who you enjoy that you find is a good fit for you and your business. One thing I recommend that we did that really is a good idea when you're vetting your writers is to get them to do some sample blog posts. You know, just contract them for a post or two. You don't have to hire them full time from the get go, see how it goes, see how your audience resonates with the writing, do a couple more, do a couple more. And then you can think about something a little bit more long term. Where once you feel comfortable with the relationship and the writing, it also helps to have some sort of guidelines or a guide you can provide. Anybody who writes for your blog. Like the tone, like your goal with every blog post, what you try to convey, what's the point of your brand, what you're trying to do with your blog, whether it's to educate or to promote or to train or whatever it is. If you like to use humor, say we're humorous. If you like to use images or videos or GIFs or things like that, you got to make sure that you have some sort of guideline. A one pager just says, hey, when we created the blog, this is our intention. This is what we're trying to accomplish. This is the type of writing we're looking for. That way, if somebody ever says, hey, I want a guest post on your blog, you can say, hey, here's our guidelines. This is what we ask you to abide by. Go ahead and submit a post for us to review with these in mind. This makes your life a lot easier and it frames the mind of the writer before they start writing. One more thing I want to say is writing is one option, but you can also do videos on your blog and you can get a writer to transcribe and write a blog post about the video below the video. So if you like to do videos, that's something that you can do. If you don't like writing, videos is another option. You could do a podcast is another option. But podcasting is not a huge SEO game. Not until voice is something that's big on voice devices. But for right now, in terms of search engine monetization on Google, you know text and video does very well. So video is another option for you.

I love the fact he understands that, hey, can't do everything, can't be an expert at everything, let's find somebody who can do it for me. And that's totally cool.
